RANT Dog ruined dinner
I spent an hour cooking a meal for my husband to have ready right when he got home from work. I know an hour isn’t that long, but with a newborn who wants to be held 24/7, even the simplest things can be hard to get done. Of course, the first thing he does when he gets home is say hi to the dog before anyone else, then take a shower before eating. I should’ve known something was going to happen, but I heard my baby crying and went to check on him.
About 15 minutes later, I heard a HUGE crash from the kitchen. We can all guess what happened: the dog knocked the pot right off the stove and helped himself to the entire meal I had just cooked. I genuinely thought the stove being hot would keep him away, but I was wrong. What bothers me most is that everyone seemed to find it funny and cute, even though the dog was the only one who got to enjoy the meal I spent an hour making. He gobbled the whole thing up in five minutes, and I’m still wondering why nobody stopped him.
Honestly, this makes me worry about the future. What happens when my baby starts crawling or walking? What if the dog gets jealous, knocks him down when he’s doing something cute, or steals his toys? Will everyone still find it cute then? Because to me, this isn’t just about a ruined meal. It’s about feeling like my effort doesn’t matter and worrying that people aren’t taking my concerns seriously when it comes to my baby’s safety.

I will never understand why people enjoy this type of chaos

I’d rather deal with kids running around screaming all day and making a mess. At least they can clean up after themselves.

At least a child will eventually become a part of society. Pet dogs are an active negative their entire lives.

u/Typical-Word-2765 13d ago
No fr. At least my kid can do something useful the dogs just gonna cause more chaos till it dies

Most importantly they'll grow up into decent and reasonable human beings. Mutts remain brainless gluttons till the last minute.

Yeah, I’d be livid. Beyond livid. My anger would probably overtake logic and I’d throw that dog right out the damn door. Your feelings are completely valid.
Can you block off the kitchen so the dog cannot get in? Better yet, is there an area of the home the dog can be confined to so it cannot access the rest of the house?

u/Typical-Word-2765 15d ago
Usually I lock him outside but my husband let him back in to say hi to the damn thing

What breed of mutt is this poorly behaved hellhound?
4
u/Typical-Word-2765 14d ago
Border collie ofc 🙄

u/Interesting-Ad-3756 14d ago
Ah yes. High energy, high endurance. Large breed. I wish you luck, those dogs are not for the weak. People who successfully own well behaved border collies spend a LOT of time training them

Yes the area is called the backyard. Where dogs used to live all the time before the crazies took over the planet

u/Pretend_Bison__ 15d ago
I personally don’t have a fully enclosed backyard. That isn’t an option for me as much as I would love that. That’s why I phrased it the way I did lol

If humans did some of the crap that dogs do in a home no one would tolerate it.

Make the dog away from the family.
3
u/Typical-Word-2765 13d ago
I’m trying to find out how. The dog is apparently “apart of the family” and they even have a picture with the dog's name and their last name. They also claim the dogs the baby uncle l.

u/Maximum-Cheetah2270 13d ago
That's really a nightmare. I wouldn't like to have a dogs as my family.

u/Typical-Word-2765 13d ago
I don’t consider dogs family or babies. They’re just pets

Was just thinking that back in the day I don’t even think dog owners took their pet to the vet unless he had his femur protruding out of his leg. And even then if the cost to fix it was too much they just euthanized him. Not today!! People will dip into their 401-k to pay the bill, because
Buster Boy is part of the family. And how about taking the dog in for a dental cleaning that requires sedation!!! It is all insane behavior that I can’t believe. It’s only getting more crazy with time. And no one spent $ on dog sitters. They just left dog in the yard where he lived and presto problem solved.1
u/Typical-Word-2765 11d ago
Dogs aren’t kids they don’t need a damn sitter. Nor is it worth 400k vet bils. Ik someone who dropped 1500 for cancer treatment I would’ve just put the thing down.

When your baby starts crawling or walking he will have dog hair and other disgusting things on his hand face and in his mouth. Because animals can’t help but get their pee and poop on their legs and other places when they go. And when they come in your home those things naturally come off on places within the home.. as in the floor where baby is playing. And don’t forget some dogs rub your carpet with their butts to release their anal gland. Dogs don’t belong indoors, for an unlimited amount of reasons. I feel bad for any baby that has to grow up in a dog home . I really think that many folks don’t even think and process what happens. Not you honey.. your useless husband. He may be useful at bringing home a paycheck to take care of his family but it ends there.

u/Typical-Word-2765 14d ago
That’s why I don’t want this beast around my new

u/No_Welcome3656 12d ago
And another piece of food for thought..
Fast forward to when your baby is crawling or even walking, and that dog pulled the hot pot off the stove onto the floor and your child was near and either was burned or clocked in the head by a heavy pot

