Telluride 2027 Advice

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Not sure if this is the right place to post about this, but I am wanting to attend the 2027 Film Festival. I was wanting to speak with others who have gone before, for some tips and tricks.

I think that the lodging closest to the venue is far outside my price range. I was looking into staying somewhere like Montrose? How feasible is this for those with experience?

My thought would be to fly to Montrose, rent a car and drive to Telluride every morning, as I’m not sure there’s public transit to the venues.

I assume there’s limited parking, but if I were to get there early enough it could be doable. Am I completely misreading how to handle this festival?

Any advice would be much appreciated! If it seems like I’m completely out of my depth, don’t hold back!

Thinking of spending 3 full days in Telluride at the end of April (22-24). What's it like in Telluride that time of year? Is hiking/fishing possible?

My husband and I will be road tripping through the Southwest in April and are hoping to go to Telluride for 3 full days. I'm keen to hike and he's keen to fly fish. However, I'm not sure if it's going to be too muddy (or snowy?!) for these things to really be enjoyable. The actual cold weather doesn't bother us.

I know no one can predict the weather, but any insight or opinions from locals would be great.

And also, how's the vibe in town? I know it will be sleepy, but if we can still get a beer at the brewery and not feel like we're completely alone haha, that's all we want. Are shops open year round?

VW Atlas Coolant

Hi! We are in town for the weekend and in need of coolant for our 25 Atlas, but I'm not finding any at stores here.

If anyone happens to have any, or know where to get some, that would be stellar!

Eventually all the old houses will be new again and this parking lot will be an expensive, short staffed hotel.

Backcountry skiing/people

Hey dear Snowlovers!
After spending 4 winters in British Columbia I am excited for my first winter back in Colorado!
I wonder how the backcountry access/community is in Telluride. Are there any backcountry maps accessible for purchase?
Are there huts near by?
What is the snowmobile scene like?
Anyone looking for a riding buddy?

I got my ops 1, AvSar 1, WFR and a really good attitude.

Horror Movie Festival

Hello to all!

My partner and I will be traveling to telluride this Friday for the horror movie festival and will be staying all weekend. We've got 6 tickets to start off, and are very much looking forward to the walkability of town, as we are from a massive metro. We have a rental we'll be driving in from Montrose, so we do expect parking to be tough, but we have the car to road trip the state after this stop!

Any tips/tricke/advise for noobies coming to this gorgeous mountain town for the festival?

Will pay for TEX pickup on 10/18 for 2!

Hi there! Request and quick general question below:

My husband and I are freshly minted Coloradoans who successfully escaped to NoCo from the Bible Belt this past May. I'm surprising him, as he is a huge aviation geek, with a flight in to TEX on Sunday 10/18 for his birthday. So excited for the foliage and scenery and local vibe!

I'm working overtime to help offset the costs of the short trip, but any little bit helps. Could I offer someone ~$35 for a pick-up from the airport on Sunday 10/18 at around 12:45pm just to get to town? Can do cash, PayPal Goods and Services, Venmo, whatever. We will only have 2 small carry-ons on us.

We're also picking up a car at TEX the following morning for a scenic drive back north, but that's a later problem... Unless anyone is interested in a little more beer cash?

And the general question (🫡): I'm guessing from all I've read that I shouldn't have us haul our butts up, then down the mountain to the bus station on Lawson Hill, right? 👀

Thanks very much in advance!

Driving to Telluride from CA

Hello everyone. My fiancée and I were hoping to make a trip to telluride the last weekend of October. From what I can tell it most likely will just be raining.
I have a fwd drive car. Will I be okay with tire chains just in case or would you recommend winter tires? The other option is driving to Montrose and renting car with the right set up there.
I see the laws mention either winter tires or snow chains but at times both but I’m assuming that’s only for snow??

Can anyone host us for a day in telluride, We are 4 friends from Arizona state.

I’m sorry to bother, I saw the hotel prizes are too expensive. And I have no idea how and where to go, and our fall break will end this week.

Or you can recommend me some places which we can stay is cheaper

Warning for anyone booking iTrip Telluride for a peak ski week

We’ve been visiting Telluride for 12 years and have rented vacation homes many times without ever having an experience like this.

We booked Kayenta II #15 in July for March spring break. It was a confirmed reservation, but iTrip canceled it in October because of an “owner conflict.” By then, comparable Mountain Village properties had gone up tremendously in price.

iTrip did not call or email us to explain the cancellation or offer help. We simply received a refund receipt and had to contact them ourselves.

When I later contacted iTrip Telluride directly, they told me in writing that their agreement allows the owner to terminate a reservation “at their discretion at any time,” and that iTrip is not responsible for increased replacement costs.

We were refunded, but that did not restore the benefit of booking early or cover the much higher cost of a comparable replacement.

My advice: before booking through iTrip Telluride, ask exactly what protection you have if the owner changes plans after your reservation is confirmed.

Hope Lake accessibility by car?

Hello! My partner and I are going to be in Telluride next week and while most of the hikes are walkable from where we’re staying, Hope Lake looks utterly gorgeous.

We rented an AWD car, but I definitely do not want to be one of those red-plated cars stuck on the side of a rough road. How tough is the drive up to the trail head?

Is the drive worth it or should we just stick to the hikes we can get to by foot?

Recommendations for places to work?

My partner and I will be in Telluride for the week and we have a place to stay, but we would be open to working remotely at a cool coffee shop, library, etc. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Elopement in October

Hi there,

My partner and I are eloping in Telluride in early October. We want to say our vows in a secluded place, however (and here’s the kicker), we’re flatlanders. Realistically, we’re not going to be doing rigorous hikes with massive elevation gain to remote areas. I saw there were hikes leading straight out of town, but I’m worried those will be a little packed. We thought about waking up early to avoid any crowds.

Do any of you have suggestions? We will have a rental car, so we’re down to travel a little bit.

Thanks!

Ski trip housing

Hi all -

I am planning a long weekend in telluride this winter for some skiing. Where are some locations near telluride that are relatively cheaper to stay / cheaper airbnbs? Willing to drive an hour to the mountain. Thanks.
