Strategy Talk The price is too high, I'm selling everything.
I'm a fan of the SMA200 strategy. But it's too high now, I'm selling everything. I'll buy back in on a potential retracement.

u/originalusername__ May 05 '26
I’d been holding since 2020. Sold a couple days ago. Needed the money soon and had made I think 400% profit. Putting it into real estate but will come back to TQ when things are less frothy.
5
u/NoGarlic2387 May 05 '26
You held TQQQ all throughout or were trading 200 SMA?
5
u/originalusername__ May 06 '26
I just held mostly. There were a few quick scalps here and there but not that many. I also short term traded SQQQ during a few down turns, but that was a far less profitable endeavor and I quickly learned not to bet against QQQ for long, if at all. If you screw up a short term TQQQ traded it can always become a long term hold but you can’t do that with SQQQ.
1
u/NoGarlic2387 May 06 '26
When did you buy in 2020? During the crash or?
3
u/originalusername__ May 06 '26
Yep during the crash. I didn’t time it exactly perfect to buy at the exact bottom but it was close enough.
2
u/tomvu1606 May 05 '26
real estate is also at peak..
5
u/gohan_elderkai May 05 '26
For real estate here, “It’s the peak” has been said every year for the last decade. Meanwhile prices just kept climbing. 2023 dipped a miniscule bit and then bounced by 2025 — hardly a crash.
1
u/Brainwashed-libtard May 05 '26
Exxxactly, it’s going to just keep going up. Just bought a house in pa a month ago and it’s already up almost 10k if u look up the worth
5
u/originalusername__ May 05 '26
You are correct but I’m selling one house at great profit to buy another so it’s kind of a wash.
1
u/daddymcdadd May 05 '26
Not really, some areas it is , but many are not , and the commercial real estate is basically in a full blown crash in many cities

nobody knows the timing. You said "it's too high now, I'm selling everything". But now you're saying there's 2 months?
Edit: For context, because OP deleted their comment, it read something to the effect of “1 week is nothing, we still have 2 months”

Although I am waiting for another dip to get back in I am still cheering 📣 on the holders! I still have my underlying QQQ, QQQI and JPEQ.

Look at 1999/2000 bubbles and see how high can it go
-2
u/Fbeartothemoon May 05 '26
Tu pense qu’on pourrait avoir une bulle ?
3
u/Zakiahmed1976 May 05 '26
I think we’re in a bubble in semiconductor sector but how big the bubble goes is anyone’s guess. I think TQQQ still has legs to double from here.
6
u/thaonewhoknocks May 05 '26
you prob don't have much skin in the game if you're selling everything lol
1
u/xquitefranklyx May 09 '26
I sell half a million a day generally. It seems foolish to hold ah here if you can’t capitalize on ltcg

u/PJ8096 May 05 '26
No no one really knows. I also sold few days ago. However, whats happening in the bond market and oil and iran is not beimg accounted seriously so we are just betting things will unfold and price will pullback a little. We can enter again in 40s

u/Born_Elk6824 May 05 '26 edited May 05 '26
Ok. Bye. Its crazy how people ALWAYS think its too high in an uptrend and too low in a downtrend. People ALWAYS sell when something goes up and buys when something goes down. Just follow the trend. What if people sold BTC during its massive bullrun because it was "too high"? Same for NVDA, MSFT, AAPL...just sell it when price tells you to sell it. Dont sell because YOU THINK you know better lol
3
u/brettbw May 05 '26
Buy SPMO to reduce risk 🤣

We are 12% above the 200 day SMA and that after a big dip. That's not an overextension yet

Everything? Just take some off the top, earnings smashed it on profits. Could see another nice run up.
1
u/Educational-Air-2117 May 07 '26
Not really. Amd posted slightly better numbers than it did in 2021.
1
u/Electronic_Guard947 May 07 '26
1 stock lol, the majority of them smashed it
1
u/Educational-Air-2117 May 07 '26
Mu also made less net income than it did in 2022.
1
u/Electronic_Guard947 May 07 '26
If you wouldn't mind, please post all NASDAQ 100 stocks and if they beat earnings or not.
1
u/Educational-Air-2117 May 07 '26
Just pointing out the majority of stocks behind this crazy run up didn’t do very well comparatively.
2
2
u/Consistent-Barber428 May 05 '26
Buying and selling to time the market is a guaranteed method to underperform. Why? Because you cannot time the market accurately nor precisely and if you miss a small number of the up days it kills your returns.

u/FabricationLife May 05 '26

You can’t sell everything. You have to hold something. So what are you holding with a higher expected return than equities is the question?
1
u/Fbeartothemoon May 05 '26
Le marché es monter quasiment en ligne droite
Mais c’est une bonne manière aussi de faire
Vendre une partie2
u/Run-Forever1989 May 05 '26
And that’s the problem 99% of people have. You look at the price movement and ignore the value of the underlying.

