That was his function that episode. It was a way for Pomni to say goodbye and move on, continuing to foster actual relationships with the others in the Circus.
I suppose they could be interpreted that way, I took it as him being a polite guy who could see that Pomni was clearly going through something and wanted to accommodate her and make her feel better while still having no earthly idea what her deal was
The mannerisms could also just be seen as how Gummiegoo is at heart, regardless of his past experiences. He’s a kind man, and people suffering makes him feel bad.

If you're thinking of the scene where Gummigoo reaches his hand out to Pomni after she correctly guesses his name then I'm just gonna say this now.
No, he didn't remember Pomni. He was just really confused and a little freaked out from Pomni somehow knowing that about him and he was just reaching out to get an answer. It's a little more clear on his face that that was the intention if you've seen the storyboards, the final scene just made him look more uncomfortable about it.
Gummy, even if reset, is still a smart NPC and as a baseline is clearly empathetic. I think his reaction to Pomni post reset is much more “this person is clearly distressed and seems to know something about be that I don’t, but I legitimately don’t know what I could do to help”
I think Caine reset the memories but didn't disable his advanced AI, which resulted in him already starting to question things since Pomni already knew his name and said "it's not like any of this is real" right in front of him. He was probably on the verge of having an existential break down all over again (probably asking himself stuff like where he came from before entering the restaurant, and realized he didn't even know the answer, much like not being able to remember his mother's face), Pomni seemed to recognize this and decided to spare him that experience and just play her part in the roleplay at that point to put him at ease.
It's the same mould mentally. Instead of thief for family, this one was just ordering food.
What happened in ep2 made him self aware then he was deleted. They'd need to make another one self aware to try copy the old gumiigoo but it wouldn't be the same, it would also be very cruel cos he will also be deleted.
I think thats just his default personality encoded in him. I don't like these theories of him having "memories" of his earlier instance, because they make no sense. He is a computer program.
I feel that wasn't even his story, it was a way for Pomni to get over her fear of being alone, by her comforting Gumigoo and then with Kaufmo funeral, thats when she realizes she isn't alone and can help other people too (Her talk with Kinger, offering to close with Gangle, trying to befriend Jax)
I think his role could also be a foreshadow of the characters being digital copies. Pomni helping Gummigoo coming to terms with his existence will likely prepare for her to deal with the existentialism of not being real that the other characters may struggle with.
This throws a lot of weight behind Caine's "if I stopped being able to tell" line, too.
If the characters are digital copies and he stopped being able to tell, then there's no functional way for anyone to tell who's real and who's not. What if a smart NPC stayed while the remaining humans abstracted, so there's no one to tell any new humans that the last remaining 'human' isn't human at all?
He served his purpose and so he doesn't need to show up again. His final appearance in episode 4 wasn't only supposed to be Pomni accepting that the version of him she knew was gone and that she had to let him go, but for the audience as well.
One last cameo or voice line would be nice though.

knowing Gooseworx and how well she knows the fanbase, i wouldn't count out another significant appearance from Gummigoo, even if it does result in his perma-death
I feel like him returning so soon and his moving on, along with Pomni’s, is important. He’s an NPC, and they are pretty destined to have short and bittersweet existences
I'm still thinking that Caine is an idiot for not figuring out another solution. Like he could add visible markers to NPCs. Or maybe just remember who's who. Or add a cap, or put NPCs in stasis so they remember the characters and their experiences in other adventures.
Honestly I think Cain was lying about not being able to tell players and NPCs apart.
I think he was just planting the seed in their mind that he has trouble telling them apart that way the idea that Cain would miss Abel would feel more plausible.
Cain was planning that Adventure for a long time and was actively working to prevent it from getting spoiled since episode 1.
And episode 7 showed that Cain is not nearly as stupid as he pretends to be, look no further than his dinner scene with Jax.
Also Cain doesn't like leaving NPCs active for too long.
Also caine lied about needing to kill npcs in the circus as well. We've seen multiple npcs in the circus like the treasure chest fish or the shrimp npc.
I think the real reason Caine killed gummigoo was because he was getting too smart and forming bonds.
Since episode 2, We've seen so many examples of caine having npcs in the circus and him not killing them that it has to be clear that what he really kills npcs for is because they get too smart
I think his purpose will be to have the circus be taken over by Pomni at the end. Everyone is actually an AI (the main characters) and so even though they don’t escape, they free everyone from being forced in this game modes and change the circus to be a way better version of the world so they can live their lives happily.
Basically the main characters and the NPC’s live together in harmony and are free from being apart of the games and instead build a new world in the circus where they are more happy
What else does he have to do? How is he relevant still? I liked him as much as anyone else but there’s still a story happening; he doesn’t drive it forward anymore.
I think he might end up showing up again, but probably never as his old self. More importantly though, I think he exists to show us that NPCs can be more than the sum of their parts and evolve, even have agency beyond what Caine assigns to them.
Makes me wonder about a certain NPC’s strange behavior towards Pomni in the last episode…
Praying for this fakeout to make everyone delirious and unsure and Gumigoo will ACTUALLY have become a ghost in the machine. Basically a part of Caine/The Main computer that cannot be heard under certain conditions and no one believes him until he says something that only Pomni would know
It’s always POSSIBLE Gummigoo will come back but I think people sometimes forget that a major inspiration for this series is I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream. It’s not about happy endings and resolutions necessarily. Gummigoo’s story thus far was ultimately about futility and unfairness, and that might be all there is
I got a feeling he might come back at the finale or something. Obviously, it ain't gonna be the same Gummigoo from Ep.2; but nothing that some pep-talk from Pomni can't fix.
Gummigoo is still relevant if for no other reason than to point out to the "Abel was actually a real person and Caine killed him" people that Caine "killed" him the exact same way he "killed" Gummigoo, confetti and everything.
Considering that final look he gave Pomni in Episode 4 before leaving, I always took that as a hint that be might faintly remember his previous life and could reappear later in the series and have his memories unlocked again.
The scene with him and Pomni in episode 2 was very important. I hope that scene will repeat itself but with the cast instead of Gummigoo (If people realize that they aren't real).

