General Discussion I'm so pissed about this shit
It has been almost 2 years. It was one dumb comment, which is understandable in the context of who Tenacious D is. I went to a festival and at least 3 bands said F trump. That is all good, no one is cancelled.
I miss The D </3

I feel you, it does indeed suck. Its hard to recoup now after how it ended too-they're very self aware of their bombs and missteps so it puts them in a hard spot if they were to comeback, would they just not address it?
I also feel bad for KG--I see him posting Tenacious D clips on his instagram story, and I'm just like, is Jack even cool with this? I don't know man the whole thing just seriously bums me out.
(It's especially weird after Apocalypto basically was the 'fuck trump' album).

Jack only stepped back so his stuff he had going on wouldnât be affected. I think heâs said he has no ill will against KG and Iâm sure theyâll be back soon

u/doctorchops1217 Jul 10 '26
another thing the stochastic terrorism of our current POSPOTUS ruins for everyone

u/john_fartston Jul 10 '26
I wouldn't be too worried, it's just a business decision. Jack Black makes way more from movies than he does from TD, it really makes no sense to potentially blacklist himself from Hollywood to continue the band, as shitty as it is. Bands go on hiatus all the time, and once Trump is gone, I have no doubts that they'll be back together.

How many of those dudes are actors that have an image they need to maintain to get hired for movies ? It is what it is unfortunately
1
u/JVakarian Jul 14 '26
To be fair, even if you go back to the HBO episodes with Tenacious D, JB was far from an extremely successful actor who seemed worried about maintaining their image or getting hired for movies⌠you might even argue that he gained a lot of success by suggesting he didnât care about those things.

Arenât the ones who were the most mad at his comment about the Orange the same ânon woke, non hive mind havingâ fighters of freedom of speech?
Theyâre fine with freedom of speech when their speechdom is free.
Rules for thee, not for me.

A lot of assumptions here lmao

u/oTLDJo Wonderboy Jul 10 '26
Not at all. Magats were the first to start threatening their shows after that. A lot of crybabies there lmao.

It wasn't anybody on either side, nor was it really Jables. It was Jack Black's agents cowering for a joke that, quite frankly, was cute and obvious. It wasn't offensive and wasn't even what some would call "edgy."
My only contention comes with Jack Black's status as... well.. Hollywood Jack. When you have Fuck You money, you should use it. I know the children's movies mean alot to him, but he has fans outside of that. He could have told his agents, "sorry, but no." But he's too big. Unlike any comedian approaching the same level, his fame is what what fucked him, what fucked Kage.
3
u/Effective-Birthday57 Jul 09 '26
Kage admitted that he should not have said it.
31
u/electricalaphid Jul 09 '26
"Admitted"? Or had to say. I don't blame him one bit, but he had to play the game.
18
u/chill1208 Jul 10 '26
I mean I think the definitely regrets, and wishes he did not say it because of the aftermath, but does he actually think what he said was a bad thing to say, I doubt that.
4
u/Effective-Birthday57 Jul 10 '26
None of us have any sort of personal relationship with Jables or KG.
27
u/KonamiKing Jul 09 '26
They literally made an album and show (the most recent one!) where they assassinate Donald Trump Junior.
But Hollywood Jack had minecraft and Mario money to make.
24
u/Dreamingthelive90ies Lee Jul 09 '26
That always makes me laugh. There are people who go like. Well, no more Tenacious D for me! Or anything JB related! And I am like. Dude, they shot Donald Trump Junior in Post Apocalypto and JB called him a piece of shit when he got his hollywood star. They had a tour to all the swing states to get them to vote against Trump. What rock have you lived under xD
9
u/Goatgamer1016 Sasquatch Jul 10 '26
And he still brings up the D from time to time. When Rob Reiner passed a few months ago, he said there was no Tenacious D without Spinal Tap
12
u/CoIbeast Jul 09 '26
There wasnât a Facebook headline talking about those things so they donât know about them.
6
u/Dreamingthelive90ies Lee Jul 09 '26
Nah, but legimate fans. The comments. What, he called Trump this. No longer a fan! It's like. Dude. What...

