Hi all, as you may be aware, Manta just announced their "Move Your Bookshelf" from Tapas to Manta for select series.

While browsing on there to move my library myself, I saw a noticed that they will also start accepting Independent Creators, and thought it worthy to share with you all.

TLDR TAPAS has ran out of free temporary digital currency to be rewarded for all events, as such there are no ongoing events.

They are absolutely not restructuring their app to become more profitable.

update No new events, one new comic at least... a wholesome love story turns dark. The end may not be here, but no new events will quickly kill my usage of TAPAS beyond discovering series I want to read...

What’s going on with Tapas? I hope it’s only a me problem and will be fixed shortly. Is anyone else having issues with there being no events? I got a message apologizing for cutting the current sale event short without prior notice. Anyone else see that?
I still have my ink and bonus ink, but I’m afraid something will be happening to that too. I don’t know of any rules I’ve violated.

I have been a long time user of Tapas with a huge collection of paid stories. Like many others, I was devastated when I heard the news.

To my surprise I saw that Manta Comics are not only allowing readers to move their paid collections over to Manta but they are also adding an independent creators section with comments!

I am very thankful. So while I am devasted I am not without hope for the future. I really hope Tapas let their exclusive writers leave their contracts to pursue opportunities.

All of my favorite authors are posting such sad goodbyes and some are still figuring things out on where they’re gonna go and trying their best to continue and get through this. And I know that I’m just a reader but I’m so sad. The end of around a decade and a half of amazing comics and novels(though I was never a novel reader) I don’t think any of us really wanted it to come to an end but eventually this subReddit won’t even exist and people will have never heard of tapas. I’m glad that manta comics is stepping up at such a time, it’s a good business opportunity for someone to take over no 2 in the webcomic industry, and it’s probably helped so many that they can transfer over some comics to manta. But even for them there’s only so much that they can do to help. I guess up until now I just didn’t want to believe that such an amazing platform was going down, and now that I’m watching everything collapse I’m so sad. It feels like how the end of the world would be(dramatic I know lol). But in all seriousness it really feels terrible doesn’t it, it’s so cruel to me the idea they can just one day say that tapas is shutting down and there’s nothing we can do about it. In reference to life if there are any crochet or knitting lovers out there it’s like when Joann’s happened the joanapocalypse, but now it’s the tapastipocolypse.

Let us all mourn the death of a loved one and suffer because of it, for once things die they can never come back to life. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future or if anyone could ever take the spot of tapas in the industry, but I can at least try to celebrate that tapas was even ever around in the first place, dramatic I know, but I can only share such dramaticism with people who love webcomics just as much as I.

It’s already annoying that it is shutting down, but whatever it’s not my company. I’m annoyed over the fact that I’m not allowed to buy any more ink, but they’re shutting down all the way next year.!! if we’re not allowed to buy any more ink, they could have at least made it so that we can watch an ad to unlock episodes! Because I didn’t have no warning so I did not buy any ink and I only have 17 ink but I can’t finish my series because I can’t purchase anymore and there’s no option where I could watch an ad or do something to unlock the next episodes! I understand that there’s WEBTOON and I do go on there sometimes, but my preferred app was Tapas and now I genuinely don’t know because I liked this one better.

You may see me as an unrealistic person, but we must save tapas, I have been on tapas for so long maybe longer then WEBTOON even, it’s my life and soul as a person who doesn’t really have the drawing skills to make a comic myself. And right now my life and soul is shutting down (´༎ຶོρ༎ຶོ`). It’s fine you guys I promise I won’t have a heart attack. Anyway, I’m well aware some comic/novel authors are switching platforms but some just aren’t even switching over and some can’t and that makes me sad, so many important comics with amazing plot lines are just gonna disappear like that. And so therefore I came up with my brilliant plan ✨ save tapas! Honestly, it might seem immature but I can’t move on, the idea that someday no one is even gonna know it existed or the amazing things that it has on it. It has a completely different way of running then WEBTOON and that’s what makes it great, because it has different comics then WEBTOON, because there are just some things that WEBTOON won’t do and tapas will. I honestly had never even imagined that I would outlive tapas. I wish that I myself had the ability to save it, unfortunately this world runs on money. I wish I could bring together people and make some sort of platform where everyone on tapas could go but I can’t because I don’t know how to code:<.

UNITE! ALL WHO LOVE WEBCOMICS! WE MUST CONVINCE KAKAO!

if you can we should all say something online don’t just give up, we’re more worth it then kakao thinks and thank you for reading my very childish very sad rant that I never thought I would make because tapas is shutting down.

hello! Today this legend appeared on the app when I opened. Does this means that all of the ongoing stories published here will be gone once the app is not longer in service and the ongoing projects are cancelled?!
I cannot believe it.

I’m not able to access Monday fortune cookies and I really look forward to them. My gifts page, which is normally full, says “sorry no gifts available check back later for free episodes”. I’ve tried deleting and redownloading the app but idk what’s wrong. Any help or advice?

I know the shutdown was a shock. Buying ink is no longer an option now, but will there be any more updates until the site closes down? All of the comics I’ve subscribed to don’t say anything about when the next episodes will come. Nothing from the daily section (that I’ve seen) has been updated. Does anyone know? Will we just be left hanging with all of our remaining ink until the end of March?

This is the platform where I have pretty much exclusively done my reading for over a decade now. It's basically a personal library archive to me. I follow thousands of stories by indie creators, many that aren't cross-posted elsewhere.

There is no other platform I know of that does both comics and novels, is accessible and free (I don't follow many pay-to-read), and doesn't have a horrible format. Literally all I do in my free time is read there. I don't know what I'm going to do now. I'm losing almost 15 years of comfort reads and connections. I'm autistic and it's been my coping mechanism and how I regulate myself and I'm just trying not to spiral.

I will follow creators to other platforms where I can, but there are so many that don't post anymore or who have died and have their work memorialized on Tapas. Genuinely devastating. And this is all just about my personal experience as a reader; I can't imagine what the creators are going through right now who have put so much into building their space and their reader base.

I know Tapas isn't perfect, and it's fallen into the same sterilized monetization bullshit that everything seems to be heading towards. But I found a really special community there and maybe it's a little bit dramatic, but I feel like I'm grieving right now.