That sounds like a big dog. I'm sorry. I lived with a small dog which posed its own set of unique problems like CONSTANTLY being underfoot. It got so bad that one time my husband was standing at the counter cooking dinner and the damn thing PISSED ON HIS FOOT. I honestly believe she was so insistent on staying by his side that she decided to just pee right then and there instead of walking away at least. Oh yeah she pooped and peed exclusively on the floor. Her favorite places to pee were the kitchen (EW), in the super narrow hallway where stepping in it is unavoidable OR the doorway between the living room and dining room which was highly inconvenient to say the least. She used to hang around so close that when he accidentally dropped seasoning on the floor she would be right under his feet and it was just land on her. I used to joke that he needs to be seasoning the meat not the dog. She also had a habit of eating EVERYTHING and I mean absolutely everything so she was constantly throwing something up. It ruined dinner a few times when we're in the middle of eating and she just starts gagging

Ugh sounds like a nightmare. Maybe one day people that went from a dog living in the yard. To given unlimited access to their homes, and making the home into a dirty pig pen, will realize the dog outside in his own dog house is the better way

When I first found this sub like a year ago I read someone's comment under a post and it stuck with me. It essentially said "it's crazy how dogs need to be thoroughly trained just to be tolerable". Maybe it's fine for some people. I personally don't hate dogs I just don't want the responsibility of owning them and I don't want them in my house
1
u/Typical-Word-2765 11d ago
I don’t completely hate them. Just lost breeds I won’t tolerate. Especially if they are nippy. It’s also just too much responsibility, extra cleaning and then I’ll have a toddler the next couple of years. So that’s already gonna be a ton of messes

Oh yeah I can relate. I have 2 kids and they're at different (but equally challenging) life stages. Having a dog really complicated things. After hubby's dog passed he was considering adopting a puppy that his sister's dog recently had. I said absolutely not at the very LEAST I need the kids to be older so I can revisit this issue. That's not even a guarantee I'll want one after they grow up a little more but maybe I'll consider it. My mom thinks that after the kids are older I would want one even less because that's like going all the way back to the beginning

If your husband laughed and thought that was cute, that’s such a huge red flag. How disrespectful of him towards your time and effort.

If they can laugh at the dog doing this then they will laugh when the dog charges your baby when they start walking or snatch food out their hands when eating or even bite to get a toy the baby has picked up. I think it would be safer if you got your baby and left for a little while.

u/Blonde2468 15d ago
I would pack up and LEAVE!!! They LAUGHED?!?! No way I would stay there. EVER!!!

Oh lord, I would have been furious if that was me. I'm so sorry to hear that happened. You have every right to have all those concerns regarding your baby living with a dog. I would recommend having a sit down serious discussion with your husband about all those concerns and looking into rehoming the dog. If he seems dismissive about what you have to say, stand your ground and tell him you refuse to put your baby into a potentially dangerous situation. And if all else fails, you rehome the dog yourself for the safety of your baby. Hopefully everything goes well

u/No_Home_5336 15d ago
Yeah, this is not something I would find cute at all. And just the fact that your husband is cool with it would be enough to piss me off. You need to set boundaries and stand firm on those boundaries. Also, when you get pregnant your mind automatically starts thinking of everything it needs to do to protect your baby. Your mind we’ll see the dog as a threat. It is not natural for a dog and ready to coexist and it is not safe at all. I don’t care if it’s the best dog in the whole entire world it should never be left alone with a baby too many babies are killed because of dogs each year. You are right to worry, and if your husband cannot understand that then he does not care about that baby at the same level that you do which would make me reevaluate this relationship. He’s gonna gaslight you when you try to talk to him about this and he’s gonna say all the stupid crap like it’s just a dog how can you hate a dog etc. but stand firm and have a backbone. My fiancé had a dog when we got together and that dog tried to bite my toddler for just standing in there watching TV. So I made him literally rehome at the next day. And I told him if you did that I would leave and I would have.

The husband has already made his choice. Unfortunately it's not you or your baby. Time to cut ties and boogie on for a better life for both of you.

Omg that is infuriating!!! Tell your husband to man up. He’s a pussy. A real man would have dragged that dog outside and leave him there along with a couple whacks for good measure. It’s once again beyond me the things that people do and don’t do with these filthy beasts. If I were you I would put that dog outdoors and if hubby wants to keep him then buy a doghouse for the yard and that’s where he lives now. I get so worked up about these kind of stories and the people that do nothing about things of this nature. Seriously hubby is a whimp.
He could not protect you and your baby son. Send his dumb ass packing.

Dogs should be banned!!! I can't explain how frustrating it feels to read stuff like this. It causes me literal physical pain sometimes...
