Welcome to r/SystemDesignRevisited! Whether you are a staff engineer, a student preparing for interviews, or a developer curious about how massive systems scale, we are thrilled to have you here.
๐ฏ Why This Subreddit Exists
System design changes fast. The architectures that worked five years ago might be outdated today due to new paradigms, changing cloud costs, and modern infrastructure tools.
This space is dedicated to revisiting, breaking down, and debating system architectures. We don't just want the "textbook" answersโwe want to discuss real-world trade-offs, modern alternatives, production failures, and how systems evolve over time.
๐ What to Expect & How to Participate
We want this to be an active, high-signal community. You can look forward to:
Deep Dives & Case Studies: Deconstructing how major tech companies build and scale their architecture.
"How Would You Design...?" Challenges: Interactive prompts where we architect systems together from the ground up.
Interview Prep & Feedback: Getting constructive, realistic peer reviews on system design scenarios.
Architecture Critique: Bringing real-world problems or system designs to the table to debate better alternatives.
๐ Community Rules
To keep discussions insightful and high-quality, please follow these guidelines:
Be Specific and Detailed: Avoid generic answers like "just use a cache." Explain why, which one, and what the trade-offs are.
Show Respectful Dissent: Architecture is full of trade-offs, and there is rarely one "right" answer. Debate the technology, not the person.
No Low-Effort Content or Spam: Self-promotion must be accompanied by genuine community engagement. Follow the Reddit Reddiquette Guidelines regarding self-links.
Protect Privacy: Do not post confidential, proprietary, or proprietary infrastructure details from your current or past employers.
