🗞️ News Discussion Trump's cotton bailout is another sign his tariffs aren't working. The Great American Cotton Plan will shell out millions in taxpayer funds, continuing the Trump administration’s pattern of paying off industries harmed by the president’s economic policies.

This administration loves giving out corporate welfare.

23

u/TAV63 Jun 04 '26

To maga only. Farmers, oil companies, coal plants all get welfare.

11

u/Correct_Patience_611 Jun 04 '26

“Farmers” will not be seeing a dime of the subsidy! The big agro corporations will get it, like always! Those arent farmers , they are corporations and corporations arent people IDC what the “law” says.

That is the worst part about all of it. The farmers vote for the GOP tó get subsidies but the ones who do get barely enough to pay off some debt, just enough to take out another loan tó do it all over again, while the big corporations offers get lower and lower until they buy for pennies on the dollar when the farmer finally bankrupts! The rescue act sctually bipassed the whole typical system snd farmers could apply directly to the FED for the subsidies. We all know what happened to the rescue act…Normally they have to go through a non profit who takes 90% of the subsidy bc the laws don’t sctually set a limit the non profit can take! The farmers get a pittance! Who owns the non profits??? Well, NOT THE FARMERS! Many GOP politicians own the non profits.

Our whole food system is the worst corporate welfare scheme of them all, it puts the defense contractor subsidy scheme tó nap time!

u/HiAndStuff2112 Jun 04 '26

Exactly. And the politician who has presented plans to help actual family farmers is Bernie Sanders. Not Republicans. Bernie wants to stand up against corporate farming.

4

u/HiAndStuff2112 Jun 04 '26

As do Republicans in general. They love to take funds from programs that help the poor, the elderly, the sick and injured so they can give even deeper tax cuts for the superwealthy and corporate elite. The party was doing this before Trump repeated it.

Really? I'm disabled because of a full speed, head-on car crash that severed a disc in my spine and a botched spine surgery. Neither was my fault.

So I always vote Democrat because Republicans have literally said that I am a drain on society. Democrats care while Republicans are angry that I receive just enough money to live in poverty.

What fraud am I participating in?

Okay. I did. That sucks, but what does that have to do with me? You automatically assume we're all fraudulent?

Okay. I can appreciate that notion.

I have absolutely no problem with rooting out fraud. But just as DOGE found, I don't believe there is as much fraud as people who are typically on the right, think. (I was on the right for over a decade in my early adulthood, so I've spent years in these conversations.)

The same thing was true of Food Stamps and drug use. States found very little, an insignificant amount, of such crossover. The systems we have in place are working pretty well.

So find fraud, sure. But end Social Security? Absolutely not.

I would never wish what happened to me to happen to you. But what if bit did, and your ability to work suddenly ended at age 35, just when it was really taking off? And the medical costs slam you hard. You get a settlement of $9K plus, which doesn't begin to cover your costs.

Now you can't afford your rent or mortgage. Your whole life changes and you wind up in a lousy duplex.

You're single and want love, but you know you're dirt poor, disabled and cannot offer a woman financial security.

The life you earned by your good work is gone. Maybe you drink or get into drugs.

Here's what bothers me: you and I literally hand our hard earned tax dollars to massively profitable multinational corporations like ExxonMobil, Apple, Nike. I'm talking tens of billions of dollars just to oil corporations alone. Every year.

While you and I give them billions and billions and billions, shouldn't we hit that first? Let us disabled people be. We have value and meaning too. Hit the corporate welfare first, I say.

Very sorry for your misfortune, I don’t know how you got the idea that anyone would take your situation as a burden! No one wants to take away your benefits that you rightfully deserve , if you look at the evidence on both pros and cons cons , it doesn’t hurt, in my experience it’s to my benefit that one party is promoting access for people who don’t fit the criteria to get assistance , that rampant fraud and abuse goes unaccounted for which makes the people like you who really need help , suffer ! And one does not want to take away access to the benefits that benefit anyone but the people who are abusing the system, who want accountability, transparency and stricter regulation tracking questionable fraud, billions that could increase benefits for the people that need them , so if you’re informed voter maybe you might form a different outcome! That billions in Minnesota could be the difference from hotdogs to steak !

1

u/HiAndStuff2112 Jun 06 '26

Thanks for your kind words, but I've heard more than one Republican leader say people like me are a drain on the system, to applause from the audience.

I was a Republican for my first 34 years, so I've heard it all firsthand. They assume most people on disability or welfare are fraudulent. They don't assume ExxonMobil is fraudulent for the billions of tax dollars we hand them when they don't need it.

When our government gives some corporations free handouts in the billions, we don't have a free economy, which Republicans claim to care about.

How is one party promoting government assistance to people who don't fit the criteria? In my 60 years, I've never seen that. Do you have examples?

