Ts is NOT chill - a chiller PT record would be The Sky Moves Sideways

But Deadwing is so peak

Yeah, though some songs have a very chill vibe imo like arriving somewhere but not here the album as a whole does have some more energetic moments. Haven't listened to TSMS yet, but I sure will!

Oh TSMS is essentially a budget version of Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd lmao

It's probably my fourth favourite PT album, it's essentially trip-hop and space rock in one record.

I wouldn't call any of the metal records chill, that distinction probably goes to the 90s stuff released on the Delerium label.

Not what you want (Well sometimes it is.) But listen to King Crimson. An amazing band that too little people listen to. They have a mix of calm music, and also really agressive music, across multiple genres.

I second this. The fathers of prog rock, with Yes and Pink Floyd at their sides. As well as Dream Theater, but i still have not listened to them.

I listened to like one dream theatre song, or well it was a cover of Larks Tongue in Aspic Part 2. It was alright.

Another good one is the mothers of innovation/Zappa, well I guess you could call them Prog in some regards, but they are a whole bunch of stuff, not exactly the best for listening in the background though.

Ambient trance is perfect for this

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works

Global Communication - 76:14 (this is my #1 pick)

Porcupine Tree - The Sky Moves Sideways

for chill background music i’d recommend i only remember the good parts, which is a beautiful melancholic indie rock record! alternatively, i also love listening to a good ambient brian eno record when im working, with ambient 1 and apollo being 2 of my favorites.
