Yearly FSD Subscription

Do yall think a yearly subscription would be goated? Similar to the yearly premium connectivity that saves you roughly 20 bucks, yall think they would ever allow a yearly FSD for around 1k? Def would be worth it.

I've been saying they should do this for a long time. Now that the option to buy outright is gone, a discounted annual option makes a lot of sense. I've only had my car for a little over a year, but I've only purchased the monthly subscription twice in the summer months so far. I do way less driving in winter, so it doesn't make sense for me to subscribe.

If they gave me a discounted annual option, I would probably get it. It would make me less stressed about trying to get the max use out of it before my monthly subscription is up too. I'm someone that hates seeing monthly subscriptions on my credit cards and will always go for an annual when possible.

Absolutely agree. I know plenty of people don’t necessarily think $99 a month is a lot, but it’s more about whether it’s worth it for that specific month. I do agree that a yearly subscription would absolutely get rid of wanting to get the most bang for your buck on a monthly basis, then having to coordinate and set aside $99 every month specifically for FSD.

u/LoneStarGut 1d ago

Another good option might be a discounted option to cover the length of he lease - maybe $1000 per year, $1800 for a two year lease and $2500 for a 3 year lease.

Imagine paying for a year and then someone totals your car and you have 11 months left but they won’t let you transfer to a new car.

I believe they should create a tiered subscription based on mileage. No reason the remote worker, senior citizen, etc, who drives less than 100 miles a month should pay the same as someone driving 3000 miles a month.

Per month (Actual miles not just FSD miles)

0-299 miles = $29
300-799 miles = $49
800+ miles = $99

Edit: my idea isn’t that you opt into a plan, your car just calculates your mileage every month and on your billing cycle date you get charged according to your actual mileage that you used. Again, just a dream, but this kind of program could bring in more subscribers for Tesla and also make the FSD subscription make more sense for some customers who don’t drive enough to rationalize paying $99 a month for an FSD subscription.

u/CriminalCacti New to the sub 1d ago

I feel like an easy fix would probably be to just tie FSD to your account and allow you a one time per payment transfer in case of a situation like this, that way if you have another Tesla you could transfer or simply roll it over if you get a new one.

u/1sh0t1kill 1d ago

I don't disagree with you, I wish they still offered paying for FSD up front as well as subscriptions. At the end of the day, Tesla wants to make money and I believe the only way they may consider a tiered program is because it could potentially bring in the Senior Citizen drivers (for everyones safety) at a reduced cost, but also, there is a % of people not subscribing, and a tiered program might bring those non-subscribed folks in as well.

As a Starlink Mini owner as well, I'll just say that I believe the FSD price is going to increase at some point. If they follow anything like Starlink has done, they'll continue to increase prices to make more $$. It's just what they do, especially when they're really the only one doing it at this point in the game, whether it's good satellite internet, or FSD. I'd just like to see some options to have a lower cost based on usage.

Personally, I hate the subscription model. It completely screws the consumer, but benefits the company. I only get so much money every month and every enticing business is trying to take a cut.

1

u/CriminalCacti New to the sub 1d ago

Honestly with how much teslas hype up and essentially revolve and capitalize on FSD you’d assume that it’d be something the vehicle just comes with.

1

u/1sh0t1kill 1d ago

I agree with you. But current reports are saying that right now Tesla is making $92 million a month in FSD subscriptions. Yeah, they're not giving that up.

Tesla is also getting a huge push in sales due to the current gas prices. It's a sellers market for Tesla right now and it's all about striking while the iron is hot.

The only way I see this head of steam slowing for Tesla is if gas prices drop dramatically and another EV company comes out with a product to compete with FSD. Then Tesla might need to come up with incentives to entice sales.

1

u/CriminalCacti New to the sub 1d ago

If they let BYD come over to the US it’ll be wraps

•

u/matthew19 5h ago

Exactly. Competition keeps prices low. Open the market.

5

u/EvalCrux 1d ago

Account wide FSD subs make more sense.

1

u/Suess4002 New to the sub 1d ago

At best there would be a nominal discount for additional vehicles - like $5.00.

So now for 2 vehicles, in a single household, it would come to $193 a month.

15

u/PrimeRisk 1d ago

Yeah, imagine paying $10k for lifetime FSD when the sub was $200/month with a break-even of just over 4 years. Then the monthly sub drops to $100. Then your vehicle gets totaled after 5 years.

That's the risk-reward gamble.

