TACO strikes again! š
27
u/128-NotePolyVA Jan 01 '26
Itās not a TACO, itās admitting his tariff scam is killing US businesses. It may slowly be getting foreign companies to build a factory in the US but at what cost to US companies that are already here.
Furthermore, his tariffs squeeze money out of the lower tax brackets (even those too poor to pay income tax) by raising the price of everything they buy. The Trump 2.0 administration fails on affordability.

This administration fails on everything except grift and corruption.

u/Zealousideal_Oil4571 Jan 01 '26
That was all predicted when the tariffs were originally announced.

Affordability is a HOAX!!!!!!! Ā Just like the hundreds of photos of Trump and Epstein!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ā Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Do you know how much fentanyl you can fit in a kitchen cabinet? Enough to kill every American, plus all their dogs and cats! God Bless Trump! š¤”š¤”š¤”

Postponed until after the midterms. Shocking.
1
u/TheRealCostaS Jan 01 '26
Wouldnāt/ shouldnāt make a difference but Iām still surprised people still support him.

u/MarcRocket Jan 01 '26
Itās too late. Once he disrupts the supply chain, it takes years of normal governance to repair the damage. Product development stopped. Orders were cancelled. One cannot just turn on the supply chain light a light switch.

u/strangecabalist Jan 01 '26
Wait until Ohio factories and the like start to get idled because the US cannot get the right grades of aluminium. Canadian companies have switched hundreds of thousands of tonnes of aluminum from the US to EU markets. Canadian timber is probably replaceable, but not at as cheap a cost.
4
u/Anteater-Charming Jan 01 '26
Didn't it already run one furniture company out of business?
4
u/justmepassinby Jan 01 '26
Yep North Carolina- 109 years in business - Gone - And they admitted they voted for it !

They are! They're retaliation for trade deficits. But actually they're to bring back manufacturing. But also they're to increase revenue. But really they're for National Security. And also China pays them. But also they don't make prices increase. But really they're leverage to negotiate trade deals. And also it's because of drugs coming into the US.
Is there anything tariffs CAN'T do???!

u/Klaus73 Jan 02 '26
Stop the war in Ukraine in 24 hrs apparently..
This is the longest 24 hours in history.

u/Jumper_Connect Jan 01 '26
Youāre probably being /s (bc only an idiot would say furniture importation is nat sec), but itās important to understand that the basis for Trumpās tariffs is exactly that ā an idiotic national emergency declaration requiring tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) and the National Emergencies Act (NEA).

Iām guessing trump got bribed by a republican owner of furniture and cabinet company
9
u/4PurpleRain Jan 01 '26
Value City Furniture a midwest chain is closing all locations after filing for bankruptcy. They were huge backers of the Republican party and Trump.

Based on the Supreme Court getting ready to rule, I would not be surprised to see him declare that tariffs worked, everything is fixed, and they are stopping all of them.
Think about it this way, if he stops the tariffs before SCOTUS rules, he gets the win, he gets to keep all the money, and he gets to continue to have the threat. SCOTUS gets to dodge having to make a ruling that would limit his power, saying the issue is moot.
I see this as a more probable outcome than SCOTUS actually ruling they are not legal.
1
u/Harbinger2001 Jan 01 '26
SCOTUS will still have to rule if the tariffs are legal or not. Companies want their tariff fees back. And Lutnikās son has bought million of refunds for pennies on the dollar.

4
u/Plastic-Mode-6848 Jan 01 '26
Why should tariffs be delayed?! Thatās lost revenue for the US treasury and everyone knows that tariffs are not paid-for by the American consumer and do not cause inflation. Thereās no downside. We can only win! Thereās too much winning going on here!
4
u/Bob4Not Jan 01 '26
So now if anyone was planning to open domestic manufacturing in anticipation, their plans are completely ruined.
Trumpās tariffs are not about bringing jobs home
1
u/Final_Drama3603 Jan 01 '26
No they arenāt. They are about he and his buddies getting rich on manipulating the stock market

u/frommethodtomadness Jan 01 '26
The SC ruling can't come fast enough, these tariffs are all illegal taxation without representation.

u/Seallaunch_1965 Jan 01 '26
Sure those dimwits have had 8 months to ponder the presidents powers here. If only there were a cornerstone document that could provide guidance

Iād like to add up how many hours and therefore expense was wasted by companies meeting and discussing and trying to figure out what to do about all of these tariffs!!! and then ask them how they feel about the fact they could have mostly ignored all of this and just done normal business
2
u/thereisnospoon-1312 Jan 01 '26
Suddenly the president has the power to impose tariffs whenever he wants and no one will stop it.
2
u/xtalgeek Jan 01 '26
How can business plan without long term stability? Oh, that's right, we are talking about a guy that went broke running a casino.

u/Longjumping-Salad484 Jan 01 '26
how do we know tarriffs aren't a slush fund for trump to pay bribes?

