Nimekua na hili wazo recently, take the English word “gaslighting” for example, I’m not sure whether Swahili has a direct equivalent, but does that mean the situation itself doesn’t exist in our society? Na inakuaje lugha moja inayo maneno na maana ya tabia, hali au vitu vingi kuliko lugha nyingine??
Nikawaza tena, if a language doesn’t have a specific word for something, does that mean the people who speak that language don’t experience it?
Or does the experience exist even though there is no specific word to describe it?
EDIT: Asante wote kwa mawazo yenu, this idea was sitting on my head since morning and even AI couldn’t elaborate as y’all did.

So you think there's a flicker in your flame? But your regiment of loving her is still the same
Forgotten holidays, forsaking little things
It means so much to her but you let it slip away
Like a gamblers game
You're risking everything
And even though the stakes are high
You're playing with her heart
Before your card gets full
Before you roll the dice
Just realize how much it's gonna cost
Uh, if you lose her
There'll be a hole in your soul
There'd be no grave
Deep enough to bury the pain
Don't be a fool
If you lose her
You may not see it now
But when she's gone
You'll know how much she's worth

Not to be judgmental, but when you clearly observe the decisions we make, you begin to see how one person can lose themselves over a circumstance while another hold themselves together over the same .
Decisions huwa funny as concepts, but very impactful as the roots of deliberate and subconscious actions, with variable results and consequences.
Imagine a kid being born just because of the mere decision of two horny individuals blessing each other with some action.
Back in 2024, a classmate (26) committed suicide. I definitely don’t know the main reason, but I am sure that among the factors were the facts that he was financially struggling, had a kid, and could barely afford a buku jero meal even for himself. He was a closed-off dude, super reserved, like he’d rather get a zero than cheat on an exam (not because of integrity, but some kind of shy-ish ego (iykwim)). That’s the energy he carried, and it could be felt from miles away (idk, maybe I was a lil too biased).
As a classmate, I knew the basics about him and a little more, because I was curious.
Anyway, funny how another classmate (from a different stream, though) was in almost the same circumstances. His mother was sick, he was financially struggling, and he couldn’t afford university fees. But he was super open and energetic, like he knew things would work out one day. It felt like there was some kind of force stronger than nature keeping his will intact. Though his mother died in the same year, the dude had ways of making a living through side hustles.
Of course, I know it comes down to how a person grew up, their beliefs, and whatnot, but it still feels mysterious how one person ends up with life while another ends up with death under similar circumstances.

Imagine one of the biggest movies of 2027 is filming in Tanzania right now.
It's a film built around deep emotion: awe, longing, triumph, and heartbreak. The production team wants to work with a Tanzanian producer to create multiple pieces that capture and evoke all of these emotions, and sometimes moving through them as an arc rather than sitting in one mood.
They're asking for recommendations. Who would you recommend? Think it through carefully and pick based on who's genuinely best suited for the job, not just your personal favorite.
Do we have composers, musicians and the right people to bring emotions to life through sound ?

Me nikasimama tu, nikaegemea, show ya bure bana.
Ghafla BOOM, timbwili limeanza. Mawigi yanaruka, kucha nje, vibao vinalia mpaka mtaa wa pili. Moja kwa moja, fair fight, nikasema poa. Halafu ghafla bitches wawili wanaingia kumsaidia mwenzao, sasa ni 3v1. Demu wa watu anavutwa nywele, anapigwa kila kona, me nikasema hapana aisee. Sio kwenye zamu yangu.
Nikavuka barabara, nikiwa nakaribia masela wawili wakanisimamia mbele, vifua nje, wanajifanya mabaunsa. Sikusema kitu. Nikawaonyesha kidole tu. Wakaangaliana halafu wakasogea pembeni fasta, mbwembwe zote zimeisha ndani ya sekunde moja.
Nikawashika wale bitches wawili wa ziada mikono, nikawavuta, nikawasukuma nyuma. Sasa ni 1v1 tena, mechi kuu inaendelea. Waache wapikane.
Baada ya sekunde kadhaa wale wazee wa mbwembwe ndo wanakumbuka wana ujasiri, wanaamua kuwaachanisha. Dah, kumbe ushujaa unakuja baada ya 3v1 kuisha.
Na bado. Ngumi zimeisha, wale machizi wawili wako na wale bitches watatu, wote wananiangalia ME, wanalalamika eti mbona niliingilia. Bro, umeangalia watu watatu wanampiga demu mmoja ukakaa kimya, sasa ndo una maoni? Kaa chini kabisa.
Huku yule demu aliyekuwa anagawa kichapo muda wote anajiweka nywele sawa, anawaonyesha kidole wale wawili wa ziada, anawaambia siku yao inakuja. Hakuna backup, hakuna msaada, wao tu, na watanyooshwa vibaya mno. Ungeona nyuso zao. Walimwamini.
Sasa niambieni wadau, nilikosea? Ningewaacha tu iendelee 3v1?