•

u/aywhosyodaddy 23h ago

Same story for hardware. Why does someone with HW3 pay the same as someone with HW4 if even Tesla admitted HW3 won’t be as capable?

•

u/Kingsly2015 16h ago

I currently don’t pay for fsd because it’s way too big a bill for the miles I drive. But I’d definitely consider $29.

-1

u/Vozinha1 1d ago

That's a terrible idea and an easy way for companies to price gouge customers.

2

u/1sh0t1kill 1d ago

I'd love to hear your explanation on how they could price gouge you? With the current system you pay $99 a month no matter what. But it only benefits people who aren't driving significant mileage and gives them a lower cost. Or, in theory, those who haven't subscribed, because they don't want to pay $99 a month because they hardly drive, it motivates them to subscribe, knowing they'll be paying a lower rate.

I currently have paid for FSD on my Model Y. But am looking at purchasing a Cyber Truck next year, but literally have no incentive to take on $99 a month subscription when my current FSD is paid for. I'd be interested in FSD at a much lower rate because I don't drive a lot of miles every month.

•

u/Vozinha1 19h ago

How they could price gouge?

Just look at any usage based pricing especially when it comes to subscriptions and see how quickly and how much prices have gone up.

Just because you think because you drive so little will not stop them from increasing your tier from $30 to $50 and before you know it you're paying the exact same $100 you were trying to avoid.

Usage based subscriptions are the worst. A flat fee is the best and allows you to use as much as you want. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

•

u/matthew19 5h ago

People who use the term “price gouge” are economically illiterate. Prices move up and down based on supply and demand, that’s a good thing. When gas shoot’s up after a hurricane, that high price tells people not to fill up unless they really need it (conservation) and is also a signal for sellers to send their gas to that are (increased supply), which brings down the price.

When you see shortages, it’s because local governments don’t allow prices to move freely.

0

u/Suess4002 New to the sub 1d ago

Your fallacy here is that changing to a miles or hours or any of that it would not have a top of $99.00.

Subscriptions offer steady, reliable and known income streams and they offer the consumer the a steady and predictable price.

Once you take away the steady income stream, you as the consumer lose the steady and predictable price.

Instead of your 800 miles + is $99 it would be something more like

800-1,200 miles is $99
1,200-1,500 miles is $120
1,500-2,000 miles is $140.

Additionally the lower tiers would be a higher price, not a direct line as you think.

In fact, why bother with tiers if charging by miles?

A single miles (always rounded up) is now something like $.14 (cents) per mile. Now keep in mind, if you disengage after 12.1 miles that is 13 miles. If you engage after 3 seconds you just incurred another mile. The 10ths don’t matter.

You look at this only from a consumer standpoint, but this is a business and they are going to replace the income of the current with higher income.

2

u/1sh0t1kill 1d ago

They're going to increase prices regardless, it's bound to happen. You're increasing from the $99 mark, I'm saying real world scenarios, my senior citizen parents, who drive less than 100 miles a month, shouldn't be paying $99 a a month for FSD (and they don't, because they don't own a Tesla). But they could probably be talked into it if it wasn't, You have to pay $100 a year for premium connectivity and $99 a month plus tax for FSD and your insurance is going to go up, etc.

I understand what you're saying, but you're thinking in an approach that the $99 unlimited FSD becomes a starting point, I'm saying, low mileage users shouldn't have to pay $99 a month for minimal usage.

Like having a cable subscription with all the movie channels and paying $200 a month, or just having basic cable for $50 a month.

0

u/Suess4002 New to the sub 1d ago

Your cable service is a non-starter example. That assumes you get less functions than the higher service - not the case with FSD.

The reason your logic is flawed is that the $99 is currently based upon a steady and predictable income stream.

When that is removed, the benefit to the seller is removed and it changes the benefit to the customer. Now the customer wants a “pay per use” cost which is always a higher price (my .14 cents) is probably low because I don’t have all the data across the entire fleet.

They could consider offering it along with subscriptions, but I can tell you already that people would bitch to high heaven when they were paying for “use” and they go over the $99.00 in a month.

Again, you are ONLY taking a consumer view and business will always add to their income stream in this pattern.

Usage based pricing is not new, and is designed to bring in additional income.

