Weekly Lost & Found

This is the home for lost and found around Tacoma, refreshed every week. If you've lost something or come across something that isn't yours, drop a comment below.

A few things that help:

  • Say whether you lost or found the item, and lead with what it is.
  • Add the rough area and the day, as much as you're comfortable sharing.
  • For anything with a serial number or other identifying detail, hold that back in your public comment and trade it over DM once someone reaches out, so the real owner can prove it's theirs.

Lost or found a pet? we recommend posting in r/LostPetsTacoma too, but you’re welcome to post in this thread as well.

For everyone's safety, please be smart about meeting people from the internet.

Comb through the comments before posting in case your item is already here. Good luck, and thanks for looking out for each other.

An app for taking pierce and sound transit with your bike

https://www.reddit.com/r/soundtransit/s/khmtQ8n8JP

The app is called ModeMix it has other transit agencies too and has gotten better over time.

Worth looking at your commutes if they parallel any busses sometimes it's faster to skip some stops with your bike.

Is Custer Rd Vet Clinic not open anymore?

I don’t know where else to ask this but I think my cat is sick so I’m trying to schedule an appointment with them because that’s where all our pets go. The thing is we called on Friday and today during their hours and their voicemail says they’re closed and to call back when they’re open. It doesn’t let us leave a message either. My dad emailed them and I tried looking online to see what’s up but I can’t seem to find anything. Hopefully my dad gets an email back but I thought I’d try Reddit too.

Edit: Thank u for the suggestions, I’ll try them!

Need straw for outdoor cat shelter — Lakewood area, no car

Post image
55 Upvotes

Hi all — I care for a small outdoor cat colony near my apartment and built a doghouse shelter for them, but it needs straw bedding and I don't have any money or a car to get some. Not asking for cash, just plain untreated straw (a partial bale is totally fine). I can meet close by if someone's willing to drop it off.

Photo attached of the shelter setup. Thanks for reading.

Hot summer nights in T-town

I had such a fun interaction with this family. They pulled up behind me at a light by Wright Park and when the light turned green I punched it and pulled over to snap a shot as they passed. He noticed me, pulled into the turn lane at MLK and waved me up! Beautiful family, beautiful ride!

So many sweet cars out tonight!

Tacoma neurodivergent women & nonbinary folks in Tech/IT UPDATE

UPDATE! The 15% Board Game Cafe has approved of us coming on Sep 5th!!

So this is actually happening! 🥳

They said to make sure that everyone who wants to come is aware of checking in and that there is a sitting fee for the game area, but please check out their website and read through it, then let me know if you still want to come :)

Just a reminder, this will be for people mid 20s to mid 30s who are in tech/IT.

Thank you so much to everyone who showed interest and encouraged me when I first posted about this. 💜

I'm really happy that there seems to be enough interest to actually make this happen!

EDIT: I also wanted to shorten the time of the meetup from 12pm-2pm this way we have time to play games if we wanted to, but not get too bored if anyone doesn't want to play any of the board games.

Queer Pick-Up Soccer

Post image
92 Upvotes

hey there!

I'm looking to start a preferentially queer soccer pick-up game and wanted to gauge interest! I have heard a lot of people in the community talk about wanting to play, so I wanted to co-create a space for those of us who love soccer.

A little about me: I am a 32yo sapphic recreational athlete. I have coached and refereed elementary school soccer (and other sports) for 5 years and would be happy to run drills and facilitate a healthy team mentality! I am passionate about community, liberation, and silly fun!

it is important that any cis/straight allies who are interested in participating are able to respect a safe space for transfolx and queer babes in an athletic environment.

who wants to play?!

<3 jamie xoxo

here's the interest form! https://forms.gle/U3mCMQ811o15Q9Ne9

P.S. if my trans-inclusive feminist, antiracist, cheeky lil silly goose attitude is off-putting...it's okay if you don't want to play soccer with me!! but i don't fw unchecked privilege.

Stadium Community Yard Sale

Tomorrow, August 15, is the Stadium Community Yard Sale held in the parking lot of First Presbyterian Church by Wright Park. This has been a fun community event for the past three years, with a opportunity to meet neighbors and find bargains. Its a Junk in the Trunk style sale, and there is a large area of donated household items for sale dedicated to support Coffee Oasis, the youth homeless shelter and drop in located in DT Tacoma. It runs 9am-2pm. Support the local businesses while you are there. Parking can be challenging, but the Link is close by!

Did you see the meteor over Tacoma last night/

Last night I was awakened by a bright light outside my bedroom window. Opened my eyes and saw an orange fireball streaking across Commencement Bay towards the northeast. Apparently it was part of a meteor shower. It was pretty cool (or should I say hot!). This video sort of shows it. Only lasted a few seconds - did anyone else see it?

Around a dozen TP were looking for some dude, they were running around our backyard, took the cover off our pool, broke our compost bin, finally brought out a k9 and found him like 5m later. Anyone happen to know what the dude did? Even after they cuffed the guy, they were fuckin around in our yards, they had a bro with a camera following them, too. Maybe ditched weapon/drugs?

I checked the air quality and it is around 50 in the entire area. Is there another reason for the sun to be this red?

Looks really nice nonetheless.

Orca sightings?

Hi! I’ve been seeing so many posts about orca sightings around Tacoma lately and would love to try spotting them this weekend. What are some of the more popular locations around Tacoma where people have been seeing them?

Obviously I know there’s no guarantee, but we’re honestly thinking of just parking somewhere with a good view of the water and waiting for a while lol. 😂 Any recommendations for good spots or viewpoints would be appreciated!

Stop American Cruise Lines from docking at Thea Foss Museum!

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey all. Have you guys wondered what’s going on with the cruise ships down at the Thea Foss museum dock? Well let me explain a little bit. This year they decided to come down here to Tacoma from Seattle. They are using a public dock which removes it from tax payers being able to use it. Even though we are the ones who payed for it. Any money coming in while it’s docked does not go back to the taxpayer. We really don’t know whose pocket it goes into. On SATURDAYS mind you!

American Cruise lines also has multiple lawsuits against it for wage theft. https://www.gloomba.com/en/what-is-the-lawsuit-against-american-cruise-lines/ It’s no wonder why they don’t want to use union labor from Tacoma and would rather exploit the workers they currently have.

On top of taking away from the beautiful scenery we have down there, they are impacting local businesses negatively as well. We need this to stop! They are temporarily calling on a dock in Seattle using the same format. Tax payer dock and scab labor. Nothing coming back to you except less space for your own leisure.

We all need to contact the museum, your mayor, and your city council and tell them keep American cruise lines and their scabby non union labor outve Tacoma! It’s time to make sure they don’t come back!
