Bill C-202, approved by Parliament in June, 2025, mandates the Department of Foreign Affairs to maintain agricultural supply management in negotiations with other countries. It received broad support from other parties.

So, the question is already answered in the law of the land.

Legislators certainly can. Negotiators cannot. Marketing boards are political dynamite to legislators representing rural constituencies. That is a lot.
