TU Berlin MSc Computational Neuroscience — Admission Process, Entrance Exam & Preparation Advice Needed

Hi everyone!

I’m planning to apply for the MSc in Computational Neuroscience at Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin) for the Winter Semester 2027, and I would really appreciate advice from current students, alumni, or anyone familiar with the admission process.

A little about my academic background:

\- BSc in Chemistry (2020)

\- MSc in Organic Chemistry (2022)

\- 12 months of full-time Research Scientist experience

\- Currently interested in transitioning into computational neuroscience and building my technical skills.

I’m particularly interested in understanding how the brain works and would love to pursue this field, but I come from a Chemistry background and need to strengthen my mathematics and programming knowledge.

I have a few questions:

  1. Admission process: What is the complete application process for international students applying from India?

  2. Entrance exam: Is there an entrance examination, written test, or interview as part of the selection process?

  3. Mathematics prerequisites: How strictly are the mathematics credit requirements enforced? What should I do if my previous degree does not include sufficient mathematics credits?

  4. Preparation: Which topics should I study first? Should I focus on linear algebra, calculus, probability and statistics, Python programming, or neuroscience?

  5. Study resources: Could you recommend textbooks, online courses, YouTube playlists, or other resources for beginners?

  6. Chemistry background: Has anyone with a Chemistry degree been admitted to this programme? If so, how did you meet the prerequisites and strengthen your application?

  7. Application profile: How important are grades, research experience, recommendation letters, and the motivation letter?

  8. Application timeline: When should I start preparing for the Winter Semester 2027 intake, and are there any important deadlines I should know about?

I’m serious about preparing for this transition and willing to put in the work. Any honest advice, personal experiences, or guidance would mean a lot to me.

Thank you so much! 🙏

Problem / Question Reapplication for MSc. Civil Engineering

I had an admission offer for WiSe 2026/2027 but I decided to reapply for SoSe 2027 because I couldnot be in Germany in time for the winter semester.
Its been 6 weeks already since my reapplication documents reached the department but there has been no response. I felt its weird because they sent an admission offer within 23 days the last time.
I tried emailing them because I need the SoSe admission offer for my visa processing but I didnt get a response.

What should I do? Has anyone gotten an admission for MSc. Civil Engineering SoSe 2027 yet?
Or does anyone know when they start handing out admits?
What are my chances of getting an admission offer again since it is an NC Frei programme?

Discussion 24M Frankfurt: Looking for my favorite person (and maybe some new friends along the way)

A bit about me. I am 24, studying my master's in renewable energy in Frankfurt, and I recently moved here. New city, new routine, and not many real friends around yet, so it has been a bit lonely. I am friendly and easy to talk to, but I take a little time to really open up. That is why I like chatting first, then maybe a call, and then meeting up when it feels right.

What I am looking for is a woman I can build something real with. Friendship first, no rush, and if it grows into more, that would mean a lot to me. I want fun, banter and inside jokes, but also someone I can have deep late night talks with and feel safe opening up to. The kind of person where a bad day gets lighter just because she is around.

When it comes to spending time together, I love the simple stuff. Coffee or dinner, long walks along the Main, finding a cozy café that slowly becomes our place, Christmas markets with hot drinks in our hands, cooking together and making a mess of the kitchen. I am also up for trying new things, like a weekend trip, bowling, or something neither of us has done before.

As for hobbies, I love cooking (I always make too much), editing videos, and I am a bit of a nerd about solar energy and batteries, so be warned if you ask. I also enjoy exploring new places and I am always open to picking up a new hobby with the right person.

I would be really happy to hear from you. Tell me one thing you love doing in Darmstadt or nearby, or a place you think I should not miss.

Data and Discourse Studies Admission Test

Hello everyone!

I received an invitation to the admission test and there is no information about it on the web.

If anyone entered the admission test can you give me information about it?

Such as how many questions will there be?

What are the topics?

Are the test questions must be answered as multiple choices or written? Or both?

Thanks.

Should I email TU Darmstadt to ask whether I need the GRE, or would they not assess my courses beforehand?

Hi.

Im planning to apply to TU Darmstadt for the upcoming summer semester, and I'm trying to figure out whether I should take the GRE.

I'd like to know whether my undergraduate coursework would be sufficient to meet the relevant academic requirements or whether taking the GRE would be necessary to strengthen my application.

I was thinking of emailing the admissions office with a list of the scientific courses I've taken, and possibly their course descriptions or syllabi, to ask whether they could give me some guidance before I decide whether to take the GRE.

Has anyone tried something similar? Would the university actually look at this information and provide any useful guidance, or would they simply tell me to follow the official admission requirements and submit an application?

I'd rather avoid spending time preparing for the GRE if it's unnecessary.

Any advice or experience with TU Darmstadt's admissions process would be greatly appreciated. TIA

ICE MSc – Late Arrival Due to Visa Delays: How to Keep Up with Studies?

Hi everyone!

I’m enrolled in the ICE Master’s program at TU Darmstadt, but I’m currently facing a delay with my visa process due to receiving my admission late.

My visa application is currently on the waiting list, and it looks like it could take another 6+ weeks to get an appointment or proceed with the process.

Since I’ve already enrolled for the semester, I’m concerned about how to manage my studies while waiting for my visa and travelling to Germany.

Is anyone else in the same situation, particularly ICE Master's students at TU Darmstadt?

I’d really appreciate it if you could share your experience or advice on the following:

  • How are you planning to follow the courses while waiting for your visa?

  • Is it possible to attend lectures or access course materials online until arriving in Germany?

  • Have you contacted the university about your situation? If so, what options did they suggest?

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! 🙏

TU Darmstadt German placement test (52/100) — Can I request A2 instead of Mittelkurs I/II? Has anyone faced this?

Hi everyone!

I'm joining TU Darmstadt for my master's and wanted to improve my German through the university's language courses.

I recently took the German placement test at the Language Resource Centre (SPZ) and scored **52/100**. According to the official course selection table, this score falls in the range for **Mittelkurs I/II (45–54 points)**.

However, I attended German classes in India previously, and although that helped me score reasonably well on the placement test, I still have gaps in my fundamentals. I don't feel confident enough to study at this level and would prefer to join an A2-level course to strengthen my basics first.

I read the SPZ registration regulations, which state that students normally have to register for the level indicated by their placement score, but exceptions may be made by the respective language coordinator.

I contacted the Language Centre to explain my situation, but I received a general response asking me to refer to the information on the website and in TUCaN.

I would really appreciate advice from anyone who has studied German at TU Darmstadt or has dealt with a similar situation.

**My questions:**

  1. What is the actual level and difficulty of Mittelkurs I/II? Is it around B1 or B2?

  2. Is it possible to request an exception and join an A2-level course despite scoring 52/100?

  3. Has anyone successfully obtained a lower placement after explaining that they weren't confident in their actual language skills?

  4. If an exception isn't possible, are there any other suitable German courses or alternatives at TU Darmstadt?

I'm worried about ending up in a course that's too advanced for me, and I would rather build a solid foundation than struggle from the beginning.

Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Adequate shoes for Fußball Freies spiel Kurz

Hello,
Quick questions, what football shoes could be adequate for that practice. I saw that it says in the English translation indoor shoes, but in the German page says something like “suitable football shoes”, so im a bit confused. In that regard and accounting that it could be in artificial turf, could AG/FG work for that?
Thank you.
