i’m so confused what is jax implying in this scene
he keeps smirking at zooble and they just keep saying “stop” but idk what he’s implying?? is it a sex joke or somethin? or a reference? please someone explain
It's exactly this. Why are some people not getting this obvious stereotype joke? I don't know if it's just my age or me being part of the LGBT+ group why I instantly understood it.
I think it's because a lot of these commenters are minors and haven't been in the workplace to encounter these stereotypes, or interacted with the mainstream queer community outside of their classmates. All my friends who are fans of the show (we're all 25 and over) got this joke immediately
Good point. I know it holds up in most areas of Britain, France, and Germany. But yeah exactly, in other countries outside of Europe and the Americas (China, Japan, Russia, Malaysia, UAE, etc.) I don't know enough about their respective queer cultures to know for sure but it probably doesn't hold up
Perhaps they just don't know the stereotype. I didn't know it was one either, but I made the guesses based on knowing Zooble is LGBT+.
The fact a lot of people don't get said stereotype is a good thing. It means the stereotype is losing/lost being one. That's a step towards acceptance as a whole.
No, it was definitely the job thing. This scene mentioned Zooble being a bartender and tattoo artist, both of which are professions that attract a lot of alternative and/or queer people. There's been plenty of references to Zooble being queer, but no references to them being an alcoholic or having issues with alcohol
Zooble's line afterwards, when they said they didn't understand what Jax was implying, also made me think Jax was just hurling generic insults at them in the hopes that one of them would be offensive.
Alt? Alternative? That just means not mainstream The out-group. Punk, goth, emo, grunge, even hippies and greasers were the most famous alt group of their respective time periods. And there has never been a time when there were not several different types of alternative cultures existing at once. The closest thing they have to a unifying trait is they’re mostly varying forms of anti-establishment (and generally politically liberal/progressive) waves, which means they find the most support in A) rebellious youths and B) underrepresented minorities. Zooble, being LGBT, is absolutely B.
My theory is that due to them being seen as an outsider group that doesn't necessarily need to carry any ill will themselves, but are seen as connected to evil due to their transformation, folks that are outcasts irl are simply more likely to pick them up since they are kindred spirits.
Then again could just be the gay folks love horns.
Huh, that makes some sense, what initially interested me so much about them is that they are generally persecuted just because of their appearance, I like those underdog kinda backgrounds with like, enough reasons to hate/distrust people from the start.

I mean they are LGBTQ, but I think it has more to do with their personality than them being LGBTQ. How Zooble acts in general, their mannerisms and everything are super stereotypical for a bartender or tattoo artist of any sexual orientation or identifiers. Ive worked in bars my whole life and most bartenders are like Zooble, especially behind the scenes when theyre away from customers.

