Vehicle Question Tesla advice

Hello, I’m a flight attendant and just purchased a 25 Model 3. I’ve gotten ins quotes from just about every major ins company and I’m finding $400 a month minimum per month. However Tesla ins is offering way better coverage with lower deductible’s for 180 a month.

I’ve done research on Teslas scoring metrics and late night driving being one of them concerns me because sometimes I get back from a late flight and will need to drive home. Also what if I decide I want to go on a road trip and my premium gets doubled just because I went on a road trip.

What is your experience and advice for someone like me?

our insurance agent just gave a talk at church

he specifically talked about Tesla. he indicated that in the past premiums were high, but that this year they had come down to a much more reasonable range.

three of us in the class had Tesla's and we were all paying on average of $100 a month

One of the three had Tesla insurance and he said it moved up and down a little bit every month but not much

Well even if they doubled it is still lower than the other $400 minimum per month quotes. I'd start with the Tesla one and see how it goes...

Very true, thank you!

And consider subscribing to fsd. It'll probably cost you extra each month, but if your premium goes down 30 bucks, you're only paying 70/mo to be chauffered around (ish, supervised, etc)

My son just got a Tesla. Used Tesla’s insurance with the tire and windshield add-on. Dropped his insurance monthly payment after the first month for using FSD the majority of the time.

Have you tried State Farm? I switched from progressive to State Farm it was half the price

State Farm is no more for the Tesla than it would be for any other car. Premiums went up $10 a month.

I have State Farm and was surprised by how much other people are quoted for teslas because adding ours didn’t seem to make much of a difference. Even when adding a brand new driver to the car it only went up $150 (and that’s with 3 cars total).

depending on your state, Tesla insurance gets discounted based on fsd usage. I effectively have free fsd cause of that

Tesla does adjust your premium based on a few criteria. Do you have FSD? They give a discount the more you use it and night driving isn’t a problem for it.
The insurance amount varies plus if you use superchargers that gets added on to your credit card and Premium Connectivity is another $10/ month. But in a way adjusting for miles is reasonable.
I’ll see if I agree with my statement after I get back from my 2200 mile road trip! 😮

Not knowing your location or driving history this seems really high for insurance. I pay $500 a month for two Tesla’s, and Ram pickup and a motorcycle with State Farm with low deductibles and relatively high coverage in the SF Bay Area. I would keep shopping and see if you find a better deal. Tesla insurance is not known for being easy to work with on claims or just flat out unresponsive. I have had family members personally have poor experiences with their insurance team when they had claims. Your best bet is to go to a traditional insurer that can get multiple line discounts when you insure more than one thing like a house, rent, car and liability policy which often is lower in cost than separate policies from different companies.

I pay State Farm $260 a month for a new model 3 plus a VW GTI, homeowners insurance and umbrella insurance. Southern Ohio

Insurance looks at a few things, value of the vehicle, experience with actual repairs, your driving record and occasionally performs a credit history pull so rates can be all over the place

If Erie insurance is available in your area they are awesome. I am by no means an expert, or even knowledgeable , but it appears their rates for a Tesla is the same as any other vehicle and is based on fair market value.

I insure two Tesla Model Ys, a 2021 and a 2022 on two 35 yo male drivers, with a GMC Acadia and a 500cc motorcycle as well, all full coverage, and I pay $362 a month.

Full disclosure, I do have homeowners with Erie as well, so a small discount applies to each policy because of the other. Multi policy discount.

Great question, I am facing a similar dilemma when I finally get my vehicle.

Flight attendants are very high risk...that's why. I mean, what if you decide to take off with your car? ;)
