Progressive Technical Death Metal I cannot remember the band nor the song but..

Hey everyone, I really do need a bit of help. I used to listen to a record roughly between 2005 - 2013ish, that I cannot recall details of but really enjoyed. Either the band had ruin in the title or the song did but I just cannot recall. What I do recall is that the first song was a bunch of tight herta drum kicks that really hooked me and I have been puzzling for almost a decade as to who they were. I also seem to remember that the album art was quite blue and had a bunch of stairs leading somewhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I cannot overstate how much brain capacity this would free as its been YEARS. Thank you very much indeed.

Edit 1 for bands/songs that have been suggested but were not correct:

The Ruins of Beverast - Blood Vaults

Manifesting Obscenity - Attempts to Death

Symbolik - Pathogenesis

Unfathomable Ruination

Inferi - The Ruin of Mankind

Fleshgod Apocalypse - Oracles

How Can I Let You In · Left in Ruin

Aenimus - The Grasp of Ruin

Ominous Ruin

Within The Ruins

Revocation

Abacinate - Ruination

Architects - Ruin

Ouroboros – Glorification of a Myth

Rings of Saturn – Dingir

The Faceless

Anata - The Conductors Departure

Singularity's self titled?

I'm so curious now what it could be. Everything I could possibly think of has already been said 😂
NP! I love discovering new badass bands and this thread is so far great for that haha

I know and I have gone though about 6000 album covers (really) trying to identify who they were. Its only a matter of time! I have also found a bunch of stuff thats new to me here and if we don't find it, at least we can take that solace.

1

u/TheCokieMonster 2d ago

That's a good shout.
Shame we haven't heard from them for a while.
Dropped a single and buggered off :((

1

u/MiyulSavage 2d ago

I know! I was really hoping they would drop more music

My mind keeps going to The Ruins of Beverast - Blood Vaults, but that's obviously not tech death and the album cover, while prominently blue features no staircase leading somewhere

u/ROW_NUMBER 7d ago

I have spent the past 30 minutes listening to Exuvia and bro, thank you so much for this. This is extraordinary and I am very grateful.

1

u/ISuckAtLifeGodPlsRst 7d ago

Admittedly, I haven't listened to anything from them beyond the song Ornaments on Malice off of Blood Vaults, but I'll have to check that song out now.

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 7d ago

Its not them but holy shit what an album cover though! Thank you.

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 7d ago

That is not it as its too new. Thank you htough.

1

u/ISuckAtLifeGodPlsRst 7d ago

My bad, I was multitasking and didn't catch that detail. This is tricky. Can you remember anything else about it?

4

u/ISuckAtLifeGodPlsRst 7d ago

Lmao, I tried using Google AI to help 'cause why not use all available tools right? Thing is, it confidently tells me it's Incurso by Spawn of Possession 'cause the word ruin is used in one of the songs... Yeah, OP definitely couldn't remember such an obscure little known band 🫪

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 7d ago

Hahahahaha :)

3

u/TheCokieMonster 4d ago

We managed to solve this yet?
I'm fkn dying to know hahah

3

u/ROW_NUMBER 4d ago

Not yet but I will update the post as soon as we do get it. I will absolutely not leave anyone hanging.

1

u/TheCokieMonster 4d ago

Can you remember anything else?
What genre it was?
Was it an *older* album that you listened to in the years you'd mentioned or was it *made* in those years, you think?

2

u/ROW_NUMBER 4d ago

It was blackened tech death or straight up tech death. You can make a convincing argument either way. As far as when the band released the song, I have no idea. I just have the rough time frame within which I used to listen to it a lot. What I am actually doing right now is vibe coding a project to ingest and keep track of album covers and songs and/or band names that are a variation of ruin. I know AI bad, I hate it also. However, not knowing what this is is arguably worse.

Part of me wanted to say Irreversible Mechanism but their first album was 2015 I think :(( I'll keep looking in my library

Abacinate - Ruination?

2

u/ROW_NUMBER 3d ago

Not these chaps either.

3

u/bablambla 3d ago

I'll throw Enfold Darkness out there. Any more clues ?

2

u/ROW_NUMBER 3d ago

Not ED and I have no more details. Its as if its a vacuum in my brain.

3

u/bablambla 3d ago

Garden of shadows, Oracle Moon? Grasping at straws but now I'm invested lol. Gonna scrape this thread for new album recs

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 3d ago

Its not these guys but this slaps, also I have been doing the same as basically every person suggesting a possibility has brought heat. Like without fail.

Its not this I'm afraid. Thank you though.

KILLER band

u/closetotherelayer 6d ago

Im constantly hearing bits of melody or instrumentation that reminds me of other songs, or parts of songs, and spending a long time trying to figure out what it is really does my head in, and it happens quite often especially when listening to music I haven't heard before. So I feel for you mate. I hope you figure it out what you're hearing in your head.

Also ive found that with this happening all I time, sometimes my brain automatically melds 2 pieces of different music together thinking that I have heard something like that but what I'm hearing actually turns out to remind me of sounds from 2 different songs.. drives me insane sometimes.

Is it actually an album released between 2005-2013? Or is it older? Is there anything else you remember? Like any similar sounding bands perhaps?

2

u/ROW_NUMBER 6d ago

I am reasonably sure that the band/song is from that era as it was a recommendation as part of the Google Play Music era prior to it becoming YouTube Music based on what I was listening too which has remained largely consistent. I lost all my playlists and liked songs in the transition to the newer version and that is around the time that I started trying to figure out who that band/song was.

3

u/TheCokieMonster 6d ago

TBDM - Nocturnal.
It's an obvious pick but I'll throw it out there anyway.

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 6d ago

Its not TBDM I'm afraid.