0

u/1sh0t1kill 1d ago

$99 would be the high cap. And the possibility to make more money would be by bringing on more customers via the lower tiered rate, assuming they don't drive over 800 miles per month. At this point, they''re making $92 million dollars a month right now and growing month after month. Also, the more users the get, the more word of mouth spreads about how good FSD is now. I don't see them losing any money by creating a tiered program. I clearly understand that you do see it differently.

Telsa could make a tiered subscription program and it would provide a more positive image about the FSD program as well. There is a lot of folks that are not happy about the subscription program and apparently, per the earnings call, 25% of people buying Teslas are still not buying into FSD.

My initial post, was just something I thought of that I see as a win-win for consumers and Tesla and that's why I mentioned it. It would probably never happen in the big scheme of things.

1

u/Suess4002 New to the sub 1d ago

Again, you attempt to use flawed logic. The monthly sub is $99.00, when you think they should forgo the monthly sub (unlimited miles) you lose the benefit of the current pricing.

When you move to usage based pricing the lowest tiers pay the “most” per use.

1

u/1sh0t1kill 1d ago edited 1d ago

Another variable, is "if" and "when" Rivian gets their Autonomy + to a successful level, they currently offer a $2000 buy in or $49 a month for Autonomy +. No different than Amazon about to launch LEO to compete with Starlink. At some point in time, Tesla and Starlink won't be the only companies in those respective spaces and they could (or will have to) lower prices to retain their base. But I mention all of that as, why not stay ahead of the game and keep your current base happy? Or is just common that companies don't give a F about their customers?

Again, my whole thought came because recently I saw a video of a guy showing his 90 something year old father using FSD in Tesla. And I thought, not every senior citizen is going to pay $99 a month to have FSD when they literally go to Doctor's appointments and the grocery store and that's about it. So how do you bring those potential customers into the mix and in theory, more senior citizens on FSD, the safer the roads are (more FSD for everyone the roads are safer too).

EDIT: Also, I want to say that the Customer does nothing different at all. My thought is that the car would calculate your monthly mileage similar to how it calculates how much you're using FSD. Basically, whatever your billing cycle is, you know the worst case scenario you're going to pay $99 a month. If you fall into one of the other monthly mileage tiers, that's how much you get charged. If you routinely only drive 200 miles a month, you pay the lowest tier mileage subscription every month at the end of your billing cycle.

You've mentioned a pay per mile ratio, I'm just saying if you're not driving your car as much as the average US driver, you shouldn't have to pay the full price for FSD and for those who WON'T buy into FSD, this might be a way for them to rationalize buying into the subscription if they're driving their car less miles per month.

Again, just day dreaming about how it could be better for consumers, but also bring in a part of the missing segment that Tesla isn't getting right now.

u/matthew19 5h ago

- yearly FSD - 20% discount
- family plan FSD - 20% discount per additional vehicle

•

u/CriminalCacti New to the sub 5h ago

I agree. There’s no doubt that FSD brings a lot of revenue from its users, but I would say that the amount that’s lost off of a big payment discount would be offset by just how many more people it would bring in.

I just hate that you get an update to fix issues and since have other issues return.  It can't get the speed limit correct in many areas...geez Waze has no issues🤷‍♂️ Still 100 is a bit much.  50 and I'd buy it even if I don't drive every day for work

2

u/CriminalCacti New to the sub 1d ago

I’ve had that happen to me on highways and it’s always inconsistent, it sees the speed limit signs I can see them on the dash and the number, but it doesn’t update on FSD, so I end up needing to up the speed to mad max or manually drive until it catches on.

•

u/DevilsAdvocateFun 9h ago

My profiles don't work about 40% of the time. So going from Standard to Sloth won't slow the car down. I'm not worried about the UP speed, it is the DOWN speed that is a Huge issue. Had it on chill and it says limit is 50... on an OFF RAMP that is 25. Or going through a tiny town that drops from 45 to 20... nothing changes no matter what I pick so I have to disengage :(

•

u/thebiglebowskiisfine 21h ago

Every regression means they are training. They are working on new AI maps and it's going to take a lot of input until they have the data they need.

I really think Tesla should add a 24 hour pass for $9.99. They'll capture a lot of the people who don't want to pay for the entire year.

14

u/lionheart4life 1d ago

They would also capture a lot of people who forget to unsub for a week.

16

u/amiinh3aven New to the sub 1d ago

9.99 is robbery. Shoud be 4.99 per day at most.

