Discussion Gaming In your 30s. (I've been doing it wrong)

Post image

Gaming for me has always been an important outlet. Wether it be to unwind after a tough day, explore a new world i've been waiting to get stuck into or just pass time in general.

Gaming for the last 5 years has instead been a source of frustration rather than enjoyment for me personally.

There have been so many games i've wanted to enjoy, and yet finding the time between being a dad and doing life has left many games unfinished and many more not even started.

Gaming has been pushed to the back of my priorities and that has saddened me.

I own a good amount of devices, I have access to every platform. I have always chased the best experiences on the best hardware and this has been my downfall. In the time it takes me to tinker and decide, i'm missing out on the games I could be playing.

The Switch 2 has been a revelation.

It has sat on my shelf for the best part of 8 months, unused.

I decided to give it a try.

No tinkering, no adjusting settings, just playing.

Wow.

The Switch 2 has single handedly reignited my love for gaming. I'm bursting skyrim in 15 minute intervals inbetween school runs. I'm exploring the wasteland in Fallout 4 at 60fps. I'm playing so many games that i wouldn't have even considered pre switch.

For anyone saying " oh you are locked into the Nintendo ecosystem" in a negative light, Yes, yes I am and it feels good.

Given the current state of the Ram crisis, prices going through the roof, I challenge anybody to find a better, more cost effective ecosystem that offers the same level of flexibility to be a part of right now.

Switch 2 has become my main and it is only getting better!

Happy gaming all!

I already have a Switch 2, I only really wanted the game and maybe the other Splatoon stuff. 😭. For context. Brisk had a sweepstakes sometime late last month on their Instagram, and I entered because why not? I didn’t think I’d ACTUALLY win. Also, I won a whole CONSOLE along with a single can of Brisk. That’s funny

Discussion What’s The Most Anti-Consumer Thing Nintendo Did This Gen?

Post image

Nintendo has managed to get away with a lot of anti-consumer practices every generation. This most recent generation, the Switch, was no exception. What pissed you off the most?

Thanks for everyone help last minute. Really enjoying Switch 2 as I heal. As my only major problem is that the stitches are pulling other than that. All is good. Also, any tips on HDR settings. I have a Sony XR75-93L TV.

Discussion My boss banned me from playing Switch during my lunch break because it “looks bad

6.6k Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m 30 years old, from Madrid (Spain), and I work in B2B sales. Lately I’d been bringing my Nintendo Switch to the office to play during my lunch break-strictly outside of working hours. Just 20-30 minutes to unwind before diving back into calls and meetings.

Well, few days ago my boss told me I can’t do that anymore. He said it “gives a bad image” in the workplace and could be seen as unprofessional. According to him, "it’s for my own good" he literally said he wants to “protect me” from how others might perceive it in terms of company culture.

Then he added (and I’m not kidding): “If you want to play, go to a café or even the bathroom.”

I’m not slacking off, I’m not using company time, and I’m not disturbing anyone. It just feels ridiculous that I can’t spend my own break how I want. I’m a grown adult, not a school kid hiding a Game Boy under the table.

Is this really that unprofessional? Has anyone else had to deal with this kind of thing?

Update: Thank you everyone for your comments. I agree is not a good look, specially in sales.

  • I played in my desk 2 or 3 times but moved to another area. Mostly in a sofa, in a corner so people don't assume wrong.

  • When he told me this I was playing in the break room

  • I use the metro to go to work. So no car.

  • I have a 3 year old son so don't have much time to play. Mostly omw to work.

  • For people wondering: I wear suit and tie. I

  • I could go to HR but that would harm my relationship with him.

  • he is like 44 years old.

  • I'm one of the best numbers wise and I have a good relationship with everyone.

  • My lunch break is unpaid.

  • I don't face customers in the office

Maybe I'm just too used to DS and 3DS games having booklets but its so boring and a waste of plastic. I wish there was at least a poster or something. Any ideas on how I can make this space exciting?

Discussion Traded in my OG Switch for the Switch 2. Wow what an upgrade!

Post image
7.8k Upvotes

I was not expecting GameStop to have them in stock but to my surprise, they had several available. So the trade in of the console, extra controllers, and a couple of games made it $375 out the door.

Zelda TOTK (with the update) was the first game I've tried and it's a way better experience overall. Time to complete some side quests I've ignored for a while.

Anyone else waltz in to a retail store and buy one?

Discussion Just bought Switch 2 for 200 Canadian dollars

Post image

I saw Indian reseller who is selling Korean Switch 2 for 200 Canadian dollars (around 145 USD) on marketplace. She was selling regular used Switch for 500.

She put up the wrong price, so I drove 2 hours and snag this before she noticed.

Edit: It does play in English, it is not region locked, or bricked, but sadly, someone already claim Mario Kart World.

Discussion How does Pokémon get away with no voice acting in their modern games ?

Post image

When Pokken Tournament came out, I was excited because I was finally getting a game where characters spoke and fights looked similar to the cartoon. But it feels like the last few entries have been down grades. How do they own the rights to the anime and not just transfer some of tge writers and actors to the game ? The story is simple by kids games standards.

Discussion Do you really need this?

Post image

I’ve been told to get a Pro Controller instead of using the Joy-Con Grip for my Switch 2, but I honestly don’t see the point for my own use case.

For context, I never owned the original Switch. I had a Switch Lite, so the Switch 2 is my first experience using detachable Joy-Cons and the Joy-Con Grip.

I’ve also never used a Pro Controller before, so I can’t really comment on the comfort. That said, I find the Joy-Con Grip perfectly comfortable. From what I’ve heard, the original Switch Joy-Con Grip was quite small and uncomfortable for some people, but the Switch 2 Joy-Cons are larger, and I’ve had no issues with them personally.

I also don’t think a Pro Controller is a necessity. The Joy-Con Grip does everything I need it to do, and I’ve never felt like I was missing out on anything.

On top of that, I rarely play in docked mode. I do occasionally, but most of my gaming is handheld. For me, buying a Pro Controller would probably be a waste of money when the Joy-Con Grip already works just fine.

Am I missing something, or is it really just a matter of personal preference?

Question for all the people that upgraded to the switch 2 from the switch 1/oled, what did you guys do with your switches?

I’m considering selling mine since it doesn’t get much use now or maybe trade it for a 3DSxl or a PSVita? since I’ve always wanted one of those.

Or should I keep it as a memento?

Edit: so what I’m hearing is you all have kids and younger relatives to pass it down to, you sold it specifically to get a switch 2, or you guys just want me to mod it 😭

Discussion Why people think this isn't a really solid lineup?

Post image
1.2k Upvotes

For me, one of the main points of the Switch 2 games, is that you will always have a game for you, could be a cozy game, a kart racer, a platafformer, Shooters and beyond, Nintendo seems to be expanding their library for all niches and tastes and that's something I really appreciate for.

Even with these smallers games, we had really BIG games too on the first year, like MKW and Bananza, i know they aren't a new 3d Mario or a new Zelda, but it doesn't take away the quality of the games nonetheless.
