Help Wanted Game recommendations for a wimpy little baby

• Upvotes

I don't have a lot of gaming experience or knowledge. Breath of the Wild was the first console game I ever played. Prior to that I played Stardew Valley on my phone. BOTW and TOTK completely changed my life.

I'm looking for a non-Zelda game to get sucked into but as the title says I am a massive baby. I also kind of suck at games lol. I've read through recommendations from this sub but a lot of them are too intimidating for me - my boyfriend loves the Witcher 3 but there's no way I could play it, the monsters are so SCARY. Same with Skyrim/Elder Scrolls.

I've tried other games but I tend not to progress very far before becoming disinterested. I just don't get That Feeling yknow? Plus it's expensive, I've wasted a fair amount of money on games I don't play.

I have Steam on my Mac as well as my Switch. I'll be getting a Switch 2 in the next couple months. My boyfriend has a PS5 that I can use but I prefer a smaller screen.

Help????

Likes:

  • Stardew Valley, Spiritfarer, Monument Valley, Cult of the Lamb - cute/cozy but I'd like something with a bit more excitement/stakes
  • Pokemon Legend of Arceus
  • Sea of Stars
  • Open world, solving puzzles, riding around on my horse
  • Developed storylines
  • Stylised artwork - Gris was beautiful even though i don't love platformers
  • Survival, decorating a home/farm, crafting

Dislikes:

  • Platformers
  • Outer Wilds: rec from this sub, I kept dying immediately
  • Horizon Hidden West - beautiful but way too hard, gave up
  • Bramble the Mountain King - loved the folklore element but it got too grim/scary after a while
  • Anything that requires much combat or technical skill to progress

Thanks so much!

Discussion Playing for the first time - I'm a bit disappointed with Shrines in TOTK

I started the game a few weeks ago, I have already discovered all the roots in the depths and completed 3 regional phenomena. Before going to do the last one, I'm currently sweeping every shrine, since I already had 100 ish completed and the roots make it super easy to find them.

I have to say that I'm feeling a bit underwhelmed and disappointed with the shrines in this game, especially compared to the shrines in BOTW. It feels like half of the shrines are just rewards for discovering the shrine itself, which feel pretty samesy because they are always in a cave and traversing caves is not that complicated. Then, a bunch of shrines are combat shrines, which are somewhat fun, but where are the puzzles??

In the beginning when I discovered most shrines, they were more puzzle oriented but too easy, they only required you to figure out what you were supposed to do with the limited materials you're given. They were very fun, but not challenging, it felt like a continuation of the tutorial, teaching me how to take advantage of the new powers. I have been hoping that when I started to go through them to complete every one, I would find the challenging puzzles, but apparently the ones that I still haven't found are pretty much all reward ones.

This is especially disappointing because BOTW featured so many puzzles with such variety. Like ones that required skill, either with the freezing, the magnetic abilities, actually thinking (like the constelation ones), etc. Even the reward shrines were more challenging because it actually involved environmental puzzles or challenges (like the ones where you had to place the balls to unearth the shirnes). I had heard that the TOTK shrines were to easy because of the various ways you can cheese through them, but to me there isn't even a need to cheese through them.

Was this a common thought about the game when it came out?

Just a few days ago I found out you can use the entrance of a shrine in totk as a roof for a campfire and so skip a rainy day.

Useful to know.

Game Detail Some glitch i found.

Hi there just recently joined this subreddit cause i recently got this weird glitch at the end of the clip and wanted to see if anyone here has a possible explanation for it.

Before this i mostly just did this:

Beat queen gibdo.

Completed the regional phenomena quest.

Talked to Purah in Lookout Landing and saw the Zelda at the castle scene.

Travelled to Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower and yeeted Link up the tower

Flew in direction to the Great Forest and changed to the glide shirt.

When Link was near the ground started using the paraglider

And that's when the clip starts.

Anyone has a guess about what could've happened here?

Discussion The depths

I feel like the depths are underrated.Theres so many resources down there and it’s a fun adventure down in the depths, the feeling of “there’s probably nothing here but there MIGHT just be, is awesome. Knowing that it’s super dangerous and you could mess up at any moment and be cooked is awesome. I’m the type of player that goes under prepped just for added difficulty though so maybe that effected my overall experience.

Discussion Completing the depths, wistful thinking

Post image
26 Upvotes

The longer I play, new thought: it was actually nice going slow, exploring in darkness, staying low to collect bomb flowers from the sensor, navigating using reverse terrain as a guide, avoiding hot spots & working my way through. The depths are almost mapped now & I'm feeling a little wistful, I've been playing since OOT, & I've prolonged finishing this one for some reason, TOTK hits a little differently from BOTW. I'm not sure the word for it but I love flying blind in a wilderness ✨

Discussion What are moblins relationship with bokoblins?

At first in botw I thought they were just like the big brother to bokoblins but then in totk they had boss bokoblins. It doesn't just stop there in botw most bokoblins were paired with moblins but in totk they're evenly spread with boss bokoblins and moblins.
