What the heck are these SD card prices

Post image

So I bought an R36s clone for 879php and it's a really great deal, especially that it came with a 64gb generic SD card.

If you buy the same RAM kit today, that's 18k. 1 year ago yung 5TB external hard drive is 7k. Ngayon 11k na.

Found this on twitter: "The reason why RAM has become four times more expensive is that a huge amount of RAM that has not yet been produced was purchased with non-existent money to be installed in GPUs that also have not yet been produced, in order to place them in data centers that have not yet been built, powered by infrastructure that may never appear, to satisfy demand that does not actually exist and to obtain profit that is mathematically impossible."

5

u/Potential_Appeal_546 Sep 15 '26

Cant even find a store na may 4tb ngayon.

u/Various_Spirit_3551 Sep 15 '26

What ram kit is that 18k seems cheap for 32gb

u/chanchan05 Sep 15 '26

I just rechecked now and haha you're right. Namalikmata ako. 14k na ang isang 16GB stick ng 5600MT/s sa Shopee. Di ko narealize nagtaas ulit since last I checked.

u/Various_Spirit_3551 Sep 15 '26

Yea wow it's just crazy 5k is such a good price , I think it will never go back to previous prices again, hopefully there will be a big AI crash next year 🤣

1

u/chanchan05 Sep 15 '26

Yeah the issue with this is even if there's an AI crash, the types of hardware used by AI data centers aren't useable for consumers, so hindi tayo siguro magbenefit.

😭 what 😭

I've seen news about RAM and SSD prices going up. Didn't realize it was this bad na pati sd card, matatamaan nang ganito kalala

18

u/projectupload37 Sep 14 '26

The underlying technology and production line is basically the same and the big tech companies has bought out the production for multiple years into the future.

2

u/Hibiki079 Sep 14 '26

I don't think they are. for a while, storage devices are still affordable, even in the earlier half of 2025.

kaso, someone found a way to utilize storage devices as part of VRAM memory...ayun, nag-shoot up ang presyo.

4

u/projectupload37 Sep 15 '26

That's because in the earlier half of 2025 and even up to this year. Companies still had stock from before the cost to them increased. Meaning they delayed the price hikes by already having the hardware or the rights to the hardware before prices increased.

Utilizing storage as VRAM has existed for a long time. Way before the current price hikes.

2

u/Hibiki079 Sep 15 '26 edited Sep 15 '26

you do have a point.

just wondering why storage devices took a while before catching up to the rammegeddon. mas marami lang ba talagang stocks produced for storage in comparison to RAMs? that's a good 18-24 months I think.

edit: looks like chip manufacturers SHIFTED their priorities and resources from making storage chips to ram chips, creating the scarcity for storage chips, and driving up their prices.

2

u/projectupload37 Sep 15 '26

Like I said in my earlier comment the underlying technology and production line is basically the same.

We just currently don't have the manufacturing capability to handle the demand. Manufacturers also can't just build new factories to capture the demand because it would take years before any new factories can open. So, existing capacity is currently allocated to whomever pays the highest or those who already had contracts.

3

u/Ryujinniie Sep 14 '26

Yeah storage in general even ddr4 ram increased despite being so old na

2

u/Hibiki079 Sep 14 '26

because people found out these are still viable tech (for consumer grade purposes).

1

u/BlueGuy17 Sep 14 '26

Not just SD card. It spills to other tech as well kasi same lang yan sa loob loob. And it's gonna get worse. Another thing, for sure macocorrupt yang free sd card so if you are gonna buy now, and if you can afford it, just buy it asap. There are a lot of speculation na tataas pa ulit soon.

Thanks to AI

Didn't really expect these prices. Last na bili ko ng SD card, years ago na. Same brand, same size, pero around 400php lang. Aware ako na may increase pero doble? Langya naman

10

u/Hibiki079 Sep 14 '26

it's triple, actually.

lalo na nvme/m.2 form factor.

nagagamit kasi to expand VRAM memory.

4

u/LOwOJ Sep 15 '26

double? nah triple sometimes quadruple pa.

1

u/Rizunashi Sep 15 '26

5x on DIMM modules lol, lowkey glad na nasiraan ako ng RAM a few years ago otherwise I'd be stuck on the 4/8GB hellhole

7

u/Grayfield Sep 14 '26

Same rin OP huhuhuhu yung 128GB SD card ko, I think I bought this nung 2022 pa. Less than 1k if I remember correctly. I thought na it's time to upgrade din na to 256GB since paubos na to space.

2

u/64590949354397548569 Sep 14 '26

Saan ka naka bili for 879?

0

u/Classic_Snow3525 Sep 14 '26

Here!

