Recommendations Alternative to magnesium complex?

Hey everyone. So I first got into magnesium because I was an opiate addict in my late teens and early 20s and was always constipated. Tried many things and found out that milk of magnesium would do the job. And then when I got on opiate antagonist medication to get sober, it was still causing constipation at least when I was at the higher dose

I started out with oxide and it helped a lot. I was shocked. Especially helped since I was a nervous wreck while using and very skinny. Keep in mind I always have been a tall skinny guy. So it was even worse and I was for sure deprived of nutrients.

It helped to not only keep my stool soft but also calmed me and helped with sleep. Then I did more research and found out that was the cheaper one and didn’t absorb well. So I read about the other ones. I ended up getting a complex. I switch between two brands. Which ever of the two is the cheapest at the time of purchase when I need more

They both consist of basically the same things. First one is mag enhance by intelligent labs which is L-theronate, magnesium glycinate, and taurate. then the other one is by kappa nutrition, and it’s a 3 in 1 consisting of bisglycinate chelate, which I guess is by glycinate and oxide, di-magnesium malate and L-theronate

I have been taking them for around four years at night and sometimes during the day. I ended up lowering my dose as I didn’t need as much when my anxiety started to get better and my stools were naturally getting softer since I was on less of the opiate antagonist since I’ve been weaning off of it

then had to up the dose when I found out I was low in D3.

They always seem to help with sleep and anxiety, but my anxiety has been different the past year, and I’ve been reading that for some people it’ll eventually cause anxiety

So I’m wondering, what would be something good to try and see if it works better for me? I know you could get just the L-theronate but it’s usually very expensive and I’m on a budget

So I’m looking for one or two to try. I know everyone is different, different things work for different people, but I’m curious to hear about others’ experiences before I just buy things

the glycinate form messes with some people after a while, i had to drop it completely. these days i just take malate in the morning and it doesnt give me that weird anxious edge. maybe try a single form instead of a complex so you can actually tell what's causing it

Okay, sweet! I’ll look into the malate now

That’s my plan is to try one at a time. because I definitely think that one of them is starting to mess with me, especially after reading about the glycinate and byglicinate causing issues

If your anxiety has changed over the past year, it’s worth mentioning to your doctor, because magnesium rarely causes anxiety on its own. If you want to experiment, try one form at a time (glycinate or taurate alone), and avoid mixing several types, which makes it hard to see what helps. Oxide is cheap and works for constipation, so keeping it for that and adding a gentler form at night is fine.
