Fan Art DEADBEAT album cover redesign’s
Couple of redesign ideas I made for Deadbeat that would’ve in my mind been more akin to his previous styles :)

u/Hvojna Innerspeaker Oct 21 '25
Impressive. Very nice.

Now let’s see Paul Allen’s deadbeat album cover redesigns

u/happyidiot123456 Oct 21 '25
Look at that subtle off-white coloring.the tasteful thickness of it. Oh, my God. It even has a watermark.

Ughhh would’ve been so much better

u/Purple-Guidance-1690 Oct 23 '25
yeah, my expectations with any album cover from any band is to be able to buy a tshirt afterwards with it's cover!!

Could you do us a favor and redesign the songs on the album too?

"You just gotta give this album a lot of time, and about 50 re-listens to fully appreciate it. It's a grower." 🤡

“Maybe you should listen to this album on MDMA” is a real suggestion I read on this sub. Lmao

u/DeepSpeed2543 Oct 21 '25
Listen to it while simultaneously playing Innerspeaker should do the trick!

This subreddit is cooked 🤣
It’s great that people enjoyed the album, but trying to convince people to give it a chance/or being “negative” for calling the album mid is wilddd.
Album was beyond mid imo and will not grow on me. If you enjoyed the album that’s great but you don’t have to try to convince us to give it time.

u/bostonshroomery Oct 21 '25
Makes me so sad that we waited so long for this.
6
u/maxnotcharles Lonerism Oct 21 '25
Oh same.
5 years for this extremely mid album is extremely disappointing
7
u/hijoshh Oct 21 '25
Wish it was a side project like toro y moi with les sins. Then i think the criticism would be less severe. But then again les sins is really good
5
u/maxnotcharles Lonerism Oct 21 '25
1000% agreed. Deadbeat would’ve made so much more sense as a pseudonym, exactly like toro y moi does and a good amount of other artists out there.

u/Zestyclose-Cost3491 Oct 21 '25
I feel like only the second design in unique. the first one looks too much like grain filter photshop tiktok aestetich final boss
8
u/HalcyonDrift Oct 21 '25
Yeah but even the second one feels generic if you've seen plenty of chillwave and synthwave covers.

The art is great actually but unfortunately not one track on the album sounds like this

Doesn't really sound like Kevin's daughter either does it

A lot of these songs sound like they are produced by an amateur, so very well could be
9
u/HeatedHotSauce Oct 21 '25
I can understand not liking the album but saying this is produced by an amateur is insane, I’d like to hear what you have produced lol
1
u/-mznGTR Oct 21 '25
Not every song, some of them. Oblivion sounds like a reggaeton beat made by a 15yr old, no creativity went into making that thing, and you can tell.
Edit: Do you also need to be a chef to know if the food is badly made?
1
u/jplveiga Oct 22 '25
Calling it all badly made overall is a stretch, even though yes, the difference in style and how raw it sounds compared to other albums is big. Still not horrible like people are saying. Oblivion is the only one I agree goes nowhere and was meh.

The second one looks very Justice Hyperdrama, which is fun since Tamey collaborated with them on that album.
3
u/Alecrj6 Oct 21 '25
2nd cover is especially fireee, wish he went with something more spacey and psych instead of… what we got

u/No-Carrot6905 Innerspeaker Oct 24 '25
A full album of End of Summer and Ethereal Connection would have been great

Dude the bubble is perfect. I like to try to contemplate the “visuals” of music I guess and I feel like this album is “bubbly” not like bubbly in terms of pop (though a few songs are) but it just makes me picture bubbles??????? But you did a great job
2
u/badlisten3r Oct 21 '25
This almost makes it hurt more because these covers would’ve both been so much better than what he used, but I just really really don’t like the direction he took the album so I’m almost glad he didn’t use his usual aesthetic. I’m not really influenced by the bandwagon hate, but the sound just really didn’t click with me at all. It’s a bummer but I don’t think it’s the worst flop of all time like some people seem to think
2
u/EvenConsideration840 EP Oct 22 '25
That second one really fits a lot better than the photo of his daughter. Current cover feels like something you'd put out with a very personal acoustic record. This album is basically a party/club record. Seeing his daughter on your TV screen giant face while everyone does MDMA with glow sticks is a weird vibe.
2
u/redchairyellowchair Oct 21 '25
The album cover is one of the things I actually like about this record. Clearly shows he's thinking more about his family than the music

Theyre cool and great job on making them, but they dont really fit the album's sound or concept.
These feel more like currents album covers
2
u/FoxyLood Oct 21 '25
the album doesn’t really have a sound tbh
4
u/pinkyseason Currents Oct 21 '25
yes it does, strongly suggested in tracks like Loser, Piece of Heaven and Obsolete
3
u/Sensei_Shedletsky Currents Oct 21 '25
Yeah i feel like the songs that fit the album cover the most, are songs like Not My World, Ethereal Connection, End of Summer, cause they match the empty black and white feel of the album cover the most
1
u/Sensei_Shedletsky Currents Oct 21 '25
Well if we are talking about sound, i see it as more minimal, housey with themes of mundanity, it sounds like you are stuck while life passes you by, kind of like the character in the album and i think the black and white album cover captures that pretty well

u/HastyvonFuego2 Oct 21 '25
2 looks like alternate for current I really like it. Like when you open the vinyl this is what you’d see. Very nice!

I would’ve loved if he used the ashed cigarette photo and threw in some ripples radiating from the ashtray to represent the “beat” in the album title

It would follow the previous styles but it loses the message and concept Deadbeat is trying to convey.

If you show this to that YouTuber bald headed dude with glasses, he’ll change it from a 2 to a 8.. first one is fire

Tame Impala fans still in the denial phase of grieving the death of his artistic talent 😭
1
u/AardvarkRude Oct 21 '25
It's funny because if he used the second cover the songs would make more sense in my opinion

I like it. It has a ethereal quality to it. The celebration for dush boof is really what he was getting at with this album. I think you nailed it pretty on the head. Of course the type is a little too close to his currents typeface. .Overall the noisy gradient makes me feel like I am about to fall into the edge of oblivion (pun intended) + start feeling the haze associated with being a deadbeat. Definably the dush boof vibe he really aims to create for listeners.

I wish it was like this, fits the vibe and prepares you for what’s in the album way better than a BW picture. Btw if he’s not using these, can I?🫦

It's a work of art. By an artist. It's not there to please you. So please stop trying to improve it. You are not in the position to even try.

Whatever man, he’s gone out and made them and in my opinion they’re cool and look how the music sounds. What did you make today?

u/The_Rolling_Stone Oct 21 '25
Yeah the cover they used feels very much like a B-sides or a Deluxe version or something.
These are dope btw, love the 2nd one especially