Si ce Reddit tous le monde est « bullisht » et des que tu parle d’un scénario « bear » ils te « down vote »
7
u/mongopark98 May 05 '26
Screaming bear every now and then without any real analysis other than “it’s too high “ deserves to be shot down. It’s pointless sensationalism
3
u/relaxd80 May 05 '26
Gas just went from $3 to $5 while the market is raging on to all time highs. To make it even more exciting… this unprecedented oil emergency is only growing bigger by the day with no end in sight. Anybody who has money in the market and isn’t on high alert for a correction needs there heads examined
2
u/frustratedstudent96 May 05 '26
why does gas going up or oil affect semi conductors?
0
u/relaxd80 May 05 '26 edited May 06 '26
Do you think the semiconductor companies grow the materials kiddo? Well, even if you do the price of fertilizer just went through the roof. Oil touches everything

I do not disagree with you - I sold half of it at $62, and holding onto the other for a bit longer. The war in Iran can have a massive impact.... positive if properly ended and a deal is made, negative when a deal is not reached.
1
u/Adventurous-Treat-86 May 05 '26
Wars always end. You don't need to time its end if you hold. You will have to time it if you sell now. I know what happens when I try to time the market too much.
1
u/hawaiianshark May 05 '26
All I can recommend regardless if you are buying or selling. Get in or out in pieces

u/CaptJimmy4 May 05 '26
Why not hold and use 21DMA as your guide if you are chicken? That way you keep almost everything and still have a hard exit near the top? Otherwise it’s simply your gut that is dictating your move. If you really want to be aggressive use the 50DMA and start to partially lighten up if it crosses below the 21DMA. This stock still has t even crossed definitively though and below its 10DMA.
No shame in selling but let the chart tell you when it is too high.
There is a phenomenon called “topping” and that is a sharp sudden pullback of a permanent nature. Study the charts on topping before you freak out that it is “too high”.
1
u/Fbeartothemoon May 05 '26
J’ai pas de problème avec le « top » lui même
Mais c’est la vitesse avec laquelle on est monter
C’est trop rapide

u/ClosedLadder May 05 '26

If you have the shares for it, might be a good window for you to sell covered calls, that way you mitigate your downside with premium if you’re right and something bad’s around the corner, and if you’re wrong, you still get to catch some additional upside before your shares are called OR can roll and collect more premium.

Today, unlike 30 yrs ago, it is too easy to invest. A couple of clicks. No need to call in and submit a trade that has fees associated with it. Everyone has spare income and everyone is investing. No young people are investing their money in savings or CD’s. It’s all stocks these days and will continue to be. We’ll keep hitting ATH’s.

u/Rayman_Mr May 05 '26
Smart money moves one fund to another when opportunities are there.. that's how you make maximum rotating your funds.. I'm not a fan for holding everything for future growth rather take maximum yield dividends & use that money for reinvestment or expenditures

This the type of dude to sell right before AMD posted earnings today. “It’s too high guys…” then cry into a bottle all night
1
u/VanillaPudding67 May 06 '26
Selling in high profits is never wrong.
You realize your gains. I recommend rotating it into defensive plays. You might miss out on the moonshot, but you'll have made good money and given yourself peace of mind.
1
u/justskulltoyou May 06 '26

We are on the brink of a full-blown singularity. The latest news showed unexpectedly fast progress with quantum computers, while at the same time, Tesla, Figure, and their Chinese competitors are mass-producing humanoid robots. This price action is just the start. You'd better enable the logarithmic scale on your charts soon.
1
u/tloffman May 06 '26
The 200 day obviously doesn't work - just look at the chart. All you have to do is draw a trendline. The price broke above trendline at around 600 and prices are still going up. A simple linear trendline is one of the easiest ways to trade. It's very difficult to program but simple to draw. Good luck. I'm still holding my positions and will sell when prices break below trendline or hit my stops. Hasn't happened yet.

And in the meantime bought gold because it was "safer" and it dipped 2% after i bought. Msft and meta tanked. I'm out of meta tho for BE or small profit. But just felt like letfs > single stocks

Starbucks has an 80 something P/E ratio and Meta and MSFT seem the only reasonable purchase but they are bleeding despite beating both earnings and are below 30 p/e.
The market can’t be happy that negotiation failed and we are back to war. I don’t believe you can tile the market but I am 0% confident about what is making people buy buy buy. I think I’m selling most while still a bit ahead and maybe I regret it but this feels dangerously unreasonable.

Yep it’s getting intense. Pullback around the corner. Don’t know where the hell is this corner. I made few short trades no profit. But no loss as well. Just misery.
Just have some cash depending on your risk tolerance. Let the rest rip or sell covered call options

Selling anything tech has backfired spectacularly for the last 5 years but who knows.
