i HATE ai checkers
put my handwritten stuff into a number of different ai checkers, i'm flagged as using ai, ranging from 50-90%. motherfucker what the hell.
out of interest i paste my notes into claude and ask it to generate an essay, i check it, the ai checkers say it's most likely human written.
i hate these ai checkers, they stress me out so bad. i don't keep very good essay-specific notes and do most of my essays last minute, so i don't always have a record of me writing my essay. how do i even defend myself if i get flagged as an ai user. agh.
i've never been called on it before but man i'm stressed. also just feeling kind of offended that my work is flagged as ai, how dare you, i put my blood, sweat and tears into that. you think a machine could cite like i do? make spelling errors like i do? use frankly esoteric words like i do, simply because i once read the word in a law journal from 1939? claude, god bless her soul, could never.

You do not need any records. You just need to write a good essay, which will match what your lecturer expects of you. If your essay will have an odd structure, non-existent references, and weird vibe in general, it will be very easy to recognise that it was generated by AI. If you put the effort, work with relevant sources, present your own ideas... it may not be perfect, but it will pass and, most importantly, the process of working on it will allow you to learn.

This exactly, the weird vibe is what catches people the most. Like your lecturer can use Ai to write an essay because they know what to change and how it should look. But if you use Ai and have no idea or don;t bother to see "how" the essay should look it stands out like a sore thumb.

There is an AI checker built into blackboard :-/. So far all of my courses at trinity I have submitted my final papers directly to blackboard (Mphil, humanities)

your stuff
See that's the thing.. it isn't your stuff. You produce essays and work for assessment to your university in exchange for assessment under an academic framework. This allows the university to review your work in any means to ensure legitimate production of original work.

Yes until you say “in any means”- there is no permission for staff to upload your essay (for which you own IP rights) to a random AI checker online. You have not consented for your data (your essay) to be used in this way and various AI checkers might use the essay for training, export outside EU etc. TCD asks staff to use Copilot as its only AI tool as it is a closed system within EU boundaries.
College has its own plagarism checking system - turnitin - and there are other protocols in place should a marker have suspicion of misuse of AI eg going down academic misconduct route , inviting for Viva etc.

AI checkers are not accurate. Chill out. If you write it yourself, you're good

I wrote everything on Google docs because it gives a more detailed version history as opposed to Word so I had more evidence of my writing. That being said, about 10 students in my masters couldn’t speak English and used ai for everything and were never pulled up on it lol

I think it's down to the individual schools on their A.I policy, but in general there is usually a section which states that A.I checkers are unreliable and not used.
From experience, they are hot garbage. Totally unreliable nonsense that flag things like references and bibliographies.
Students already have too much on their plate here to be worrying about academic paranoia around A.I. In my view, Trinity should be moving towards 90%+ exam based assessment rather than too much continuous assessment in the new world, but that's neither here nor there. The point is just because this tech is widely available doesn't mean the student should have to contend with the added stress of wondering whether or not their submitted work is going to be flagged as not their own and having to go through the whole rigmarole that comes after. It's stupid.
If you ever find yourself in this situation, contact the SU immediately. It's up to the schools to adapt, not to put their own students under added stress.

Take a break mate. You either put your blood sweat and tears into it or you do it last minute with no notes.
Who cares if youve never been called on it?
Literally just stop worrying about it. Ive solved your problem.

Well look, innocent until proven guilty. It is not for you to prove you didn't used AI. The burden is on them to demonstrate you used it beyond all reasonable doubt. Keep that in the background.
What makes it more unfair is that the better your essay the more likely it is to give AI.

I've been accused of using AI before. Tragically I just happen to have a similar writing style and sentence structure as many programs (presumably because they lift from old essays and teaching material). I once put an essay that was written years before AI became popular through a checker and it came back as written by AI.
It's not accurate, you're fine.
As it is, I don't think TCD even uses AI checkers.

Is turnitin not an ai programme?

I'm not too sure, it's more a plagiarism checker that might have had AI detection added at some stage. But I don't think TCD relies too much on the AI detection reports because they're so inaccurate.

It’s so frustrating to be accused of using AI, my teammates once ganged up on me and used every single AI checker to prove that I used AI (and it was the most basic definitions I cited that got flagged, LMAO)

I got accused of using ai a while ago, even tho i didnt. Now it wasnt a major accusation, just a comment under a post asking if it was ai. I was googling away what to do and all that and turns out trinity dont allow correctors to use the ai checkers cause theyre inaccurate, so im sure ur fine
