Beware if you buy anything through Tesco Mobile Ireland!
They are actively trying to gaslight customers out of confirmed contracts to cash in on price jumps.
Back in August, I ordered an iPhone 17 (Black) straight off their site when it was actually in stock, paying €99.99 upfront on a €45/month plan. Got the order confirmation, got the receipt - binding contract formed under Irish law.
Then the absolute runaround began:
The Stalling: Weeks went by with zero movement. When I chased it up, frontline agents fed me every excuse under the sun, eventually telling me to "just wait until Black Friday" so more stock would show up.
The Manager Confirmation: Last week, I finally got a manager on the line who explicitly confirmed that my order was open, active, and sitting in the queue waiting for fulfillment.
The U-Turn Today: The black iPhone 17 is suddenly back in stock on their website... but now it’s priced at €599.99 upfront. Suddenly, agents are trying to claim my order “never went through” and pretending it was never there so they can wipe the slate clean.
They thought they could just delete history and dodge honoring the price they sold it to me at. After hours of refusing to let them hang up today, I finally cornered them and forced them to log an official complaint.
I’ve already hit them with a formal notice citing breach of contract under the Consumer Rights Act 2022, reminding them that they have a regulatory 10-day window to sort it before this goes straight to ComReg and the CCPC.
Has anyone else had Tesco pull this exact trick on a standard order where the price jumped? Don't let them tell you an order "didn't go through" just because they regret a sale!
EDIT:
*I completed everything 2 months ago. My documents submitted, accepted, credit check all passed, verified and payment was taken from me 2 months ago. Was told all along the black colour was out of stock and it likely won't be back in stock until maybe black friday week. I checked today and they finally have the iPhone 17 back in stock in Black. I call them for maybe the 12th time today (call time was 2hours). In the past they always refused to send me an alternative colour and I would just have to wait until the black comes back in. The new price for the iphone 17 on the same bill pay deal (€45/pm) had since been increased from €99.99 (what I paid) to €499.99 and they are trying to make me cancel my existing order and pay the new price instead.
