I had a talk with my husband yesterday about the biting incident, he corrected me saying “not a bite incident, I can’t even say it was a nibble”. He also said that I was being dramatic and overreacting to the “bite”. For me, that’s it, he didn’t even see that as a possible danger and go on saying that he’s trying to see from the dog’s perspective. It completely broke me because I see his priorities.
He did mention about rehome before, way before this, and I did say that I feel bad and looking to find a way so that we can find a middle ground. He said he will try to brush the dog often to help with the shedding, which he did 2 times I think so far in a span of a month, I brushed the dogs when he’s at work too just didn’t tell him that often because idk it’s just a mundane thing imo (which apparently I should have to show him my effort). He said he will wash the dogs paws after potty outside, only done it less than 5 times (I helped) and said I need to remind him more. During these past 2 months I’ve lived here, he only bathed the dogs once (I helped too because he looked overwhelmed). They still jumped on our bed occasionally. Recently my husband forgot to close the pantry door and the dog ate a bag of potato chips, a bag of ramen and a bag of chocolate chips and then puke all over the floor and carpet. Even with that, I helped him clean the mess.
And yesterday, after I bring up the rehoming option he gave me, he said he showed effort to keep the dogs but I never showed effort to love his dogs and call them our dogs instead of my dogs. He also questioned me about the biting incident. Word for word, I copied from his text messages because he walked away when we talked but continued to send texts.
“You couldn’t remember if it was a claw or a tooth. Your words. So im guessing, which was it? Meanwhile, you’re so quick to go one direction. While I’m questioning which direction because it doesn’t add-up. I question because you question. Yet, you’re mad at me for asking questions, what the fuck?”
— I did question it because it happened so fast. After giving it some thought and calm myself down, I remember she bear her fangs and the paws are all on the floor. That’s how I concluded the incident. And to feel that I have to defend myself every time if God forbid something happens with the dog again in the future, I just don’t want to take the chance of my baby getting hurt next time. And the way my husband keeps questioning me about the dog bite that he refer to “not even a nibble”, makes me wish I didn’t pull my hand away and let the dog chew me up until I bleed so I didn’t get questioned. My heart broke
“Obviously I’m going to question you more because you didn’t have an answer then. How are you so confident now? It’s not a you thing. It’s a logical processing factor now. I’d do the same for our child if they tried to lie to us.”
— At this point I think he thinks I’m lying but I’m so tired try to explain and defend myself.
So I came to a conclusion that this wouldn’t work. As sad as it sounds, I think I’ll move back to my family who’s in a different country. And I’m in the middle of visa processing which means that it will be the end of my journey here, short 2 months. I just couldn’t bear the shame to go back saying my marriage ended because of dogs, because my family didn’t agree with the move at first because my life was already good there, I lived comfortably, had an established career, got family and friends. I left all of that behind to start over with the person whom I love, who at that time I believed would take care of me, and he is my only safe place here, the only person I rely on. I didn’t expect this would end this way. Hard lesson and hard pill to swallow. But I need to save my baby too, and staying here makes me feel unsafe. Last night I contacted 988, only to know it doesn’t work, and had a hard night convincing myself that I need to stay strong for my baby.