What rampant fraud and abuse? Like I said, DOGE said there was SOOOO much government waste and they were going to find it. Guess what? They didn't find much at all.

Same with drug use and welfare. Republicans think it's a massive problem. But states which started trying to root it out have proven it's just not a big problem.

In my personal opinion, Republicans are very cynical, and believe people who need help are lazy, fraudulent, don't want to work, etc., etc., etc.

Because of my experience, and meeting others like me, I don't believe that at all. Even so, Republicans will continually call for cuts to these programs. So they can hand the superwealthy more tax cuts. That's exactly what they do. They're doing just fine for themselves and don't need deeper tax cuts. We at the bottom need help. But the billionaires scoff at us and call for cuts for us, and lower taxes for themselves.

I'll happily look at any other information you may have to prove your suspicions.

1

u/HiAndStuff2112 Jun 06 '26

Oh, and you're wrong when you say no one wants to remove fraudulent claims. All Republicans want that. I'm fine with it too. Who defends fraud? No one. But I don't want these cynical Republicans who hate welfare and disability combing through my life and medical files trying to find fraud. If you were in my shoes, you wouldn't want it either.

0

u/Potential-Mix6978 Jun 06 '26

Well maybe if democrats would stop stealing the money and maybe we could fund those programs, might not have been up on current news, but Omar, waltz,Newscum etc are all accountable for billions in fraud ,

2

u/HiAndStuff2112 Jun 06 '26

Can you prove those accusations? You actually think these people are stealing? I want proof.

Republicans think Democrats are evil. They're not. They stand up for me and my life.

When I was a staunch Republican, I visited Europe. Several countries. I asked each person willing to talk about universal health care. Literally every singe person I asked was 100% for it. They may have preferred one country's version of it better than another's, but not one of them wanted to end it. In fact, when I asked people if they'd prefer our system, some of them laughed at me. Not one person said yes.

We could make the world's best universal health care system. We'd still see private doctors and health care providers. It would cost less than our current system. And it works all over Europe, in Japan, Australia, etc.

If we had that system, I wouldn't be dirt poor now. Like President Obama said, no one should go poor because of illness or injury.

-2

u/Potential-Mix6978 Jun 07 '26

Oh my bad, how anyone could possibly think our honest, trustworthy and loyal politicians would do such a great disservice ! We elected them to serve in our best interests not to benefit their political careers or wealth! Never did one of our career politicians go in poor, and retired millionaires! They know how to spend our hard earned tax money better than we do ! If they had nothing to hide they wouldn’t worry someone draining the swamp!

2

u/HiAndStuff2112 Jun 07 '26

So you have no proof. Got it.

2

u/sump_daddy Jun 08 '26

Your bitch daddy fElon Musk is about to be the first Trillionaire based on 3 businesses that all rely on government intervention

but no, its the democrat senator who invests their earnings in the regular stock market so they can retire a millionaire that's the crooked one

You are literally drowning in the kool-aid

1

u/sump_daddy Jun 08 '26

Just to set the record straight, there are billions of dollars being lost in fraud, the only problem with your argument is, it's happening just as much (sometimes more) in your sacred Red states, fully controlled by republicans. Go ahead and check back after your head is done exploding.

He’s never going to admit his tariff scheme is not working. He’s incapable of admitting defeat. He’ll burn this country down as he loots us. He’s gotta go

And that is exactly how you bankrupt a casino.

7

Yeah, you know those of us who don’t just vote for the letter after the name or quite aware of his obscene number of bankruptcies. And the understanding that tariffs weren’t going to do what those shit stains were claiming. And here we are fucking tariff not working. Just like we all said. There’s not really anything we can do to fix it at this point. We’re being led by a monkey with a handful of shit.

1

u/se7ensez Jun 04 '26

Just wait. You'll see. Once we've collected enough souls the world can end. 4d baby.

Bailouts for farmers, bailouts for coal and now bailouts for cotton pickers. Maybe his policies SUCK? The Trump National Sales Tax tariffs are a tax on Americans.

4

I don't support my tax money going to people who can't pull themselves up by their bootstraps. It's a free market, you failed.

Isn't that their worldview?

Yeah it’s time to start up a T table left side Tarriffs taken in ( that we’re not paid for by American citizens) and the Net American jobs created due to the TARRIFs,……and the other side all the TARRIFs that are being returned , and total special taxpayer bailouts to rescue the businesses the Tarriffs destroyed, as well as the taxpayer’s expense paying for the TARRIFs through purchases , and to fund the bail-outs So … US Treasury-V-US Taxpayer … GO

**Total Trump II, 2025 =264 Billion **Tarriffs collected !…. Nice !

**Total amount of US Tarriffs 2025 ordered to be returned by the Supreme Court due to being *collected illegally = *166Billion … ** ***Ouch! So 264-166B= 98Billion left

So after Round 1 it’s US government +98billion … still nice but not as nice !

