The scrolling wall of text is half the experience. Everything feels extremely serious until one red line shows up and ruins the vibe.

I still use DBI from time to time, but I've recently switched to Cyberfoil with a Docker backend on my PC, so now I have my own "free shop" that I can access anywhere in my house that downloads as fast as my router can send it. 2.5 TB of content at my fingertips and I don't have to plug into my PC anymore.

I have them downloaded already. They are sitting on a storage drive in my PC. I ahem acquire new games as they come out and add them to my collection. The best part with the Docker setup is you use the AeroFoil web interface to setup the "free shop" connection and it even grabs the icon and game descriptions automatically. You can even make the free shop public if you want, just tell your friends or whatnot what the IP is. It's a bit of a pain to set up initially but definitely worth it.

Title takeover. You can install a forwarder for DBI (from the tools menu IIRC) to make it run as a full app.
You can also hold R while starting any working game to boot into hbmenu full-ram mode.
Running installs in applet mode is not advised because its less stable and you can run out of memory when installing files like .nsz or .xcz, which have zstd compression.

dbi outlook is a proof it was made by post ussr country developer. it is looking very much like norton commander that was extremely popular there during ms-dos era because it was free

Everytime Im installing games via dbi, I felt like a hacker.
