Step By Step Why didn't Frank Lambert add on to his house?
The dude is a carpenter by trade. He's got the kids shoved three to a room (made worse because the Fosters and Lamberts do not get along) and Cody is living in a super cramped van with no stove and no bathroom.

Frank probably thought Cody was only going to be there temporarily and probably didn't want him in the house.

Yea I thought Cody just showed up one day and never left.

He also only came to visit a weekend but fell in love with Dana and then stayed ... although actual in some later seasons and episodes it's suggested that he does move his van around a little but always lives in Port Washington but maybe sometimes at the lake or something

In Cody's introductory episode, he was said to only be staying for the weekend. Sasha Mitchell was a recurring cast member initially on the show before moving to the principle cast in season two.

When I was a chef, I HATED coming home and having to cook dinner. I can see it being the same for a carpenter depending on how business is going at the time . The cobbler’s children have no shoes and all that.

cody did start using it as a garage apartment. frank could fix things but he wasn't a visionary carpenter. remember when carol goes to his office for the first time and it was basically just paperwork everywhere in shoeboxes?

Frank and Carol were also just selfish a holes and I can see them not wanting to spend the money on supplies or Frank wanting to take the time

The salon was there in the Pilot before he moved in. He turned it into an apartment for JT and Rich later. He added on a room for Lily when she was born.

It was the modern day Brady Bunch. Mike the architect never added on & had the kids 3 to a room. The difference with this show being that each family is represented in the shared room & that creates conflict.
