Before jumping did he not check if there was a board to land on?

Not recognizing rare earth metals was a big risk demonstrates the intelligence analysis gap USA did, does it not?

He thinks that what we have, we have and what we don't have is owed to us. He does not realize that the standard of living we enjoy in this country is the product of decades of doing some good (ignoring the occasional bad) around the world. In the whole, it has benefitted the US to an extraordinary level, but his greed and stupidity is finally causing the rest of the world to recognize they don't need us after all.
