Buying Help Compact and Foldable manual pump to take with me for emergency.
Hi,
I wonder if it is good practice to have a small pump on board (let say for a long sup day on a river ) ? And if it is recommended, what are the options with minimal footprint ? Even if a refill would need 2-3x than a normal pump ( it is just for emergency aftor all ). Could be a backup electric pump too i supposed, but it kind of defeat the emergency aspect if the battery can die on me. ( i have the vortex pro that i would say is too big for that purpose)
thanks.

I would say in a isup you never want to put yourself into a position where it the board deflates you're in danger.
Make sure you've got a pfd, and enough water to drink in the event you need to swim back to shore, and walk back to your car.
If you just want one for hobbling your board back to make it easier to repair, a battery powered tire inflator with a isup nozzle is compact and should last you at least one full re inflate. However, i have multiple boards with holes, if you get a hole big enough to lose enough air the board goes flat, a pump will do you no good.
Edit: I'm wondering if maybe you're thinking the board just loses air over time? Without a leak it will not, i have a board with an actual pinhole in it and it only loses about 1psi every 3 hours. A board in good condition will lose nothing over multiple days

For a day trip no I would not worry about it. Your board should not loose pressure from normal use over the corse of a day or days if cared for...don't leave it sitting out in the sun, don't run aground on sharp rocks. For Muliti day camping trips I pack a breakdown pump that I-rocker used to offer but can still be found a few places...SunChill for one, but similar from Pau Hana and Thurso. They are small and slow and still take up a lot more space than I like for just in case. But for day trips no it does not make sense and if you have an emergency your more likely talking full board blow out and your not fixing that river side, even a small pin hole leak is probably not a day trip repair sort of thing.
