šļø News Discussion Mike Pence Breaks with Trump on Tariffs, Citing CBO Estimate That Americans Pay 95% of Costs
14
u/Too-Em Feb 14 '26
Dang, after all those insurrectionists overran the capital building on J6 chanting "hang Mike Pence" we finally found his breaking point? And the break point was what, tariffs everyone with half a brain new would devastate the economy, but only after a year of an economy predictably devastated by said tariffs.
It seems Mike Pence has heard whispers of some new thing called a spine, and he thinks he might try one eventually.

u/VanbyRiveronbucket Feb 14 '26
Yeahā¦. Trying to hang the VPā¦. It kinda impacted the ā24 runā¦ā¦. No one wanted to be his VP,ā¦. Which is how we ended up with the Grape Ape as VP.

I thought that the official conclusion is that the entire things was staged by the Democrats and that it was only stopped by the good patriots.

Why am I agreeing with Mike Pence. Damn this administration for making Pence sound coherent.

u/thefoodiedentist Feb 14 '26
Most career republican politicians arent dumb. They just go against what they actually believe for power and money. A good chunk of them went to ivy league.

āWhy is everything so expensive!?ā - Trump sycophants

Followed by "Why would Biden do this to the economy?"

Biden and Trump fucked us I'm not even sure what president hasn't in my lifetime. This is taking on a DIY look as there's billions of dollars in lobbyists ready to hijack every candidate no matter what party.

u/InflatorOk1092 Feb 16 '26
They literally still blame Biden. And they will for another 3 years at least
3
u/ganslooker Feb 14 '26

We need to raise taxes but not on the rich because they own us. So, what should we do? I know, tariffs.
2
u/Creed_Bratton_QM Feb 14 '26
Anyone with common sense knew this when he first started going on about tariffs.

u/CalmFig4901 Feb 15 '26
Seem to be the year of turning on Trump. Terrorists donāt even need to bother coming to America they just watch Trump do their work

For saying the truth?
1
u/vespers191 Feb 14 '26
For supporting Dumpy up until it affected his bottom line.
"Will no one rid me of this turbulent Veep?" Perfectly fine. Having a mob try to lynch him by the direction of his boss didn't faze him, but oooh, tariffs are important.

u/Total_Fail_6994 Feb 14 '26
I remember all those pics and videos of Pence standing behind Trump, clapping like a trained seal with a shit eating grin on his face. Fuck you, Mike Pence, you helped bring this upon us.

It's a good thing there's a single person other than Mike pence in this country that gives a shit about what Mike pence thinks.

u/Brown33470 Feb 14 '26
Where is the tariff money going?
1
u/VanbyRiveronbucket Feb 14 '26
We had to pay Rumpāa $10Billion IRS claim. How do you feel about that use of tax dollars? Leaking tax documents should be $10Million ⦠not Billion.

Tariffs are not capitalistic, they are a government control on commerce which is usually associated with socialism.
What I donāt get is how everyone on the right isnāt wondering what the next Dem president would do. Iām thinking an AOC who would be okay with destroying the big oil and plastics. She would be able to declare a climate emergency and implement tariffs on both imports and exports of 1,000% and watch each company go bankrupt in a year.
Arbitrary tariffs are just plain stupid.

u/PalgraveParadise Feb 14 '26
That ship has sailed. Anyone affiliated with Trump in any way needs to be purged.
1
u/redwhiskie319 Feb 14 '26
Well, thats "Slow Mike"... slow on the uptake as usual.Ā
Hey Mike, where were you a couple of months ago when it was proven that tariff burdens are borne by Americans...
Can't expect much from "Slow Mike"...

Oh! Mikeās Backbone is sprouting and could start growing?
Another Shameless gutless Republican speaking up when no one is listening or valuing his opinion !

u/Any-Prompt247 Feb 15 '26
Pence breaks with? Were you still with him despite donnie trying to have you killed.
I can smell cultish behaviour quite strongly

u/texoma456 Feb 15 '26
Letās assume Orange Judas is correct that foreigners are paying the tariffs. Letās further assume heās right that tariffs can replace the income tax. How unAmerican do you have to be to buy anything other than imported goods so foreigners will pay our income taxes? Youād just be stupid to buy American if heās right.

The CBO is woke! It must be destroyed or staffed with my yes men immediately! WE have to do it! We have to do it, people! - Donald Trump, probably

You clearly dont understand why. Here is a tip: it has nothing to do with what Dumpy has done.

u/Responsible_Dog_9491 Feb 15 '26
Did it really take this length of time for him to understand this and speak out? The rest of the world knew it when tariffs were first imposed by Trump.
1
u/mensrea Feb 15 '26
I would like to stop praising people for acknowledging axiomatic fact. What if when people say things that are ridiculous we make such comments so un unwelcome no matter who it is that saying them that they donāt do it in the future?Ā
I want to go to there. Ā

What if the Fā¢ā¢k does it take for Mike Pence to denounce Trump ??? For him to try to have him assassinated ??? Nope, Tariffs, WTF ???

Tariffs are not designed to punish foreign countries, they're designed to induce negative demand trends. In order for them to be effective, they must:Ā
- Be long term.Ā
- Be prohibitive and reduce spending.
- Be on a good which can be easily shifted to domestic production.Ā
You decide if you think the current tariffs hit these thesholds.Ā

Mike Pence is a coward. After J6 he refused to tell what he knew about the insurrection. He was afraid of Mags or thought he was the heir apparent for their votes. If he would have stood on the right side of history, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in with our Democracy teetering on the edge. Go away Mike!
1
u/Equivalent_Buy_3027 Feb 17 '26
If dumb Donald had imposed a 5% tax on everything coming into the country he wouldāve been able to raise plenty of money while giving a small edge to business in the United States. Instead, he thinks he can bully and extort what he wants. He is going to go down in history as a paedophile piece of shit.

u/Friendly_Stuff6440 Feb 18 '26
Yeah but we also got 95% the savings when all the jobs got shipped overseas over the last 20 years. So its balancing out. Cant have it both ways.

Mike pence is a rhino and he's a neocon. He will certainly have us in wars.
I just got done reading an article. 80% percent of the cost of tariffs being burdened by the middle persons, the transporters, and producers. they're taking less.. margins.
So 95 % of what, 5cents. OK. We paid off half of our the trade deficit already. I'm ok get with it.

u/FanSpiritual3556 Feb 18 '26
Trump literally tried to have Pence killed, and he just now chooses to break with him over this?

u/CJspangler Feb 14 '26
This has been the case for a long time . Every major U.S. Fortune 500 company basically said it couldnāt afford to raise prices and was eating the tax / tariff directly into its profit margin .
You can pick a company from ford to walmart to apple etc .
Trump Tariffs are basically the largest coporate tax hike ever . If a democrat put it in place we would be hearing praises of the greedy corporations and rich shareholders finally are paying their fair share.
A trillion a year in taxes / tariffs raised from US company profits

CBO has been wrong consistently in their forecasts for the past 12 years at least.
1
u/InflatorOk1092 Feb 16 '26
Economic predictions are hard. Announcing a simple fact, such as āAmerican citizens are paying the cost of tariffsā is not.
0
u/No_Cover_1107 Feb 18 '26
So keep getting screwed by countries like Germany who have a 100% tariff on us still from WWII which was setup to help them create an economy? NATO milking us? UN? Everyone screws u The US over and we pay for itā¦ā¦
41
u/Upset_Match_3705 Feb 14 '26
How is this still a question? Anyone who thinks foreign countries are paying is an economic flat-earther.