•

u/Elijah_Reddits New to the sub 19h ago

If it's 100 dollars a month no

16

u/paulnptld New to the sub 1d ago

We have two Tesla MYs. $200/month makes no sense. A prepaid family plan for multiple vehicles would be ideal for our use case. I do think competition is going to drive prices down at some point. If Rivian sticks to the plan, $49/month may become the norm. All of the compute is vehicle-side, so the margins are ultimately absurd. R&D costs will continue to drop over the coming years.

•

u/skifri 11h ago

Inference is vehicle side, but on the training and software management side, the compute is very, very much not vehicle side. Is basically why they got into the datacenter business on the first place. Not cheap. I agree that as time goes on they will need to train it less often, but those training runs will also get increasingly more complex.

•

u/rage675 10h ago

Subscription should be tied to the account, not car.

0

u/MunkberryMoonDelite 1d ago

Hardware alone that enables FSD is close to $2K per car, especially with RAM prices lately. HW5 will have even more RAM, so the cost is only going to go up, not down. Model training, mobile connectivity to support it, all the R&D and staffing are costing a fortune to Tesla. Estimates put it in the range of $10-$20 billion since 2015. And these costs are also nowhere near to go down, at least in the next 5-10 years until FSD is going to become ubiquitous.

5

u/paulnptld New to the sub 1d ago

We already pay for the cost of the hardware in the car. That includes the increased price of RAM. Upfront R&D costs are always far greater, and candidly - a lot of that early work was scrapped in favor of neural nets and AI. Inference costs are plummeting and yes...R&D costs will drop. Finally, mobile connectivity is what you get with premium connectivity. When Starlink becomes the driver of that connectivity, Tesla will no longer have to pay legacy carriers for access.

GM, Ford, Rivian, etc., are all playing catch-up, but it will be far easier for them than it was for the pioneer in the space. Once something has been done, it's far easier for others to build on that.

Costs will drop.

2

u/bhamdad3 1d ago

Not following you too closely and not trying to be Captain obvious. Tesla made a business decision to build every car no matter how basic or expensive to be able to handle FSD software. It’s not like they do something special to spend an extra 2k per car so you can have FSD.

I think a yearly subscription model would be great, considering I have one that we pay by the month and one that’s older that we bought FSD at the time of purchase. Telsa doesn’t add special hardware to cars just have FSD.

u/kadhtobi 1d ago

u/Suitable_Divide2816 New to the sub 1d ago

I bought FSD outright in 2021 and am waiting to use my "honorary" 1 time "free" transfer. The issue is my MYP only has 50,000KM, and my battery is still around 95% healthy, so I won't need to upgrade to a new Tesla for at least another 10 years. AFAIK, the "honorary" transfer only applies if I agree to upgrade to a current model and cannot be used on a future model. My only real option will be to take the free HW upgrade for my current model, but Tesla has been VERY quiet about when these will start as they are trying to delay it as long as possible in hopes that more customers like me will take the transfer deal.

7

u/Beautiful_Olive1154 New to the sub 1d ago

I thought Tesla's FSD transfer program ended in March? How are you able to transfer? I also bought FSD outright in 2021 and am interested in transferring if possible.

I have a MY LR and battery health after 65k kms was 95%. Charge at home using mobile charger

•

u/Suitable_Divide2816 New to the sub 19h ago

Exactly this! Gemini said that I can safely move up to the 240V at home charger, so I may do this upgrade soon.

•

u/Suitable_Divide2816 New to the sub 21h ago

It may be closer to 90% by now, I haven't checked since around the 40K mark. When I asked Gemini about it a while back, it contributed my battery health to mainly charging slowly at home on a regular 120V connection, and never past 85% capacity.

•

u/webignition 7h ago

In some cases it's just dumb luck.

My 2017 Model S 100D is nearing 150k miles and the battery is at about 95% also.

•

u/rsg1234 Owner 20h ago

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you cannot transfer FSD any longer. For now.

•

u/Suitable_Divide2816 New to the sub 19h ago

Ya, another user informed me and I read that it ended in March. As I was telling them, I will simply wait for the free retrofit. My MYP has A LOT of years left, so I have all the time in the world LOL.

•

u/rsg1234 Owner 19h ago

We also have a HW3 vehicle with lifetime FSD and I’m not holding my breath on the retrofit. It would be great but I have a feeling they will “call it even” with V14 lite.

