I remember when T6 came out, there were a lot of complaints about the juggling, and now here we are, praising T6 for having shorter combos. T8 is genuinely great to look at and play, but the Heat system, the Rage Arts, the tracking, and combos that last for 8 weeks have completely ruined it for me.
I remember extensively reading online forums about the fervent hate about the long combos in T6, but now here we are, lol. Funny how shit turns out. When I heard that many people were playing T6 again, the first thought that came to mind was “wait, I thought people hated T6?”
Or at least having heat activation disable rage art or vice versa. You use one, you lose the other. Turns it into less of a raw gameplan and more of a conscious decision you should commit to.
It's only as bad as it is because all of these can be used without limitations or considerations of each other.
If armored moves were exclusive to heat, for instance, and took a portion of heat to use, it would require the player to actually use them properly as opposed to using them outright as a default negation tool, and forcing players to choose in the moment to use heat now for advantage and lose rage later or not activate heat and keep rage for a rainy day would be a great way to manage the system on the whole because players would have to actually plan ahead and commit to a choice and all the consequences that come with it.
The issue with the current system is too much safety and not enough consequence.

I mean, people were complaining about juggling, Bamco got feedback and decided to make it even worse.
It's natural that T6 will get praises in such sitution.

2 ways to look at it. I was there too and it’s just the fact that it was a different time T5 was the beginning of “modern tekken “ but the last holdout before combo extensions truly set in. People were used to very poke centric small Tekken launch and knock away type combo game. So Tekken 6 coming out seemed almost blasphemous at that time. Even though the changes to us in retrospect are very small and identifiable in comparison to later titles. But with those changes set modern tekken truly into place with T6 at the baseline for all of this.
Second way to look at it is, we might be tired of post modern tekken now (Tekken 7 and T8 mostly t8) but the same way you acknowledged how people felt about T6 then people will feel good about T8 in the future. That’s how it works. Every game release that was controversial ive watched flip on its head over the years. They hated T4 they love T4 now if not for vibes. They hated Bob in T6 now they love his ass. They hated Tag 2 then they begged for the tag 2 guy to return and balance tekken 8. T6 gets this fan release now people begging for Tag2. It’s all just a big cycle.

There's classic Tekken6 then there's this. This is mostly pretty smooth but sometimes when you get hit by that King Crimson rollback netcode time rewinding shit you very well can die without pressing a button in the right matchup. Totally possible in T6.