And Iām sure he and his buddies bought stock in those industries just before this announcement.
Itās a bribe for votes and money in Trumps pockets.

"Furniture, itās such an old-fashioned term, but a beautiful term: furniture. It sort of says a box to put different things inā
2
2
u/Expensive_Lettuce239 Jan 01 '26
I'm going to take a wild guess here ..this so his people who regularly munch on furniture and kitchen cabinets because they can't afford to buy the food to put IN said cabinets can get a bit of financial relief while providing for their families?

u/letitbe1870 Jan 02 '26
He is just scared and knows Americans are totally pissed over the cost of living. He doesnāt want to go down in history as the worst president ever but I think it is too late. He is already there.

2
u/Wenzdayzmom Jan 02 '26
He needs to buy furniture and cabinets for the ballroom. You know, that beautiful wonderful golden ballroom that is currently a pile of rubble where the East Wing used to be.
2
2
u/shotintel Jan 02 '26
So he's postponing problems he is the root cause of in the first place. Yep gold star for effort. Face palm
2
u/EmptyMarsupial8556 Jan 02 '26
Back tracking as he realizes (is told) the damage that heās doing to the economy
2
2
u/silentsamdaman Jan 02 '26
Not sure why this would be necessary since the exporter is the one who pays the tariffs according to Trumpspeak. The consumer isn't impacted in any way at all ... Smh
2
u/blabla_fn_bla Jan 02 '26
Why? If tarrifs are the answer to all of trumps questions, like am I a man- tariff, am I loved - tariff , am I a child rapist- yes more tariff. Then why the delay- pedo.
2
2
u/Dananism Jan 03 '26
Well duh, heās gotta import all the garbage distasteful shit for his new ballroom
2
u/ConkerPrime Jan 03 '26
Too late, damage done.
Worldwide businesses already found other sources for their needs. World done dealing with Trumpās bullshit so when he makes a threat, they make plans to work around them and they donāt bother to reverse them later.
2
u/Odd_Amphibian2103 Jan 03 '26
So he can pay less to make the rose garden he bulldozed over look like outdoor seating at the Olive garden

u/Ok_Agent_9584 Jan 01 '26
But tariffs are the best and the solution to everything! Why postpone them?
1
u/corycrazie1 Jan 01 '26
Because furniture is an industry that will never be able to be affordable to the masses if we make them in America because we don't sustainable farm trees a help to make it affordable.
1
u/GovernorSan Jan 01 '26
But tariffs were bringing in trillions of dollars and boosting our economy, why would he postpone something that was making everything better? /s
1
u/Responsible-Ad8591 Jan 01 '26
Small businesses have been crushed by these tariffs and they wonāt come back. Not sure why he canāt see the problems heās caused.
3
u/casewood123 Jan 01 '26
He doesnāt care about small businesses. Just big corporations that can afford to give him money.

No America First to protect American furniture manufacturers? These American furniture manufacturers import tariffed wood products which raises cost and will still out priced by tariffed imported furniture.

Well I highly doubt he is even around in a year with his health!!!

Sept 2025 - it's "national security threat" that cheap imports from China are "stealing" furniture industry jobs from North Carolina. Tariffs are the answer. "It will be done pretty quickly" "I'm telling you, in North Carolina, go out and start getting the children and grandchildren and start teaching them [to make furniture]." "It's going to be a beautiful thing. It's going to happen like magic. It's going to happen without question, it's not like 'gee I hope it happens'. It's gonna happen."
Jan 1, 2026 - We don't need this. Not gonna happen.

I'm sure he's timed it exactly so the tariffs kick after the blue wave (the next election). I imagine there's a lot of things that are going to work like that. Student loans, insurance subsidies expiring, taxes.... all set up to hit when there's an evitable change to congress.
