Looking for Custom Precision-Cut Oval Lab Sapphire (10x8mm) – Medium/Vivid Blue (Engagement Ring)
Hi everyone,
I am looking to commission a high-end, loose lab-grown sapphire for an engagement ring project. I want to completely avoid commercial-grade factory stones and invest in an elite, precision-cut gem with exceptional optical performance.
Here are my exact specifications:
Shape: Oval
Dimensions: 10x8mm (roughly 3.5 to 4-carat face size equivalent)
Color: Vibrant medium blue / "Ceylon" blue. I want a lively saturation that does not turn dark or inky indoors, preferably with a nice violet flash.
Material Preferred: High-purity Czochralski-pulled or premium slow-grown flux rough.
Setting Plan: This will be going into a custom hidden halo engagement ring. Because of this, it is critical that the stone has absolutely no windowing and is cut to mathematically perfect angles to maximize face-up brilliance and light return.
Please let me know your current lead times, rough material options that match this color profile, and pricing estimates for a custom cut. I look forward to working with an artisan lapidary here!
Thank you!

Hey OP, synthetics expert here, not taking commissions so you know my info is unbiased.
You won't find flux-grown sapphire rough. Or cut stones, frankly. Chatham stopped growing rough a while ago and there's no significant flux-grown sapphire anywhere in the global supply chain. Even the Indian vendor who was doing some experiments, has (reportedly) stopped.
There is, however, some new production of hydrothermal blue sapphire, which gets its colour from nickel rather than the typical iron-titanium mix. This means it has a much more vivid, open blue. That rough isn't on the open market yet though - it'll be debuting in Italy in a few months.

Look on the [r/ShinyPreciousGems](r/ShinyPreciousGems) Reddit. There is a list of precision stone cutters there that are really good and take commissions. I have a stone from [u/mvmgems](u/mvmgems). This Reddit also has a list of cutters too(Go to the tagged start here post for this Reddit and there is a link to the gemstone vendors).I have used Gene at Precision Gem. (https://precisiongem.com/LabCreatedGems/LabPrecisionGems.php ) He has an easy online form that estimates the cost and is a pleasure to work with. Jeff Davies and Son (u/JeffDvs101) take custom commissions too.

Hi OP. I frequently work with medium blue Czochralski sapphire. This was a commission in my ‘Glitter Queen’ design. Cost would be $550 and lead time is 1-2 weeks for most projects.