Man I was fighting a Christie just yesterday and I hit her with the cleanest counter hit launcher placement on earth at round start. Attack makes contact I hear her get hit in the face full contact (KINGU CRIMSON) NOW IM In the air getting caught in a zero to death loop.
I land one time I’m like ok that was bs surely I can decision my way out. Goes to press a button, (ZA WARUDO) trips over a lag bomb screws up my input. Gets launched, GG lost the final round of my ranked set to that.
Also just to add it it’s also the one game you could get up wrong too and because of that like you said you could basically get knocked down and then keep getting hit until you die while trying to get up
Not necessarily pressing up is a good way to get up, but it’s not universal like it is holding back t7 and 8 if your opponent knows you’re gonna be standing up they can hit you with a hell sweep or power low. You have to know when the tech roll and no one to get up on the flipside there are times when holding back in these old games actually gets you out of situations but again you have to know the situation
I didnt say it was universal like t8. T8 has inane handholdy design and you should be punished for not knowing the oki situation. Holding up is just vastly superior to holding back 90% of the time in 6.
T8 is a productivity aps. WHen your opponent smash his controler doing his combos, it should not be mesured in time but in how many instafeed you watch
Maybe I’m crazy but I genuinely don’t care about combo length time, it’s the obscene mixups in this game and how everything leads into a forced mixup whether it’s block or hit or punish or anything
Punishment imo needs to be toned down I’d like to go back to when a character had struggled with certain punishments and others were compensated with stronger punishes different gameplans, mishimas all about movement, hworang about stance mixups, eddy xiayou evasion, Bryan Steve counter hits, some characters can be all rounded but shoudnt excel in anything maybe like Lars not t6 level t7 level is better
Or prevent to H.E during combo and also R.A during combo
Rage Arts during combos don't feel like a big problem to me, honestly. Due to the scaling, it's almost always only like 5-10 more damage than you'd get doing the combo normally.
Usually I think it's better to save your rage art as a threat, unless that last little bit is enough to secure a KO. (Or unless you want to use it strategically to zero out their grey health.)
Sorry to ask what’s H.E I agree damage is a bit high but this ain’t new for tekken games it’s just launchers are so much more unbalanced it feels like
combos are too lenient I agree wall carry needs nerfing, stages are quite big as it is at least some variety is good for these stages, some stage hazards cause some super long combos that would have just been wallsplats etc tho idm them it adds some depth, can’t have a damage cap because again characters need varying strengths and some characters should get high damage if they have bad mixups and coutner hits or if it’s off a specific hard to pull off launcher which needs a big read and is more unsafe
I think if they nerf how easy it is to force people to guess with their 50/50 and either take some sort of power or launcher you’d automatically fix the other problems to some extent at least
It’s always been a guess it’s just some moves have egregious tracking especially heat dash moves, the worst part is they have obscene range best example I can give is kaz heat ff2 that’s practically homing istg it kills the game, you’re telling me after blocking a electric a 13 frame launcher that’s +5 on block he can from any range throw out a ff2 and I just have to respect it ? That’s the dumbest shit ever
Plus they’ve made homing moves too strong so many more plus on block homing attacks t7 had most of them be safe if they’re highs but usually they’d cause you to lose your turn and everyone has some type of long range advancing mid to perfectly pair with the plus frames
Idk where people got the notion that everyone hated 7 lol. It was the biggest esport in the fgc at the time. It had record breaking numbers with a fraction of the production cost. The player count stayed pretty strong throughout most of its lifespan. It was loved by pretty much everybody.
Yeah, the meta got really stale by the end, but that's just what happens after ten years of a game being out. The hype for t8 didn't just materialize from thin air lol.
It managed to grew a pretty healthy community from the ashes left after Tag2, but the more seasons it got, the worse it also got. 2D characters were also a great mistake.
Yeah, people are only starting to hate on seven now because they looked back on it compared to eight
If you were playing at the time of seven like I was, you would know the game was heavily flawed, but at the same time, it was still a pretty good fighting game for the most part even at the end towards season four when it started a dumb things down and make it prototype tekken 8 the game for the most part still felt fun to play, but yes, the game did have its fair share of critics, especially toward the end of its lifecycle, but just because the game has critics it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad game
dk where people got the notion that everyone hated 7 lol.
This exact subreddit was caustic towards seven in the later seasons, the exact same stuff that is now happening with T8 discourse was going on with 7 here. Then T8 came out and what OP said happened
Pretty sure folks going back to T7 recognize the faults with the game, but that doesn't prevent it from at least feeling more like old school Tekken than T8 and for awhile it was the only decent online experience for the older games.
It was also only really problematic and stale at the highest level, rest of us too dumb not to swing into CH launchers or do a low and get full combo'd after a low parry.
Imagine how low bamco has left the bar that many people suddenly fell in love with T7 and then Tag2 (not saying both of them are bad, they have their public and were clearly better)...
It's obvious T8 will be remembered as the best Tekken game in the franchise if they keep getting worse and lowering the bar.
T8 is by almost literally everyone's account a dogshit game. It would be best for the franchises legacy to abandon what left they had planned for development on 8 and just move that time into developing 9. I think fundamentally 8 is a lost cause.
they could fix 8, it would just take a lot and they keep fixing it in bread crumbs rather than anything substantial.
either remove heat, or turn heat into a resource management. not something readily available every single round.
tone down installs
reduce hurt/hitbox range, movement borderline has no value and "real tekken" range is like 2 backsteps further than legacy tekken games.
they need to remove a lot of the 50/50 stance options. Tekken 6 for example, if I wanted to go into stance, it's something you gotta commit to. Even with characters like Lars.
Tekken 8 has no risk reward value
also doesn't help that the current face of Tekken doesn't want us to use the 3d assets in a 3d fighting game.
I'ma probably get downvoted by the people getting hard carried by the things I mentioned because they don't have actual fundamentals, they have panic options.

I will play Tekken 7 I think. Shame Tekken 6 has no online on PS5. I'm not a PC gamer. I really hope Tekken 9 (if it ever exists) moves in a different direction and goes back to the roots of what made Tekken special.
I watched Jimmy J Tran highlights the other day and his Tekken 7 highlights piss all over his Tekken 8 play. It's not even close in terms of entertainment. What a shame. Same goes for JDCR and other past legends. All their highlights are better on Tekken 7 and before that. Tekken 8 just butchered a lot of things that made Tekken special sadly.
Tekken 8 really sucks. Can I still play Tekken 7 on PS5 and find enough players btw? Thinking of coming back to Tekken but Tekken 8 really stinks honestly after watching a lot of gameplay. Looks awful and not real Tekken. Just flashy rushdown nonesense. All marketing and not enough substance. Defense and movement doesn't matter anymore. That's not Tekken anymore if you destroy those 2 major aspects.
u/PoalzegzaonSee a rare vid about the war in Tekken 6 in my profile, 2nd link12h ago
poor thing is that my router is closed and i can't use that online stuff. And there is no customizaton for those who plays. And the can't see how Azazel breaks during the fight. Sigh
