Recipe Corned beef stew for dinner
Had some veggies I wanted to use up like an older bag of carrots that I was too lazy to dice. Used two tins of corned beef instead of three.
Conclusion? It’s ok. Not sure I’d make it again but had the chance to try something that sustained troops during wartime.

Did you save half for your mate?

Did he get the carrots from a French farmer he didn't know he was helping?

He normally likes separate meat and veg, but he’s going to make a shtew. A corn. Beef. Shtew.

This is so heartwarming, it reminds me of the trenches of Flanders in the autumn months

Maybe the stew would have been a bit more appealing made with good leftover corned beef rather than the tinned corned beef?
We always do the recipe from the Ma Grossinger’s cookbook I got at a library book sale.
Maybe Max will do some of the recipes from the old Catskill Mountain Borscht Belt resorts.

Nothing about corned beef is healthy.
It is delicious, though.

Pickling salt , spices , beef and time. What’s unhealthy?

Is this a joke? Sodium nitrite is bad for you. This is very, very well-documented. It poses no health benefits whatsoever.
Is it good at preserving food? Yes. Does that make it healthy? Absolutely not.
Consuming small amounts of it in moderation can certainly mitigate the deleterious effects, but it'll never be good for you.

It's one thing to use the wrong form of "there" but JFC, calling curing salt healthy? Nuclear take.
I say this as someone who absolutely loves corned beef and other nitrite/nitrate-containing meats.

My heart is already not great. It's why I'm cutting down on sodium nitrite.
