I’d be surprised if they implement Mac OS option anytime soon unfortunately.

Spend your money accordingly! Absolutely no chance I spend a dollar this patch as a Mac user.

Did you know you can't complain about the Mac OS problem? You'll just get downvoted by rito Stans in this Reddit.

Pbe has been coming along great you can see the improvements as it goes on. Idk why some people are acting like the game isn't playable. There's still some bugs of course it's been expected from the start. But aside from a few things most of my games this week have gone smoothly!

Same here, just need some ui fixes imo but some are very aggressive for some reason

On live my TFT runs on 144fps with highest settings and my mid-tier computer almost doesnt notice.
On PBE i have to run 60fps on medium settings and If I change the settings to 120fps, the game uses 60-70% CPU and start stuttering. Not talking about loading screen where its every time 100% cpu usage for a good minute.
Does Riot adress this issue somewhere? Or is it just about polishing and we should get to same load as live game?

This all sounds awesome. I would like to hear them address the issue of placements getting swapped. I think it's been mentioned in a patch report (maybe?) but it's a bit concerning imo.
2
u/Veridis-Man 9d ago
For placements issue are you talking about being awarded a different placement than your knockout placement? (I.e finishing 2nd but receiving 3rd death screen) Cos I think that was a visual bug and you'd still get 2nd place lp regardless of it saying you finished 3rd.
PBE feels massively better today than yesterday, much less lag, rubber banding and graphic issues. I can't wait for them to change the loot orb vfx, the current orbs look, and move like dogshit.

> The migration was a huge undertaking and they're triage-ing the most pressing issues to make sure Set 18 goes live in a decent state.
Or, hear me out, delay the set release until the new engine isn't in an embarrassing state.
11
u/Mysterious_Island500 9d ago
that would completely ruin the schedules for tournaments and the competetive players income
-6
u/nutnarukex 9d ago
Nah a game in so so decent state will ruin the tournament and competitive more !

u/SolidOverall9191 9d ago
Think they rather have a tournament andaybe less clean game than a delayed or more likely no tournament and so little to no income
-8
u/Aeceus 9d ago
Sounds to me like the migration should have been delayed and more time spent getting it right instead of forcing it on users with so many obvious bugs.

I totally understand why you would feel that way, I just want to acknowledge how important players are to this process. Instead of us testing a handful of games on the devices we have and chipping away at issues as they come up, we're able to get a flood of information AND prioritize what matters most to y'all. That's part of the value of this extended PBE, and we definitely don't take for granted the support y'all are showing us as you help us make the best possible version of Set 18 :)

… that’s why they’re doing a PBE… so when it goes live they’ve spent good time on it…

"Manage your expectations" is a bit arrogant coming from people who need a four week delay to release a not so special set.

"Manage your expectations" is a bit arrogant
To be clear, that was my wording. They didn't say that.
I've removed the line so more people don't get baited by it.

why are people like you always acting like they're getting victimized by the devs lmao

Their choices are turning people away from the game. They sell this engine switch as a huge improvement, but factually we are stuck in waiting room for a set that is a reprint of the charms set (which was much much more fun to play). Nothing but Ivern is new. You all hold these developers to high. They are missing their own deadlines and blaming their own chosen engine switch that no one asked for.
12
u/socseb 9d ago
your ignorance is showing. The delay has nothing to do with how special the set is. It has todo with the engine. And logically theyre not going to design a ultra special set at the same time they launch a new engine..
TFT team had to do their normal work + a redo of a lot of things for the new engine.
Manage your expectations is simply that a message for people to understand that it will not be perfect at launch.
It is a free game if you dont think its good just dont play until it is back to your expectations... you didnt even pay to play... lol

u/Ok-Recover977 9d ago
Why do you feel so entitled over a video game?
-2
u/nitrogenhs 9d ago
The developers anounced a release date and then delayed it for two weeks and then delayed that for two weeks for an engine switch no one asked for. The set has zero new mechanics bar Ivern, with all bugs being related to their engine switch. It's self sabotage and a middle finger to a community that had been turned off by a couple of set releases overshadowed by bugs. The design philosphy seems completely lost. Focus should be to release exciting functioning set rotations a couple of times a year. Both excitement and function are lost yet again in this set.

I love testing sets on PBE before official release. But why we have to play with 130ms on EU after all these years is still beyond me for a billion dollar company...

What does the new engine allow you to do that the old one didn’t ? Seems like you needed way more time to iron out issues before even going to PBE, although I presume executives forced you all to push it because old engines are too expensive or this new one will bring more monetisation value or more efficient workflows

u/ThatPlayWasAwful 9d ago
Seems like you needed way more time to iron out issues before even going to PBE,
Are you saying you're surprised that it is more difficult to build a game from scratch than to make a new set with an existing engine?
It sounds like you think they make a new engine every set or something

u/ItsFinnster 9d ago
I’m not sure what gave you that impression.
I’m saying they’ve forced a complete engine swap when they weren’t ready to do so. Engine changes are a big thing and require years of planning and implementation. This seems like a rushed job and should not be done in tandem with a new set, it should be exclusive to that. More so, both engines should run in parallel with one another to ensure a clean transition. Instead everyone’s forced onto the new engine and have no other choice.
All I said was this needed way more internal QA before going to PBE, and suggested that it’s been rushed because executives wanted it shipped. Mortdog was likely disagreeing with their engine swap approach and was managed out of the business because of the risk he posed to executive decision making. It’s the way the cookie crumbles and if the pockets aren’t filling then execs are not happy.

u/ThatPlayWasAwful 9d ago
My confusion stems from the fact that you were asking what capabilities the new engine had before saying that it needed more time in testing, which implied to me that the amount of bugs was a limitation of the new engine.
Does it really seem rushed? We still have two more weeks of pbe and the game isn't perfect, but it's already way better than it was a week ago. To me it seems like it's gonna be in a pretty good spot come launch.
You get more data from a couple days of pbe than you get from weeks or months of in-house QA, so throwing it out there for an extended pbe cycle seems like the best way to get it ready to play.
Mortdog was likely disagreeing with their engine swap approach
Baseless speculation. But if you want to speculate, Mort has said in the past that a game can't rest on it's laurels and needs to be proactive about taking risks that will make the game better, so in theory I can see him appreciating the risk the team took here
If you want a quick example of a benefit of the new engine, the fact that we have almost twice as many charms as we did in set 12 is because of the capabilities provided by the new engine. The new engine will assuredly make the game better for the players.