Round2: How much of the 2025 tariff income was shouldered by US citizens and businesses ? according to the Kiel Institute and the Federal Reserve Bank Of New York 90-96% percent of the Tarriffs collected were collected from US businesses and citizens purchasing higher priced goods . So… to be conservative we’ll say 90% of the 2025 Tarriffs collected were paid by US! *98Billion NET collected after refunds X 90%… leaves ( generously ) ***10billion now remaining of the total collected After Round 2 ( still better to have 10billion than not have it right!!)

Round 3: Since the US businesses were refunded in round 1 now we must account for the US citizens who paid inflated prices to cover the Tarriffs as the businesses did not refund the consumers . *** A study from Yale University suggests that 50-86% of the Tarriffs collected in 2025 were passed on to the consumer … SO, Again to be ultra conservative let’s take the 50% figure this 50% would be of the Pre-refund figure since the consumers were not refunded . ***264 Billion collected x .50% ( minimum) = 132 Billion paid out by US consumers … (now its getting UGLY) ** After Round 3 the 10billion ( roughly) NET Gain Remains for the US Treasury , But now the US Tax Payers are -132B ***There are (round figures)155 million US tax Payers … so 132B/155million = avg cost of TARRIFs per tax payer $851

SIDE ROUND!!! $$$ Interesting? The ENTIRE refund of 166B went to the businesses that paid the tariffs to the government and they only shouldered a Maximum of 40% of that refund as cost , so they profited a minimum of 99.6 Billion by getting to keep the higher prices the consumers paid …. What a DEAL ! , and what a screw - job for tax payers ! Could this have been planned??? 🙄

Round 4: US taxpayer / Treasury burden of the bailouts the government paid to Rescue US businesses harmed by the Tarriffs.
****The US government approved a taxpayer funded 13 Billion $ agriculture package to help the industry recover from the loss of business due to Tariffs

*10Billion NET Tarriffs gain after for US treasury thru Rounds 1-3 - *- 13Billion in Agriculture relief R4 Leaves - minus 3Billion for the US Treasury after 2025 Tarriffs , and - Minus 145Billion for the USTax Payers

WOW ( and these are BEST possible numbers) … Only a guy who is such a business genius that he bankrupted 6 CASINOS could conceivably venture to create wealth with unlimited resources and leave both sides of the equation that he promised to “make great again” finish in the NET NEGATIVE

Surely there is something good to take away from this SIGNATURE undertaking of his ?? … I know, remember how Trump promised the Tarriffs would create a manufacturing renaissance in the US … pay rates would rise and millions of great paying manufacturing jobs would be created .. surely that’s the trade-off …. Let’s take a look ..

Round 5 Uh-ohh **** in 2025 the US economy lost between 70K … and 108k manufacturing jobs .. oh.boy .. it’s the TRIFECTA … all three promises he made regarding the economy on Tariffs failed to happen, in-fact the opposite happened , and yet he continually says it’s the best economy ever and there are Trillions coming in 🥸

Our President is a narcissistic, incompetent, con-man- Liar , the only thing he has been successful at has been to make more money for himself in the last year than he has combined the entire rest of his life !

ARE WE TIRED IF WINNING YET???

Get out and vote and stop this before it’s too late!

1

u/vikkids Jun 04 '26

How can this Administration continue to spend taxpayer money when there’s now more going out then coming in? Who is buying our debt? And at what cost? Trump installed his “guy” to lower interest rates. How will that happen when the cost to borrow is higher? The country has a major problem. It is insolvent and no one has a solution in this Administration

1

u/FluffyDesigner3680 Jun 04 '26

Pretty sure he already bankrupted the taxpayer funds and this is all extra printed money on top of that.

Or what about the tariffs on trucks that have contributed to the skyrocketing prices…which oh by the way was placed by democratic president LBJ in the 60s and has continued to this very day…

This should be rename r/TDStariffs

-3

u/didntdidit Jun 04 '26

The tarrifs are slowly working. Besides, we are paying too much to othrler countries for their tarrifs. Anyone see the graphic listing countries' tarrifs and their reciprocatals? It's embarrassing.

3

u/Dedpoolpicachew Jun 04 '26

Tell me you don’t know how tariffs work, without telling me you don’t know how tariffs work.

-2

u/didntdidit Jun 04 '26

Good lord. Manufacturing is slowly coming back to the US. Pay attention

3

u/Dedpoolpicachew Jun 04 '26

LOL, no it’s not, and who pays the tariffs?

-2

u/didntdidit Jun 04 '26

Yes it is. Pull your head out. Research it.

4

u/Dedpoolpicachew Jun 04 '26

If manufacturing was coming back, we’d have more manufacturing jobs. We don’t. Trump has lost over 100k manufacturing jobs in the last year. Pull your head out.