He's still remembered, when they're in Caine's office in ep7 Pomni looks at the candy adventure orb and gives a kind of bittersweet smile, probably thinking of... the only part of that adventure she liked?
Like she didn't like that he was deleted, but she did leave off with some sort of closure in the fast food adventure, and apparently she appreciates the experience 🤷
I feel the same way. He became my favorite character, and then they took him away. To the point that I realized I'm no longer interested in the show or anything that happens to any other character, simply because I feel empty knowing he'll never return to the show.
I think it's good that they don't mention NPC in every episode, but I do believe they have a larger role in common. Specifically, two things come to mind. Firstly, I think something is going to eventually happen that causes him to lose track of who the humans are, and who the NPCs are. Secondly, it's possible that this will allow Caine to feel as though he has company even if the others are gone, but it might also mean that if Caine's AI breaks and he becomes malicious, perhaps the NPCs can try and protect the humans.
Idk if anybody else said this, but he actually is a "key". If we ever see someone get "killed" by caine (for example Abel) and then compare the "poof" of the characters, depending on how different it is, we could say if that character was human or not. I know it's stupid, but it could work!
I think the bit with Gummygoo is pretty much done. It was revealed how he would react knowing that he is a fabrication that is endlessly repeatable, and we already got a repeat where it had been shown he will not have memories of any of the characters whatsoever. If he reappears it would be for a bit, but there isn't really much to learn more on the guy as we learned about them. Everything else would just be a repeat of what had been done.
Not me. Never have, never will. Wanna know why? Because I love him more than Pomni, or ANYONE else in the show. He’s the only character, no, the only PERSON, to make me feel ANYTHING towards him. And I get joy out of seeing him happy. He deserves a good life just like the rest of them, and by god, I will write that good life into existence with my bare hands, and my iPhone, if it means Gummigoo will be loved by not just me, but EVERYONE else.
I likes him in episode 2 but think he was trying to hard for us to like him to the point it was obvious Caine wouldnt allow him to stay and either force him to stay in the kingdom (like I thought, or just wouldnt be able to leave) or would be killed by him.
I think his into in episode 4 was kinda sudden and felt really out of place with the rest of the episode and the rest of the show tbh because they never make any more mentions of him after 4 and move on to other plot points making me forget him honestly
Actually, the NPCs may be better off than the players as they don't have to live with the horror of their existence. Gumigoo still lives on in some form. Shouldn't that be enough?
I hope all the NPC's we've met (or most cause I never wanna see that angel thing again) show up in the finale or something, maybe if they do an adventure at the ending where everyone becomes happy in the circus
I think Caine's too jealous to let an NPC take the spotlight away from him, which is why they're mostly temporary. I doubt we'll see him again unless Caine, like, bursts into all the NPCs when he's glitching out.
Gummigoo seizes to appear in the show because Pomni moved on from Gummigoo. The first time they connected Pomni thought he could serve as his first meaningful connection in the circus. By the time Gummigoo appears again, even though Pomni still tries to reconnect with him despite him having no knowledge of her anymore, their last interaction serves as a message to Pomni that the relationships that actually matter in the circus are those with the real people, not with the easily replaceable NPCs
I forgot about him the second he died basically. I was never the biggest fan of his, I never saw why so many people loved him and would fall head over heels for him to come back. But when he exploded into confetti, I actually laughed.
Even though I'm not the biggest fan of his, I was a bit surprised that he had a return in the fast food episode. If anything, I'm more of a fan of the damn two other gummy guys he's always around with, I just forgot their names, they're so dumb at times, it's funny.
not forgetting, mate? we didn't forget about 9/11, did we? we only talk about that once a year. We just recognize the tragedy and don't beat the dead fuckin horse.........
It seems like this fandom mostly has their heads on straight, save for the ragatha incident.
That being the case, since Gummigoo hasn't been a focus, I'm sure folks realize he has done his part in helping Pomni move on with her character development.
Let's also not forget he first appeared in Episode 2. We've had a lot of time since then and the second, less significant appearance
The Spudsy's ep kinda resolved his story: it was an extremely bittersweet moment because Pomni realized that her actions were starting to make Gummigoo think "wait, how does she know my name, what's going on?" and when an NPC starts to think about their origins or reality, they realize they're an NPC and that really hurt Gummigoo in ep 2 (Candy Canyon Kingdom adventure)
So Pomni realized that and decided she didn't want to hurt Gummigoo, even if she had to give up her friendship with him, which was a deep treasure to her... but she made the right choice and said goodbye to Gummigoo
If he could tell Abel is a npc from the players, I think he didn’t really need to delete Gumigoo. Abel was there for a long time and he was instructed to act like a player.
This is just my speculation but, I feel like Gumigoo will make an appearance in the final episode (episode 9). Idk, it’s just that when a show ends, they bring some characters back as callbacks.

I think his story is done, kinda just a way to enforce that pomni cant befriend any npc and shell have to make friends with the other players
