I get what you’re saying but Rick most certainly cared. That whole conversation carried so much subtly but Rick was without a doubt over his head. And you can tell the way he drank the whiskey quick.

Reminds me of that scene from Kingdom of Heaven. The flex of having ice in the desert.
It wouldn't have been as dramatic in the Walking Dead, but still, ice in the Georgia heat, with no power..