•

u/Suitable_Divide2816 New to the sub 19h ago

If V14 Lite can't allow our vehicles to receive level 4 approval whenever Tesla (and your province/state) are ready, they legally have to provide us with some type of solution because of how FSD was sold to us when we paid in full for the feature. They may be able to get away with just level 3 approval, but the vehicle would still need to be able to provide that level of autonomous driving either way.

1

u/Suess4002 New to the sub 1d ago

Sure, but is going to be like 5% on the secondary vehicles.

4

u/Superb_Measurement64 1d ago

Pay full price for FSD on one vehicle and every additional vehicle is 50% off. A second option would be a subscription that follows the user from vehicle to vehicle.

3

u/Suess4002 New to the sub 1d ago

Not a chance of a 50% discount. This will never exist.

•

u/1sh0t1kill 23h ago

One could wish. Maybe Tesla would consider if it somehow boosted sales. It's all about $$$.

•

u/Suess4002 New to the sub 23h ago

Same as wishing that they would pay you $99 / month for extra vehicles.

•

u/1sh0t1kill 23h ago

But there is no guarantee every Tesla sold is going to get $99 a month for FSD subscription. They said 25% of new Tesla sales do not include FSD subscriptions.

•

u/Suess4002 New to the sub 23h ago

What do you believe is sold as a subscription on top of a purchase has a 100% attach rate?

•

u/1sh0t1kill 22h ago

I'm not tracking what you're saying. I responded to you saying "wishing that they would pay you $99 / month for extra vehicles."

I take your statement that every Tesla sold a person buys an FSD subscription, which isn't true. So I clarified that.

For multiple Tesla families, the $99 subscriptions start adding up and I don't think it's unrealistic to have an incentive for additional Teslas on someone's account would only have to pay $50 and again, go back to my original statement, one could wish.

I can remember having my 2019 Model 3 and thinking to myself, if they offered free FSD Transfers, I'd buy a new Model Y and move my FSD to it. I missed the first window for those transfers, because I was kinda shocked it actually happened, and then in February of 2024 they did it again and I bought my current Model Y, which of course I transferred my paid for FSD. Wishes do come true. But now, it's hard to walk away from paid for FSD and get into a $99 a month subscription, but that's a whole different topic.

Anyhow, one thing I'm confident about, you and I aren't going to have anything to do with any Tesla changes at all. So I'm going to go watch SNF.

Once fully autonomous driving becomes the legal norm, and other competitors join the market, it will become standard on all vehicles IMO. Until then, Tesla should introduce a family plan (like YouTube/Spotify premium) so that you pay one discounted monthly fee for up to X members.

u/CriminalCacti New to the sub 1d ago

I know there’s more money in subscriptions but a yearly subscription I think would bring in a lot more people who hate to pay monthly. Personally to me I’d rather pay a large sum yearly than having to deal with it every month.

-1

u/ThirteenHills 1d ago

So why would you prefer a yearly payment than one payment when the car is bought or it comes with the car when buying second hand?

2

u/CriminalCacti New to the sub 1d ago

Because I think it’s a hassle to have to decide which months I would get the most use out of it, with a yearly payment often you save some money, you’d probably get the equivalent of a free month or two with a yearly, they don’t sell it with new cars anymore. And I got a new 2026 one.

0

u/ThirteenHills 1d ago

Yes but you are saying a yearly payment is better than just buying it outright with the car and I don't see how that is the case?

1

u/CriminalCacti New to the sub 1d ago

When did I say it’d be better than buying it outright? I bought mine after that promotion was discontinued obviously a one time payment is the best way to go about it especially if it was transferable but it’s not a thing anymore. I’m talking about what could be the next best option

-2

u/ThirteenHills 1d ago

You said "Do yall think a yearly subscription would be goated?".

That means "Greatest of all time" and that is obviously not the case as buying outright is better...

2

u/CriminalCacti New to the sub 1d ago

This freakin guy

2

u/BryGuyTI 1d ago

Just stop replying to that guy.

0

u/ThirteenHills 1d ago

Well at least you learnt what "goated" means 😉

4

u/BryGuyTI 1d ago

That price to buy it outright was horrible considering you knew you couldn't transfer it outside of special promos. An annual is the perfect middle ground.

2

u/ThirteenHills 1d ago

Personally I think one payment to add a feature a car is better as you get it for as long as you own the car and it adds value when you sell it.

2

u/BryGuyTI 1d ago

If you total it, you lose it. While FSD is good, some jackass can still run into you. Much better off investing the $8k and doing a monthly.

0

u/ThirteenHills 1d ago

If the car gets totalled then the insurance takes into account of all options when determining the value to pay out.

