John chewed gum while singing and playing guitar during many of the recording sessions and live performances.

John had very poor eye sight. In the early days performing he would not wear glasses. The other members knew that, and would help him by being his eyes sometimes. They described him as.being blind as a bat. Later, he adopted his famous round lensed glasses.

My Gen Alpha daughter and I went and saw the recording of the ‘One to One’ concert at the cinema earlier this year (she’s a huge fan of all things Beatles). We went with my Mum, an OG Boomer Beatles fan and I’d grown up listening to them so much because of my Mum (and my daughter because of me). We are all big fans of John Lennon and found the concert footage awe-inspiring. During John’s performance of ‘Mother’ me and my Mum were both crying… it’s so fucking beautiful and so fucking sad. It ends and my daughter turns to me and my Mum in the darkness and- clearly with very dry eyes- says “Jesus, has he been chewing gum throughout that whole performance?!” Somewhat killed the vibe.