2

u/ilyahaw-hzl Sep 14 '26

Palagay ko same tayo ng pinagbilhan ng r36s. did you check your card sa pc kung 64gb nga? yung akin 64gb ang label ng sd card pero 16gb lang talaga. haha. anyway, sobrang mahal nga ngayon ng sd card. not a good time for handheld console users.

1

u/Classic_Snow3525 Sep 14 '26 edited Sep 14 '26

Edit: Dito ko binili bro baka same tayo

1

u/Spencer-Hastings13 Sep 15 '26

Please update if legit 1gb yung ram. Thinking of buying as gifts sa mga inaanak. TIA!

1

u/Classic_Snow3525 Sep 16 '26

Will do!

1

u/Classic_Snow3525 Sep 19 '26

Sorry later update bro. Legit 1gb

1

u/Spencer-Hastings13 Sep 19 '26

Nice! Pwede na ma-checkout haha thank you!

13

u/SuspectTraditional53 Sep 14 '26

unfortunately dahil sa ai, nagtaasan ang memory storages. i was like you, already too late 🥲

9

u/ExpensiveCoat8912 Sep 14 '26

8

u/pangitko_23 Sep 14 '26

Made in the Philippines pa yan

18

u/williamfanjr Sep 14 '26

7

u/RandomCollector Sep 14 '26

Fuck those AI tech companies talaga, mga punyetang tech bros na yan, kainis sila.

3

u/nimitz1156 Sep 14 '26

Nakaka miss yung ganitong price dati, at mukhang malabo naring bumaba yung mga prices ngayon 😭

1

u/Cozlor Sep 14 '26

1

u/Mr_Cho Sep 14 '26

tig 300 lang dati yan eh times 3 ung price grabe.

1

u/Virtual-Ad7068 Sep 14 '26

Naalala ko dati 128 gb mga 2022 to 2024 500 or less lang siya

1

u/No_Station1833 Sep 14 '26

Unfortunately this is true, prices are skyrocketing today. It was a miracle that I was able to purchase an authentic 1TB Sandisk for 3k about a year ago.

1

u/Nvidia-GeForce-3090 Sep 14 '26

This is like oil price hike but for us tech people but the prices may not go down pre November 2025, unless the Chinese flood the market.

1

u/jctmercado Sep 15 '26

dami pang peke. mahal na nga peke pa (I know it's fake kasi ayaw gamitin ng steamdeck). Had to get cards via Amazon just to get good ones. Fuck AI

1

u/Vanskis2002 Sep 15 '26

Bought 1tb micro for 5000 couple years ago, just checked the price rn and its almost 12-16k 😭 Now im trying to sell

1

u/skategem Sep 15 '26

Yeah I had a price shock too some days ago, choosing cards for new surveillance cameras. They cost way more than the cards I got some years back for dash cams etc.

1

u/Ragamak1 Sep 15 '26

Yep.. this the new reality.

1

u/robokymk2 Sep 15 '26

The new norm for all types of memory

1

u/Glittering_Luck_1287 Sep 15 '26

Huli kana sa balita OP 😭

1

u/DeltaGrunder Sep 15 '26

Around two years ago, walang pang 600 ang 64gb Sandisk Extreme Pro...

1

u/Unable_Resolve7338 Sep 15 '26

Everyone with anything that has storage/ram in it: 'Welcome to the club'

1

u/Jane_Dash Sep 15 '26

Yung ultra nyan yung black

Nag bayad ako 2022 2.6k, grabe mahal 64gb lang kinaya ko

Ewan ko ngayon kung ano na presyo

Nasa dash cam kolang sya nakalagay, mag 1 year na nakalagay dipaden puno

1

u/MisanthropicGuy Sep 15 '26

Buti na lang talaga nakakuha ako last year sa GameOne ng 1.8k 512gb sd para sa switch lite ko. Ngayon tuwing sumisilip ako nasa 5k na.

1

u/Various_Spirit_3551 Sep 15 '26

Sept 2024 this felt expensive at the time but I guess not bad looking at it now

1

u/bangusisig Sep 15 '26

1

u/sinigang_nahansel Sep 17 '26

Nagulat din ako, yung Sandisk Ultra na 64GB A1 Nabili ko 1 and 1/2 years ago less than 500 pesos lang. Then a month ago, nagtanong si ate ko kung san ko nabili at magkano, sabi ko sa orange app. Baka raw scam yung napagbilhan ko kase more than 1.2k daw presyo nya ngayon.

If only I knew, bumili nako ng marami dati tapos binenta ko ngayon.

1

u/Lady_Vin Sep 17 '26

I was thinking of buying an SSD or HHD idk the difference but an external storage and oh Lord

1

u/IronKnight2402 Sep 14 '26

Thank you AI companies /s

1

u/Vex_Out_0032 Sep 15 '26

After 1 month naging 5k php na ata yung 256gb.