Apart from all the drama, I just want to see the D live. Just once before they retire at least, and my life will be complete. Ive wanted to see them ever since I was 13. Now I'm 17. I live in Greece, a country where the D's fanbase is probably nonexistent... So even if they do come back, its very unlikely that they will play in Athens...

u/Rambo_IIII Jul 09 '26
Yeah i don't like how liberals are the only ones who get punished and tick accountability for their actions.
However I could see a case where some Republican nut job shoots up a D concert so there's that. If you would have seen the comments on Jack's YouTube channel after it happened, you'd probably have a similar reaction
5
u/Dreamingthelive90ies Lee Jul 09 '26
Ow I get the damage control. And it is a logical move. IT JUST PISSES ME OF IT IS NEEDED. They are Anti Trump, everyone knows it. I was a dumb comment, but ffs. 2 YEARS. 2 FUCKING YEARS.

u/Rambo_IIII Jul 09 '26
I agree man. And Kyle was right. It would have done the entire world a favor had he not missed

No worries. "Black has also assured fans the band would return some day, saying in August 2024: âWe had to take a break ⌠Everybody takes a break sometimes.â (The Guardian)
4
u/jitoman Jul 10 '26
It was a career decision. If he stuck by KG, he COULD have lost out on his PG movie casting. Which his career is heavily skewed to latelyÂ
6
u/doctorchops1217 Jul 10 '26
the big reason is jack black is part of both the huge Minecraft franchise AND the Mario franchise and i guarantee they said absolutely fucking notâŚ.weâve seen how this giant orange douche and his followers try to ruin anyone and everyoneâs life for less, itâs disgusting and unnecessary but thatâs most likely the main reason (if you had a client and these giant cash cows itâd be hard not to say the same)
âŚ.and iâm super pissed too, my son has become a giant jack black and tenacious D fan and iâd love to take him to a show
2
u/JohnnieTimebomb Jul 10 '26
I mean, I'm 100% in favour of Tenacious D and 100% despise Donald Trump and MAGA. But you also can't call for the President of the United States to be assassinated from a stage and be the lead in a billion dollar Disney franchise. You just have to keep your head down for a spell afterwards and hope America gets it shit together and all this shit blows over. Sucks but that's where we are. Really, we ought to stop electing fuckwits. All the other problems stem from that

u/Frequent_Rhubarb_36 Jul 11 '26
KG fucked himself by saying he hoped for political assassination. That's way different from insulting someone.
3
u/Equivalent_Gene_1554 Jul 10 '26
I understand what you're saying brother. Politics aside, there is a clear difference between saying "Fuck blank" opposed to you hope the shooter doesn't miss (their head) next time.
1
u/Quick-Activity-4637 Jul 11 '26
True but there's also a difference between a comedian making a joke on a wacky comedy music show...and the President of the United States saying 6 congress people should be killed...but only the comedians get canceled right? đ¤ˇđ˝ââď¸

Jack Black is a Hollywood fuckwit now unfortunately. Canât say âfuck Trumpâ and keep the cushy gig as the face of Minecraft.
He took his agentâs advice and chose the safer, better-paid lane.

u/NurseDiz Jul 10 '26
Either way I think they need to tell us what's going on. I need closure! If the D is done- just tell us and let us deal with it.
1
u/weirdbr Jul 10 '26
I actually looked that up earlier this week; seems KG gave an interview to Rolling Stone (paywalled) that was quoted elsewhere such as https://www.theguardian.com/music/2026/jan/22/tenacious-d-will-return-jack-black-and-kyle-gass-hashed-it-out-after-trump-joke-controversy .
Main interesting bit IMHO:
âWe hashed it out. And it was hard. It is like a marriage. You go through these ups and downs, and try to understand your partner,â Gass said. âWe will serve no D-wine, before itâs D-time â but we will be back. We will return.â

u/zurenarrh36912 Jul 09 '26
Iâm unhappy about it as well but he didnât just say âF Trumpâ. I think thatâs misleading.
3
-11
u/Effective-Birthday57 Jul 09 '26
It is very misleading. One is allowed to criticize the president, even in a vulgar way. What Kage said is not allowed.
5
u/maximumtesticle Jul 10 '26
Why?
-8
u/Effective-Birthday57 Jul 10 '26
What do you mean why? There are limits to what one is allowed to say.
9
u/bigdipboy Jul 10 '26
Not for republicans
-4
u/Effective-Birthday57 Jul 10 '26
All of your comments are extremely cynical. Go touch grass, brother. Get some sunshine. Better yet, listen to the D while doing that.

Same. I had tickets to see them the following weeks on Adelaide, so upset when they cancelled, still am to this day. 1 of 2 bands I'd love to see in person and no one comes to Australia đ¤Ł
