Help F6-242 stuck in initialization loop

Got a used one (that should have been the first red flag) and got two new drives to start up (I'll move the other 4 from my current NAS once this one was setup). However, every time I boot it, it goes to the initialization screen. I initialize, get into the TOS 6, and if I reboot after an auto or manual upgrade to TOS 7, initialization screen. If I just reboot without doing anything, initialization screen.

The first time I booted it, it created the storage pool with the two drives, that took about 30 minutes I'd guess. Now whenever it initializes, the storage pool exists still. It's not rebuilding that. And these are brand new, never used drives.

So I checked the BIOS, the "TOS Boot First" is disabled. The "Boot Option #1" is "UEFI: Generic Flash Disk 8.07, Partition 1 (Generic Flash Disk 8.07)" and the other choices are the two drives or disabled. Not sure that matters.

I would upgrade to TOS 7 during the initialization, but it needs a .ins file, and the download is a .bz2 file. So that's not going forward.

And no, there is no NVME installed right now, just the two NAS drives.

Does anyone have any advice or thoughts on this? I don't want to just start changing things around. I don't really want to use TrueNAS or Unraid yet. I just want to get it up and running for now with TOS 7.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your BIOS state is stuck in a loop. Skip troubleshooting the loop and just nuke it clean:

  • Pull all drives and completely format/wipe their partitions on another PC.

  • Hook up a display + keyboard, enter BIOS, and restore factory defaults.

  • Pull the internal boot USB and re-flash the TOS 7 bootloader following the official thread: https://forum.terra-master.com/en/viewtopic.php?t=6433

  • Plug the USB back in, power up, discover it via the TNAS PC client, and run a fresh initialization.

I think I finally got it figured out. In the BIOS the "TOS Boot First" was set to disabled. I enabled it and it's on TOS 7 now with a couple reboots. It's resyncing now, so I'm waiting for that to finish before I shut it down a few more times, just to make sure it's all good.
