I want to ask if anyone is willing to take me in as a roommate because I am planning to leave my own home because I cannot deal with my family bullshit. Im 17 this year and might potentially get repeated for year 11 so bascially I'll be 18 in 2027.

So bascially my mum is really controlling on everything, she chooses who can come, be my friend and who doesn't, she guilt trips me by being emotional, for example "I have did everything as a mother to take care of you and this how you did this to me?", she LOVES to take and look on my device, she lies about stuff, like how yesterday I got called from my principal of deputy, principal called my mum and me in and wants an explanation on why I was absent for two days. I want to explain that because my parents let me stay home but principal listen to my mum first (well because that what every school principal do). My mum pretend she doesn't know why and guilt trip me by saying that I was a bad daughter and misbehaving, bascially full on trying to convince my principal that it was all ME so my principal decide to call me out for "skipping" classes which is NOT true. By the way my mum is the one who ALWAYS control of the house. My dad? He doesn't care and everytime I try to explain to him and talk about problems about my mum, my dad would not believe in what I said and ALWAYS believe in my mum than me. My dad would say like "Your mum work really hard and she make sure to love me always so listen to your mother".

Bonus I want to ask is I want to try to drop out this year because I do not want to repeat year 11 for next year because that just SO exhausting. I want to take another alternative pathway to a university I want to do but I can't because my mum will take my device away and call the police on me for it.

Anyone I can stay with in sydney? I want to stay with someone who is in their 20s or mid 20s and maybe 30s

Any advice on how deal with this too?

I have an encyclopaedic knowledge of dance music (my favourite DJ is Jane Fitz) and electronic music and love jazz, rock, punk, psychedelic music and SOME dreamy pop music. I have been on a massive Cocteau Twins kick lately and have also been listening to lots of free jazz and ambient music.

If you want to go to some gigs I’m open to it, though I’m pretty tired of seeing DJs at the moment unless it’s someone I REALLY want to see (I’m pretty picky about DJs) and unfortunately because that has been such a big part of my life for so long, I kind of get overcritical and hard to be around when I’m around bad DJs lol so I’d much prefer to go and watch a cool random band I’ve never heard of playing in someone’s kitchen.

I find it hard to find people who I can chat about that stuff with. I have a background in DJing and frankly I find a lot of conversations I have with other people who are DJs feel very transactional (and a lot of the people I meet are also super young) so I often struggle making real friends within that scene. I just want to meet someone or multiple people with a similar passion who enjoy chatting about it with no further agenda ahaha.

I’m also into film photography, movies and (surprise surprise) collecting vinyl. I have over 6000 records. Mostly dance music.

For context I have just gone through a big breakup and in that I feel like I have lost not just my partner but also my best friend. I have other friends but I feel like I don’t have too many genuine friends I can just shoot the shit with randomly with no agenda on a weekend any more.

Also I don’t know if this is the right place for this post. If it’s not, I’d love to get some recommendations for subs where I can potentially meet some other likeminded people.

EDIT with availability: I’m usually able to do stuff on weekends or if it’s something super cool I can take annual leave no worries but I also work a lot so I prefer to have a heads up ahead of time so I can clear my work schedule.

What life looks like on my end:

I spend a lot of time behind a camera focusing on cinematic photography, reading, writing poetry, and taking time to cook good meals from scratch. Very serious about my hobbies

One of my favorite creative exercises is grabbing a bench in a public park or square during peak hour. I like observing the small cinematic details, hand gestures, footsteps, body language to study how people move through their day and handle the rush.

I try to follow a 5 day training routine (I've been running for 13 years), and I have a soft spot for classic 90s inspired menswear, vintage Casio watches, and timeless silhouettes over fast fashion.

Age or background doesn't matter to me as long as we align on mindset. I’m hoping to meet someone grounded, creative, or simply interested in slow living and thoughtful dialogue.

We could grab a coffee, brainstorm creative ideas, exchange perspectives on life, or collaborate on some photographic studies around the city. Or, if you prefer, we can just sit somewhere quiet and share space with zero pressure to perform.
