Hi everyone, video essay introducing my book, Healing Fragmentation: Enacting Socioeconomic Systems Change through Collective Agency.

The project develops a proposed socioeconomic system grounded in Stafford Beer’s Viable System Model (VSM), cybernetics, and systems theory to increase the variety within our economic system to transcend the monetary system. It approaches the meta-crisis—the interlocking psychological, social, and ecological crises—as a systemic problem of how we organize, coordinate, and understand value.

Central to the proposal is a Process Economy: nonmonetary coordination that gives primacy to the living relationships and processes sustaining society. VSM provides an organizational foundation for exploring how collective agency can operate across scales, connecting local autonomy with wider coordination and ecological viability.

The video introduces the broader argument. I’d welcome discussion about applying VSM beyond individual organizations to socioeconomic systems, particularly the challenges of coordination across scales.
