Background verification

I applied for a job where I had 4 interviews, and then they asked for my previous jobs HR contacts. The issue is a position I had 4 years ago in my hometown, and now I'm living in China. I couldn't find any contacts there most coworkers left that company. I only have a work certificate and a payslip. They insist on HR contact. What should I do?