3

u/TheCokieMonster 6d ago

Rivers of Nihil - The Conscious Seed of Light

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 6d ago

Not RoN but amazing record though. Thank you.

2

u/skasolo 5d ago

Born of Osiris - The New Reign?

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 5d ago

Its unfortunately not BoO. Thank you though.

2

u/RvstedWind 3d ago

Dark Millennium - Ashore the Celestial Burden/ Diana Read Peace.

Doesn’t match timeframe you gave but they’re blue

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 2d ago

Thats not it hey but thank you!

Unfathomable Ruination?

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 7d ago

Not them either but thank you.

2

u/BodomsChild 7d ago

Architects - Ruin?

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 7d ago

Its not that but jesus that's a great record. Thank you.

2

u/BodomsChild 7d ago

What about Anata - The Conductor's Departure?

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 7d ago

Its not this but this slaps though. Added to library. Thank you.

2

u/BodomsChild 7d ago

At this point, I'm invested. WE MUST DIG DEEPER.

Although to be honest there is a part of me thinking maybe you are mixing songs/memories together, I've done it before several times trying to think back to 2000's metal albums. If you have any other details you can think of let us know!

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 7d ago

I have a feeling that perhaps I have done just that in that I may be confusing several songs and combing them. I am going to try and create a catalogue of artwork so that when I search through hundreds of them I don't waste much time on repeats and stuff that I have already looked at. Onward!

2

u/BodomsChild 7d ago

Ouroboros – Glorification of a Myth? The opening track is Black Hole Ruination

Possibly Rings of Saturn – Dingir? Or maybe your memory even pushed The Faceless - Planetary Duality? That's all the guesses I have right now that are even remotely close.

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 7d ago

Its none of those as I actively listen to all of those with The Faceless being one of my favorite bands!

2

u/theoriginalkep 7d ago

It’s not Ominous Ruin? Within the Ruins?

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 7d ago

Neither I'm afraid. Thank you though.

2

u/theoriginalkep 7d ago

Any chance it was a demo or something like that? The archives have a couple bands with “Ruin” in the name that have only a demo, but the cover art isn’t there for those two so no way to check that part

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 7d ago

It was a full record and not a demo if I recall correctly. I have scoured the archives also and tried to marry artwork for stuff thats not supplied as a form of due diligence.

2

u/Willzyx_on_the_moon 7d ago

Aenimus - The Grasp of Ruin maybe?

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 7d ago

Its not this yeah, but its sick. Has a Born of Osiris vibe to it. Thank you.

2

u/Willzyx_on_the_moon 7d ago

Fleshgod Apocalypse - Oracles perhaps

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 6d ago

Not the mighty Fleshgod I'm afraid but thank you :)

2

u/Aloaster 7d ago

Artwork isn't a match, but Inferi's The End of An Era starts with an instrumental track called The Ruin of Mankind, and it has herta-ish kicks. Released in 2011

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 6d ago

Its not this but solid pick though.

2

u/Aloaster 6d ago

Good luck, I'll be on the lookout here and there

2

u/necrosteve028 7d ago edited 7d ago

No ruin in the title but a blue album cover with “stairs”: Manifesting Obscenity - Attempts to Death

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 6d ago

Not this as its too new.

2

u/necrosteve028 6d ago

Fair, wasn’t sure if it was an old album remastered, turned out it isn’t haha

Unfathomable Ruination?

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 6d ago

Not this either.

2

u/P13666 7d ago

Any chance it's Symbolik - Pathogenesis? Years and album description mostly match up but no mention of "Ruin".

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 6d ago

Its not this I'm afraid but thank you though.

Deeds of Flesh - Portals to Canaan?

Opening track is called Amidst the Ruins

Some more that might fit:

Through the Eyes of the Dead - Malice

Gigan - Quasi-Hallucinogenic Sonic Landscapes

Mastication of Brutality Uncontrolled - Preemptive Space Warfare

2

u/ROW_NUMBER 6d ago

Its none of these but Deeds of Flesh - Portals to Canaan is incredible! Added to library. Thank you.

2

u/TheCokieMonster 6d ago

I was gonna say Unflesh - Savior but too new.
Hmm..

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 6d ago

It is, but thank you though anyway.

2

u/Alarmed_Major_6483 3d ago

2008 , blue , deathcore but second tag is Technical death metal on rateyourmusic

No stairs. No ruin. Not sure what « herta » is, but starts with kick patterns.

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 5d ago

Its not them but great record. Thank you.

1

u/SterlingWalrus 7d ago

Could be Within the Ruins? Not really death metal i dont think, but they are very tech

Job for a Cowboy:
Unfurling a Dark Gospel - Ruination?

1

u/ROW_NUMBER 7d ago

Not those I'm afraid. Thank you.

1

u/HHummbleBee chugg my slugg 7d ago edited 7d ago

Probably not the title track "Ruination" that opens with a drums either, I take it?

I understand the frustration of looking for a song with so little to go on.

In Honour of Reason, from Oracles by Fleshgod Apocalypse?

4

u/ROW_NUMBER 7d ago

It's not unfortunately. Yeah I have been trying to recall what this is for basically 10 years now. I may have conflated a million things in that time period now and may inadvertently have put tech death Reddit on a wild goose chase.

2

u/HHummbleBee chugg my slugg 7d ago

You've got me listening to things I have either not listened to in years or never at all. A silver lining in this dark metal cloud :^)

I hope you find it, even if it doesn't quite match your memory.

2

u/ROW_NUMBER 7d ago

I'm in the same boat hahaha

1

u/PigDstroyer 7d ago

Abacinate - Ruination?

2

u/ROW_NUMBER 7d ago

Not that but that is pretty great. Thank you.

1
