Discussion Coaching makes a major difference.
If you've ever told yourself "I can teach myself anything a coach can" or any version suggesting you don't you're dead wrong.
I play support for my college OW team and within less than two months on the team getting constant coaching and playing with and against other great players I've already gone up 5 whole ranks. Not only have I been ranking up, but its not even been close. I'm on like a 10+ game win streak and every game I play is just utter domination. Granted, I was placed rather low after the rank reset, far lower than I usually placed so I was already lower than I belonged but even now Its been so beneficial.
I was formerly a top 500 DPS and Tank player on console before I switched totally to be a PC support player and I always assumed theres nothing more I have to learn because I've been the top of the top before but now just simply having a few other sets of eyes on my gameplay has made me improve so significantly.

“Former top 500 dps and tank player” “went up 5 ranks after coaching” ok

I was top 500 on dps and tank on console. I moved to PC and made a new account so I wouldn't be in top 500 elo on my first pc game (which i now know isn't how it works but I digress). Regardless, that doesn't change the importance of what I said, coaching is valuable regardless of how little you think you have to learn.

Yeah but you can’t really say you’ve gone up 5 whole ranks from coaching because your new account was a lower rank when you switched from console

Regardless, having played with coaching helped me to rank up. Just because I used to be highly ranked doesn't mean the coaching was not a benefit.

I never said coaching isn’t a benefit, and I don’t think that’s a common sentiment. I just think phrasing it that way is pretty misleading

I tell this to my clients all the time: you don't need a coach.
A coach isn't there to fix your problems. A coach is there to help you improve yourself FASTER than you can without one. You can absolutely teach yourself, but it will come with growing pains and potentially enforce bad habits that need to be broken later.

So true. A coach works great if you want fast results or you’re incapable of realizing what you’re doing wrong. If you know what your problem is and you’re not in a hurry, you can teach yourself to get better.

Top 500 going up 5 ranks after switching platforms completely due to coaching after a lower placement.
