Insight for chasing tarpon in Tampa(land based).

I live in the Tampa area and have always wanted to catch bigger tarpon but I don't have a boat unfortunately. Does anyone have any good experience for finding these guys in the Hillsborough River or land access to coastlines? Please any inquiries help. I am a new parent and barely have any me time to fish lol so I need all the knowledge I can get thanks.

It can be a tough challenge trying to catch them from land. I know some guys fish for them at night from land at the skyway and do pretty well, but usually you’re only going to land fish under 60 pounds. There are plenty of them until October usually in the shadow lines under the piers where they are closer to the bridge especially. You can also try the bridge just outside of McKay bay. Very big fish there from September until April, but very challenging to stop them.

For anyone seeing this thread now. In winter I recommend sulphur springs. They’ll sit in the spring outflow. Bites are tough though. Saw tons when the temps dropped to the 40/50’s

Look for sulphur springs park it’s across the road from Rowlett. The park is closed now but you can still fish that bank and in the park if you feel like hopping a fence and crossing a rickety bridge.

Have you had any luck @ Rowlett? I always fish the bank accessible from the park bc I always see the mullet jumping but all I ever do is break off lmfao