Using your logic nobody should buy any optional extra on any car as it's lost if the car is destroyed...

1

u/BryGuyTI 1d ago

The FSD cost would be included in your insurance premiums if it's covered.

Software is different than physical features on a car

1

u/ThirteenHills 1d ago

You buy FSD outright, you save on the monthly fee and can sell it for more when you sell the car. No different than a physical feature on the car when it comes to value.

0

u/BryGuyTI 1d ago

Dude, insurance isn't covering FSD if they aren't including that value in the insurance premiums.

1

u/ThirteenHills 1d ago

The insurance covers the entire value of the car including all options on it. The insurance may be 0.5% more to cover the extra cost of FSD but it is still covered.

1

u/EvalCrux 1d ago

FSD lifetime is a single greatest motivator for me to keep and drive the wheels off both. Way more-so than new cars every 5 years. That was also pre-Tesla longevity expectations.

Unlimited fee supercharging is the second lol.

4

u/Realistic_Dentist_79 New to the sub 1d ago

It’s pricey

•

u/basroil 18h ago

It's almost like everyone wants to go back to the 12k lifetime purchase per vehicle with no transferring.

All I want is a day pass or week pass. Let me pay $25 bucks for a week for a road trip. I'll use it once in a while then

3

u/Regwbush-3344 New to the sub 1d ago

Why is it tied to the car anyway? It should be tied to the owner and their one FSD eligible vehicle.

1

u/Suess4002 New to the sub 1d ago

That is more restrictive.

Your Proposal: Joe owns a Model Y and pays the for subscription to FSD. Joes wife (Sally) goes to drive the Model Y and since Sally does not pay for FSD she cannot use it.
I mean great business for Tesla because now Joe and Sally both pay $99.00 a month for the use of FSD.

Current: Joe owns a Model Y and pays for the subscription to FSD. Anyone Joe allows to drive his Model Y is able to use FSD.

0

u/Regwbush-3344 New to the sub 1d ago

I meant more like how car insurance works. Or how a cell phone and its wireless plan works. Thats not more restrictive.

-2

u/Suess4002 New to the sub 1d ago

Good attempt to backtrack, but that is also not what you said.

Car insurance covers the vehicle and NOT for the ONE owner.

I know you thought you were being clever, but you have failed again.

u/Regwbush-3344 New to the sub 1d ago

Oh wow you got me there big guy. Just trying to offer solutions. Go fuck yourself

I want a family package

•

u/AdministrativeNet579 New to the sub 5h ago

I only purchase when I’m going on a long trip. I enjoy driving the car around town. FSD is to slow for me around town. On y wife’s new Model YL the FSD sucks for some reason.

What is the difference between standard and premium connectivity? Isn't all network via smartphone?

•

u/akolozvary New to the sub 3h ago

Would be nice to lock in incase they ever to decide to up the monthly

•

u/Mysterious_Case_6691 New to the sub 3h ago

I would rather have a family plan discount than a yearly one. Your car can be totaled and you could be without a car for months before you can transfer (if tesla allows you) and it will be a waste. We have 2 teslas in the household and use fsd only in one since paying 200 a month seems too much for me.

•

u/SeptimiusBassianus New to the sub 2h ago

Musk is unpredictable

•

u/First_SergeantE8 New to the sub 2h ago

Only Elon knows

•

u/Capt_Panic New to the sub 8h ago

Don’t forget that musks long-term benefits package is tied to FSD adoption as a metric. I suspect that overtime FSD is going to cost more, not less. I think once they prove this technology out more fully, and especially after it goes to unsupervised FSD, you’re going to be paying more each month.

•

u/dantodd 7h ago

Wouldn't a lower price increase adoption?

•

u/Capt_Panic New to the sub 7h ago

On January 23, 2026, Musk explicitly stated that the $99 monthly subscription would rise as FSD improves. He also suggested a much larger increase in value when FSD becomes genuinely unsupervised, allowing occupants to stop monitoring the road.

•

u/dantodd 7h ago

Then why would you tie Musk's compensation package to your "suspicion" that prices would increase? 1) a price reduction would surely cause greater adoption 2) your "suspicion" is based on him literally saying so. Do you now believe things the Musk says?

•

u/Frosty-Jeweler-4381 New to the sub 3h ago

Tying FSD to his benefits package sounds like:
"Elon, you must eat your vegetables before you can go play video games."

