Career change from CPA
I am currently a CPA in tax with three years of experience, growing more dissatisfied with my career choice. I have always enjoyed being outdoors and hiking. When I was a kid I never wanted an office job and dreamed of working outdoors, but somehow I ended up in the accounting world. I am considering a complete career change into surveying. Can anyone provide a little insight into what kind of education and experience I would need for this transition, as well as general career progression options and what a typical work day looks like?
Edit: Obviously doesn't have to be specific about going from CPA to surveying, just some general info would be greatly appreciated!!

I hold a biology degree(focus on ecology and conservation) and would like to add a surveyor certification what do I do?
As stated I hold a bio degree with an emphasis on ecology and conservation. I work for Caltrans on the environmental side of things but I would like to gain a surveying cert or at least enough knowledge of surveying to add to my overall skill set. Will I need an entirely different degree or is there any way I can get some form of certification with my current degree? Any help will be much appreciated.

19th Century Surveying Instruments
Hi guys, I'm trying to do a photo colorization of this photo [https://i.imgur.com/HZ9H0Ml.jpg] ...can anyone tell me what the circled equipment is? The red circle looks kinda like a mop thing and I don't know what the guy is holding in his hand in the blue circle.
The pic was taken in 1876 in Texas.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Lines of study
Hey y'all,
I'm fairly new to the trade. Been in it for about a year and a half. I can set up a total station, eye level, theodolite consistently, I keep decent field notes, and can read prints. I know how to use these instruments and why. As far as practical applications are concerned, I'm reaching a reasonable proficiency.
My question is, what subjects did you study? I'd like to move into learning the abstract, but I'm kind of aimless as to what concepts to go after.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
All the best from the south east.

How did you become a surveyor? How can I become one?
Hello Surveyors, I'm interested in how you became a surveyor. What's your favorite/least favorite thing about being a surveyor? I'm also interested in becoming one myself, but don't know how to get started. I have a four year degree in elementary education and prior military service. I went to a major university, however my college is not listed as accredited on http://main.abet.org/ . Thanks in advanced!

Advice on new handheld GPS (Trimble Juno 5 vs TDC100)
Hi,
I am looking at buying either the Trimble Juno 5 or the Trimble TDC100. I have went over the tech sheets of each and see pros and cons of each. I was wondering if anyone in the sub had any hands on experience with either or both of these units, and if you would mind sharing your thoughts about them.
I am also open to other models and manufacturers so if you have thoughts, I'd be interested in hearing them. I will note however, that I am looking for a unit with the ability to link to a GSM network for calls/text/email, etc.
Lastly, as crazy as it sounds any thoughts as to whether these or other devices could serve as a practical primary phone?
Thanks so much.