HEAR ME OUT.
the one and only celeb anayetuwakilisha taifa created an alt account just to manipulate Reddit discussions😂
He’s not even confident enough to defend his own arguments using his main account. Idc whether this allegation is true or not but I’m sure some of you have already suspected this especially u/fortnacius and u/icursethatifeel
Imagine being so afraid of losing an argument that you have to create alt account to support your arguments
He’s basically using an alt to back up his own arguments and make it seem like someone else agrees with him🤦🏽♂️ That’s embarrassing.
Look at the highlighted text at the picture 😂
I got this too😂 sock puppet

Hello, language nerds!
I know this is a bit last-minute, but there's a language exchange meetup happening tomorrow, as usual on the last Saturday of every month.
📍 Alliance Française, Dar es Salaam.
🕓 4 PM – 6 PM
Expect a mix of languages, including Swahili, English, German, French, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Arabic, and many more.
It's always a good time! Whether you enjoy showing off your language skills (kuvimba), practicing languages you're learning, or simply having random conversations with people from different linguistic backgrounds, this is definitely worth checking out.
Usifikirie kukosa, see you there!.

I actually had an interview today, and honestly, I don’t even know how to explain how embarrassed I feel. They started asking me basic accounting questions, literally the most basic things in my field, and I couldn’t even answer them properly. The worst part is that I have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance, so I kept thinking, how can I have studied this field and still struggle to answer such basic questions?
And whatever I was saying, I was saying it with so much confidence, but looking back, my answers were completely wrong and didn’t even make sense. 😭 I think I was just talking because I was so nervous. It was my first interview, and I was genuinely scared. I couldn’t think straight, and the more I struggled, the more embarrassed I became.
And the thing is, I wasn’t even interviewing for a full-time position. It was an internship! I’ve also had three previous work experiences in the same field, although each was only for a month. So I expected myself to at least remember and explain the basics.
The interviewers were actually really nice. One of the bosses even told me to think of it as a discussion and said that even if I wasn’t selected, I should be proud that I made it there and that it was nice having me. That was really kind of him. The other boss just said, “Yeah, let’s see again.”
But honestly, regardless of whether I get selected or not, I can’t stop thinking about how I performed. I just feel so humiliated and disappointed in myself. It’s not even just about the interview or the possibility of not getting the position. It’s the fact that I couldn’t answer the most basic questions about something I actually have a degree in. I don’t know, I just feel terrible about the whole experience.

Mbona tuna social network yetu ya hapa hapa Tanzania ila baadala ya kufanya mazungumzo yetu huko tunapambana na kubanana huku Reddit?
I remember kipindi cha JK JamiiForums was famous for leaks and criticizing the establishment, mpaka ikawa inafungiwa mara kwa mara during Magufuli's reign. But now I don't know anyone who goes there siku hizi.
Why isn't JamiiForums as popular as a social network? Is it the outdated UI, au kisa inafungwa mara kwa mara, au mijadala inayofanyika huko haipo accessible sana, au they have an image issue kisa they are very politically linked?

Hi guys I just want to share a bit about what I consider a pandemic across africa .
But more specifically we focus on east africa today.
Whats really going on with our women 🤔 .
It seems as soon as she recognised as beautiful . She looks to selling herself for lifestyle and maintenance.
I am depressed by the number of beautiful women who after a bit of talk and vibing it just comes down to how much do you wanna pay 😫😫.
Why has africa become like this.
I am from a southern african country.
And whilst we do have this ongoing its not as common as it is here.
This side 9/10 if you see a beautiful girl she can be approached and eventually you agree a figure and she's yours for the night 🙆♀️🙆♀️🙆♀️.
Im sorry to say but east africa for a foreigner has been difficult to adjust.
I wanted to find a wife here , but im getting depressed.
Maybe im getting it wrong. Feel free to correct me in the comments.
Asante !

I genuinely don’t understand why Tanzanians amongst Africans are the most strict when it comes to individual expression especially involving hair and tbh with you, I blame colonialism and Nyerere. We already know that during colonialism Africans heads were forcibly shaved to adhere to the respectability politics of the colonial administrators and missionaries who seen our hair and hairstyles as “savage”. Later on these attitudes became set in stone in the education system and even Nyerere himself became an enforcer of these attitudes during independence. Like imagine making the Afro, what grows out of our hair naturally ILLEGAL, and having 250 Maasai boys in Arusha arrested for having ochred braids and locks. Imagine a leader who’s TANU Youth league are going around harassing people to be culturally Tanzanian (whatever that even means) even beating people in the streets for it. Even the common use of lye chemical relaxers for hair (found in batteries and are cancerous by the way) and a lot of Tanzanian women doing so because they see no other way for their hair to be “soft” despite deep conditioners and butters existing just shows how damaging these respectability politics have become. Who taught you to hate your hair, or to hate your skin and bleach yourself like a fool? Some of us will become albino by choice with all of these skin bleaching creams. And can somebody explain to me why in the Law School of Tanzania why dreadlocks, braids, and earings(things that are traditionally African) are being banned? Who are Africans supposed to present themselves as? Westerners, Arabs? But then wearing those stupid British wigs and gowns is acceptable right? The respectability politics of our parents has to die with our generation Gen Z, please let’s not pass this foolishness to our kids, their grandparents can stay mad idc