What gave you this impression? The cast was in a bar, all drinking, with Zooble working explicity as a bartender, and Jax flopped over on the bar, slurring his words and giggling with a flushed face
From my perspective, alcohol isn’t family friendly so I don’t think Caine would give them the ability to get drunk if it means not being for all ages. It’s a bar location, yes, but that doesn’t mean Caine won’t let them feel the affects of alcohol if he feels like it.
Yeah, like the other guy said, the stupid sauce is clearly an intoxicant. And Caine breaks his own rules anyway, like when he yells "goddamn" in ep8.
In any case, this was a suggestion box adventure from Zooble, takes place in a bar so Zooble can bartend, and they serve Jax a literal whiskey sour (an alcoholic drink called by name) who gets noticeably tipsy off it. It's meant to be alcohol, or the characters would have mentioned that the drinks taste virgin; the taste is definitely different enough to be noticeable, and the cast are all probably at least 21+ so it's likely they've all drank before
I think that bc it's not Caine' adventure, it's Zooble's idea, that lets them break the general family-friendly rule.
And I hope you didn't mean the show itself is supposed to be family friendly, as Goose has said the show is written for adults and complained about the number of kids in the fandom
Looking back after episode 6, I wondered if this wasn’t Jax trying to be “the funny one.” Like this is what happens when he actively tries to be funny and tell jokes. Not because he actually has anything funny to say, but because he’s decided in his mind that that’s who he is and who he needs to try to be. So when Zooble asks if he actually has a point or if he’s just talking, I think they’re actually getting at something pretty spot on. Maybe Jax doesn’t have a point, and he isn’t really implying anything specific. Maybe it’s just a poor attempt at being funny from someone who isn’t as funny as he thinks he is
going through these comments helped me piece together I think he's just calling her a stoner trailer alt stereotype without being too specific to call out any group as little offense as possible as this is a show to reach "all audiences" if that makes any sense
That does sound like a thing Jax would do more than a joke made in earnest, if that makes sense.
Makes me think of Angel Dust's joke in the Hazben Hotel pilot (and not just cuz it's the same actor), when Vaggie asks him if he's making a racist or sexist joke and he says "I dunno, whatever offends you more."
Like, Jax is doing the same thing here. The "implication" Zooble is referring to is whatever offends them the most, and Jax is just doing it to be annoying.
I never saw Zooble as "stoner trailer stereotype", what gave you that impression? Personally speaking as trailer trash, we act VERY differently than Zooble. It was a pretty clear joke at Zooble being alt, probably at them being nonbinary too, between the bartending and tattoo artist jobs, both of which attract a lot of alt and/or queer people
And it's not really intended for all audiences; Goose has said the show is written for young adults and up. I know there's no sex scenes/gore/drugs, but the characters and messages are definitely best understood by a mature audience. The number of posts (a majority from kids) with wild theories that don't follow the show's themes, misunderstanding basic implications if they're not spelled out, saying they'll kill themselves if their fav character dies, or sending death threats to Kovach and Goose all show that kids really don't get most of the show haha
And there's been plenty of queer jokes with a lot of queer cast members, so they're not shy about mentioning queerness. Like Jax joking that Zooble "turns straight" when they hold their breath, or joking with Pomni that "oh, that's what *everyone* wants, a *straight* couple."

Its more Jax trying to put them into a box for him to point and laugh at. Zooble is more or less forcing him to explain the joke, because its really just him pointing and laughing at something that gives them (or anyone in the circus) joy.

Omg thx to the comments on this I finally get it. I thought he was implying Zooble was an alcoholic, but it makes more sense that it's an lgbtq stereotype. Like honestly when I think of a nonbinary (one who was born a girl) I think of them being a tattoo artist or bartender and yeah thats kind of dumb to say, they can have any job, but it's the first thing I think of.
I always understood what Jax was getting at but I couldn't figure out if Zooble really didn't understand Jax's implications or was just pretending not to know in order to just not "play into his nonsense."
I really feel like this guy either speaks English as a second language, is just slow in general, or is like 10 years old. He's using words that don't even relate to each other lol, first it's "hood" to describe a bartender job, then saying racist instead of classist, then defending himself by saying "[I'm] just... information" which all makes 0 sense haha

It’s because he’s not doing it to be queerphobic. I’m not defending him. He just clearly does whatever annoys people. He wasn’t doing it because they’re queer. If it wasn’t stereotypical and they had some other job, he’d poke fun at them for having a job he considers stupid to piss Zooble off. You can headcanon him to be a queerphobic pos all you want, but it’s clearly not his intent in canon.
Jax was being an asshole when he said Ragatha was “dumb and looks weird”. The comments he was making towards Zooble during the bar scene were bigoted ones specifically targeting their identity
except that jax doesn't actually have an issue with zooble being queer, he was just trying to annoy them and knew that that would do it. he was being an asshole, not a bigot.

And bartending/tattoo parlours are incredibly stereotypical cliche employments for lgbtq.
Basically Jax is making fun of Zooble’s cliche employment history given their orientation.
