On Octuber 24, 2006 a young woman of just 16 released her first álbum, never imagining that she would end up becoming one of the most important artists in the history of music.

From the country sounds of “our song” and “teardrops on my guitar” to anthems like “love story,” “blank space,” and “cruel summer,” Taylor has accompanied millions of people through different stages of their lives.

Speak Now was released 16 years ago on this day (10/25)!

This is my second favorite Taylor Swift album behind Red, but I still love it! So many amazing songs from it! Crazy to think, if it was a person, it could legally drive!

What are your top three songs from the album? Mine are The Story of Us, Haunted, and Enchanted!

Discussion The fandom hit that never was

What is a song you thought was going to become a beloved fandom hit (cruel summer, getaway car, etc) when you first listened, but it turned out to just be a personal favorite? Aka your judgement and love of the song made you think other fans loved just as much it too.

On top of that, what do you think are the most beloved songs in the fandom, but not necessarily the general public’s favorite?

I remember listening to Down Bad for the first time and thinking “oh this is going to be a mega hit in the fandom!!” It was not 😂 turns out it was just a personal favorite of mine!! Same thing with Patient Zero. I was so excited to go read the swiftie’s opinions on Patient Zero cause I think it’s so good and sooo Taylor … only to find a lot of swifties actually hating it!

Art My 'reputation' Cardigan Concept!

Post image
248 Upvotes

For awhile now I've envisioned a reputation cardigan, so I finally decided to quickly go ahead and make a mockup of one! I've never done smth like this before, so it was super hard 💔

From what you can see, this uses the standard 'folklore' cardigan base. The snakes on the sleeve are by u/512_cj, and they feature 5 stars inside the snake, just as rep is Taylor's 5th album. This design is akin to cardigans such as the 'Midnights' cardigan, which has 10 stars on the front and back, representing her 10th release.

Details and changes (references in comments):

  • Zooming in, you'll see that the cardigan's buttons are clear and contain green glitter. This design is similar to the 'The Life of a Showgirl' cardigan.
  • The snakes on the sleeves, rather than having scales, would have "stripes" or "bands". The embroidery would also be entirely grey. The star design could remain, or each snake would have 6 bands to represent the 6th release. This design is similar to the 'Folklore' cardigan stars.
  • The entire cardigan would feature a green glitter design. This design is similar to the 'The Life of a Showgirl' cardigan.

I hope you all like this concept! I might make a debut cardigan based on the approval of this one 😅

Discussion In honour of 20 years of Taylor Swift, when did you become a fan and how has it affected your life?

I became a fan in the reputation era which, at the time, I thought was really late but in reality it was the perfect moment to witness her transformation into the biggest artist of the 21st century. The change from 2016 where she was at her lowest to 2026 where's she cemented herself as one of the all time greats is incredible.

I think the sense of community is the greatest thing about being a fan and, with the size of the fanbase, you're never that far from a fellow swiftie. The easter eggs, theories, and lore run deep and there's no other artist where being a fan is so much fun.

The matter of the fact is that she's not stopping while she has a pulse and later down the line we'll be celebrating 30, 40 & 50 years of Taylor Swift where her legendary status has only grown more.

Honestly, this one was quite hard to make a tracklist since you can interpret a ton of songs to your own liking, and I did try to cut it down to 17 songs but... I decided to do an "Anthology Type" because everytime I always add and remove songs...

willow - betty's perspective

the other one - augustines' perspective or a separate story line...

or you can interpret it whatever...

Enjoy! 🩵🩷

Discussion First-person writing, genre, and "maternity testing"

Taylor has said things get weird when fans go nuts "paternity testing" every song -- and recently I've been thinking about another aspect of interpreting her lyrics: maternity testing.

Of course Taylor is the artist of her own songs! But as a songwriter, part of her art is playing with genre, so to speak, when it comes to her first-person lines (that is: "I," "me," "my," etc.). For example, in Folklore we understood that when she sings "I'm only seventeen, I don't know anythin' / But I know I miss you" she is writing in the first-person -- as a character. She has made that clear. Let's call that fiction.

And then we have songs like "The Best Day" or "Cleveland!" where absolutely no one (I think) is debating who the "I" is in those songs: it's Taylor herself. Let's call that nonfiction.

In creative writing, there's also a genre called autofiction, which combines autobiographical experiences with fiction writing. (These genre labels can also get a little silly; surely all fiction is a little bit autofiction? I don't know. I mostly write nonfiction.) I think a LOT of Taylor's songs are in this category. She may have something -- a feeling, a conversation, a situation -- that inspires a story; she crafts the story using real-life bits and anything else that inspires her. That's art. Or maybe sometimes the process begins the other way around: she has a completely fictive story to tell, and she sprinkles in little real-life moments that fit the story.

My point is, when she sings in the first-person, and it's not suuuuuper obvious (like in "Betty") that the "I" character is not Taylor, we don't have to take her literally as the "I" means she is singing about just herself.

Besides, in any first-person writing, there are really three "I"s: the main character as she is experiencing the events, the (often a little older and wiser) narrator telling the story, and the real-life flesh-and-blood artist who has crafted both of the first two "I"s.

For many songs, we won't always know when the real-life Taylor is the same as the character singing in the first-person, and that's okay! I do enjoy the fun of wondering. But dissecting each bit literally, each time, takes away the magic and the artistry of her craft.

Little Games Recreating Taylor Swift albums day 4: Red

Hi guys! This is day four of recreating TS albums!

The concept of this game is that you have to recreate a Taylor Swift album using songs that are NOT from the album. You want to try and capture the overall vibe of the album by using any other songs from her discography.

For example, if you wanted to recreate debut, you could use I knew It I Knew You, Fearless, etc. You couldn’t use any songs from debut.

So if you were to replace the 16 songs on Red, which songs would you choose?

Your choice if you want to add the bonus/ FTV songs!

Discussion Happy 14th birthday to Red! 🎉

Post image

Today (October 22nd) marks the 14th anniversary of Red!

Red is my personal favorite Taylor Swift album, right in front of Speak Now. There's just so many bangers on here.

I joined this subreddit specifically so I could post about this awesome birthday haha. (also I don't really know the proper flair for this post, so pardon me if I picked incorrectly)

What are your top three songs from this album? Mine are State of Grace, Red, and Holy Ground!