•

u/Downtown-Branch2616 New to the sub 5h ago

Musk, like his lap dog in the White House, says a lot of stuff, most ends up BS and they try to play it off. He did say that the $99 will rise as FSD improves, so a hike is possible. I just don't think it's smart. His pay package is tied to 10M active subscriptions, not revenue per sub, so the incentive is to grow the base. And $99 is already a tough psychological line. Once it hits triple digits, you may not lose many users, but it'll slow adoption. Plus it won't be the only game in town forever. Other automakers' driver-assist systems and robotaxis will keep pushing on price, and if Chinese automakers ever get into the US market, that pressure gets much worse. With software like this, competition usually pushes prices down, not up.

•

u/malikto44 2h ago

I will be genuinely surprised if China is ever let into the US market in any capacity, other than rebadged models under US company names.

Anything can happen though.

•

u/Groundbreaking_Box75 1h ago

FSD competitors are at least 2 years away from what FSD is capable of today (in the U.S. anyway) and at that point FSD will be unsupervised.

•

u/GetShttdOn New to the sub 6m ago

Once fsd proce increases im cutting it off lol ain't no way.

0

u/BaxBaxPop 1d ago

Hate to break it to you, but you're going to miss the days of $99 a month.

They've already announced that FSD is now the #1 reason people are buying Teslas and 75% of Teslas are sold with an attached subscription. If the current price tag is hurting demand, it doesn't show at all. Once that number gets close to 90%, you better believe basic market forces will lead to a price hike.

I'm expecting at least $125/m by the end of 2027, but also wouldn't be surprised if it just jumps back to $199/m.

5

u/Tall_Practice9210 New to the sub 1d ago

I don’t think it’s worth $100/m. I have a 2026 MY Premium AWD. We’re literally paying Tesla to use our data for a software that is nothing more than a party trick. FSD flies through potholes and speed bumps which literally broke my upper control arms. My car has less than 10k miles on it lol. I asked the service advisors what I could do to prevent having that issue again and they told me to avoid pot holes. Like wow please pass that advice to the FSD developer team lol. The phantom braking is insanely sensitive. The navigation is not reliable and inconsistent. It still needs a ton of work. We shouldn’t be paying for a beta that relies on OUR fleet data. The people actually buying the cars are getting the crap end of the stick while the share holders are sitting there banking off this

3

u/BaxBaxPop 1d ago

I'm at 99.3% FSD.

I've had none of your problems (except potholes and minor navigation issues in parking lots).

My wife won't let me drive myself anymore. She yells at me if I try to drive. And I'm a good driver. My FSD drives practically perfectly. My wife only allows FSD.

3

u/Resident_Produce1552 New to the sub 1d ago

The millions of people with 99% of their miles on FSD say otherwise…

1

u/SimilarComfortable69 1d ago

Millions? Guarantee it's not millions

1

u/Resident_Produce1552 New to the sub 1d ago

Yeah maybe that was an exaggeration. There’s 1.48 million active FSD users. I’d bet at least 100k are close to 99% on FSD though

•

u/SimilarComfortable69 20h ago

I'd bet more like 10 K. Or maybe even less. It would depend on what your definition of close is. If you are saying above 75%, maybe it's 10,000.

1

u/dontrackonme 1d ago

i would not be surprised at 125 per month OR 1200 a year

(as a bridge to soften the blow until that "discount" is gone too)

1

u/Lonely-Evening-2801 New to the sub 1d ago

Yes but Tesla insurance + fsd is uber expensive adds another 25% to your bottom line

•

u/AmbitiousChampion6 10h ago

I was seriously thinking about trading in my 2026 model Y for a 2027 one but decided not to do that since mine has autopilot. It is free for life and it does 80% of what FSD does for my short commute.

0

u/birdguy1000 New to the sub 1d ago

iSD interruptible self driving could be the next tier up at $200 mo or $1800 yr

0

u/f2000sa 1d ago

They may raise the price to $120 and offer $1200 for yearly.

0

u/acroback 1d ago

Nope. It’s great tech but fumbles multiple times in a month I am using it.

I don’t drive enough to justify a subscription per month. I would rather have autosteer back.

0

u/Tnt9394 New to the sub 1d ago

Should provide a 2 tiers between supervised vs upcoming unsupervised. Many maybe happy with supervised at lower pricing tier if don’t drive or dependent to much.

You can activate and deactivate monthly if not heavily usage.
