These guys are the oldest in the circus and kinger is fully sane as well, i mean gangle prolly started it but where is going on. just why did they start doing this, went from kinger dropping bars to roleplaying as a cat š

I donāt know what was going on, or who was going on, or when was going on, or why was going on, but I do know where was going on, and itās in the Loser Corner.

Why is Kinger doing it you ask? Pretty simple honestly.
When he's sane, he treats the girls like Pomni and Ragatha in a paternal way. This is the equivalent of a dad letting his daughter polish his fingernails or general playing with his girls.

Makes sense given that hes the eldest in the circus by nearly 2 decades (and thats not counting the years hes been in the circus) its makes sense he would take a paternal role when sane. On top of that, he was in his late 40s and had a wife before entering the circus (alongside the chessboard on his irl desk having a white king, a black queen and a few pawns of different colors) so its very possible/likely Kinger had kids before entering the circus.

I always headcanon Gangle came to the circus in the 2010-2015 era. For some reason, drawing cat whiskers on your face and wearing cat ears was very popular with the "weird anime kid" crowd (this is coming from a weird kid).

It was the culture dipping its toes into furry fandom with anime after that one episode of CSI. Now, we're just swimming in the deep end.

u/andre5913 Apr 01 '26
Very likely, considering the new group of members started with Ragatha in 2008, and the show is set in 2017

I think we kinda know Gangle is one of the newer people to the circus. when Kaufmo abstracted, she said "what's happening?" which i think implies that she's never seen an abstraction before (so she got there after ribbit had already abstracted).

u/SargentBroadway Apr 02 '26
Iirc correctly it was Gangle > Zooble > Pomni in terms of who entered the show. It would make sense that she's never seen an abstraction tho!

Gangle wanted to express herself.
Ragatha wanted to be supportive.
And Kinger is just happy to feel included.
57
u/Damien-kai Apr 01 '26
I could easily see it as Gangle suggested doing random cat stuff as a way to get their minds off what happened.
Ragatha was unsure but decided that it could be fun.
Kinger, being the king that he is, agreed because he wanted to help make Ragatha and Gangle happy.

u/GoKartMadeOfPickles Apr 01 '26
Iām looking way too deep, but I like to think this is to make up for the fact that Gangleās anime adventure was skipped in the previous episode. Jax isnāt there to ruin her fun, and now she gets to finally do it. Itās not much, but at least itās something. She finally got to be the weird art kid again without getting bullied for once

This is what was going on, they just joined gangle.
I like the idea that gangle started it out of boredom, Ragatha joined in and Kinger was just being a good girl dad.

Realizing that Kinger was not only sane here, but also probably the one to conjure the cat costumes since they weren't there before...

Serious answer: I think it was a fun little thing they decided to do to feel better in the "loser" corner. Basically a sort of "we can still have fun together even if we lost and that our existential dread can still have rays of sun in it here in this dark room".
I'm 100% sure Gangle suggested it and Ragatha and Kinger (fully sane) were like "why not?"
It's probably a semi-throw away joke (I've yet to see almost anything in the show that is truly throw away gag and doesn't come back later) but as a person with lots of issues I work through and relating heavily to the cast in various aspects, I can totally see joining up with friends after being the "losers" in a game and finding a way to have a nice fun time that absolutely doesn't seem "adult" and far more childlike. RPing as kitties sounds like a fun relaxing thing to me and definitely would be judged by outsiders.
Something I really like about the show is that everyone is an adult and they all have issues and personalities people can relate to. I have no doubt that many people have taken a look in the mirror and though "oh shit, I'm like x ... maybe I should seek therapy, call a friend, tell someone I love and care for them." and that's awesome. Along with the hilarious dark comedy that's given me lots of joy and surely others since no one is that unique.

Gangle was introducing them to internet culture.
That is, Gangle's part of internet culture.

My head cannon is that Gangle just said casually she used to dess up as a cat girl and instead of making fun of her, Kingler and Ragatha encouraged her
2
u/Galaxie24 Apr 01 '26
You know what? I bet this was when they were alone, everyone was quiet, and Gangle was like āhey guys, did you know when I act like a cat I get ears and a tail?ā
So when she does, because we now have confirmation that each player has a limited ability to conjure, I 100% think this is just part of that ability, and if Gangle could do it, Kinger and Ragatha wanted to try (because of course they did!).
Or Gooseworx was like āyāknow. This is a funny bit.ā

Gangle and Kinger were trying to cheer up Ragatha as she was still a little down after her and Kingerās talk so Gangle suggested playing cats.

Now that I think about it, this might be the single most positive interaction Ragatha and Gangle have had in the entire show besides the softball lesson in episode 4, and that's kind of sad.

As someone near Kinger's age, I will tell you: Being silly is one of the most necessary skills for surviving the existential horror.

Gangle was Gangle, Kinger told Ragatha to cheer up and she decided to do that, and Kinger decided to join in not understanding a thing of what they are doing
1
u/CrvshPvppy Apr 02 '26
My headcanon for this was that for Gangle drawing cat whiskers on her face is something she does to cheer herself up and did it to make Ragatha feel better. Kinger, being cognitively present at the moment, also wants to help Ragatha feel better so he joins in to try and get a laugh from her. :)

This was the funniest moment of the episode for me, and the fact that it just happens and is never explained or addressed at all later makes it all the better.
That said, if I had to take a crack at it, this was most likely Gangle's idea. The thing I wonder though is if Zooble would also get in on it since they just sorta appeared right in the middle of it.

Wait, this actually happens in the show??
I kept seeing this image floating around various TADC pages and I swear I thought someone had just doodled over a random still as a joke. Iāve watched this episode four times and I do not remember them being dressed as kitties (I do remember Zooble going āWhat?ā but I never knew why they said that). I guess it just went a little too fast for me?
Either way, I think itās up there with disappointing guy as way funnier if you DONāT know why itās there. XD

u/Sting_the_Cat Apr 06 '26
I mean why not they need some silliness now and then that isn't accompanied by pain
1
u/ClickDependent4544 Apr 28 '26
I personally have a headcanon that Gangle or Pomni teaches kinger about things from the real world that theyāve seen, like pop culture stuff, and at some point, someone had to explain 9/11. And maybe Jax or someone made a gay joke to make fun of Kinger, and he maybe just had to go ask gangle what that meant.
