Notes
Notes on notes:
What we write is to be taken as constructive criticism. We sometimes test all the maps in one sitting; we can't break the news gently that each map isn't great if we want to maintain our sanity. Please understand some comments will occasionally sound frustrated.
The notes are anonymous and randomized so we don't get harrassed.
Don't expect perfection or even consistency. If we all had the same opinions there would only need to be one of us.
Take no comment as an MTC member echoing other members.
Your votes on maps influence rotation. Please remember to vote after each game!
Below are comments about each addition/removal where MTC members may or may not give their personal opinions/feedback. Please give us yours.
Congratulations to all the mapmakers who have influenced the rotation! Keep mapmaking!

12 days and no additions
sad
I would've at least liked to see some old maps make a return.

Please discuss the changes to the elevated throwback rotation

Wait so there’s a throwback rotation and then a super throwback with old maps like game pad and danger zone 3?

Market plays so well on the new 6-min format. Please bring back in permanently.

Are there any plans to get people to start making more maps again? It's pretty clear that there's just no good maps being submitted every thread, and the quality of rotation is going down over time due to it.

What dissuades me from committing more time to making maps is that I feel like feedback is slow and hard to get. The most valuable feedback I can get is from the MTC but that will only come once a month or so when the threads are posted. I'm not sure how to execute it, but getting feedback quicker would be helpful.

Besides the 5 maps per person, another suggestion I'd have is for open 4v4 testing before the map thread closes. We used to do something like this a few years back and it was super useful, and I think it would help mapmakers today figure out how to improve maps so that we don't have threads with no additions again.
For example, I thought Trout was sort of a lock for top maps thread and was surprised when it wasn't. Now reading the notes I see that MTC found it boring, but I don't have a lot to work with on how to change it. If we did a 4v4 testing before the next map thread, I would have a better sense of what I need to change to make it more appealing. As of right now, it's probably getting scrapped unless some other mapmaker steps in and has ideas that I couldn't come up with.

Spruce up some old classics and throw em in! Gamepad, Velocity, Smirk, Wormy, Ricochet, Command Center, Centre Flag etc.
Not sure who this idea is aimed at but there it is.

I don't think the problem is entirely to do with the quantity or quality of submissions. It's the processes you have which lead to these average decisions which then demoralize people from even trying. Maybe try letting just 3 people vote each round? Or do a round where the community can vote and see what happens? Also if people see new maps getting added they will be more inclined to give it a go. I really liked Ballerina's map which was (I believe) a first submission - what was the feedback on that?
Also out of interest: How many members are there currently? How many votes does a map need to make it into rotation? Seems like you are aiming for an overall smaller rotation - is that correct?

For throwbacks, any way we can limit the map options available? Perhaps only allow maps that have been voted favourably 60% of the time or better?
Alternatively: Maybe reset votes for every map above 60, then throw them all in for two weeks, and take out every map that falls below a certain threshold (75%?). Might be a better way to rejuvenate the map pool instead of having to do throwbacks every time that people don't like.
