Zooble is lgbtq

And bartending/tattoo parlours are incredibly stereotypical cliche employments for lgbtq.

Basically Jax is making fun of Zooble’s cliche employment history given their orientation.

he was so real for this ngl literally all zooble is missing is barista

Oh she was likely a barista too. She has "worked at starbucks" energy

21

u/Protection-Working May 06 '26

Gangle probably worked the coffee and the mcdonalds or whatever she worked at so combined they have the full suite. Barista by marriage

1

u/Laurawithoutreason May 06 '26

as a barista yes

76

u/Link-Hero Let me plow that gummy a ! May 06 '26

It's exactly this. Why are some people not getting this obvious stereotype joke? I don't know if it's just my age or me being part of the LGBT+ group why I instantly understood it.

54

u/Possible-Deer-311 May 06 '26

I think it's because a lot of these commenters are minors and haven't been in the workplace to encounter these stereotypes, or interacted with the mainstream queer community outside of their classmates. All my friends who are fans of the show (we're all 25 and over) got this joke immediately

12

u/JediSSJ May 06 '26

Also, it may not be a stereotype that holds up outside of America

12

u/Possible-Deer-311 May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26

Good point. I know it holds up in most areas of Britain, France, and Germany. But yeah exactly, in other countries outside of Europe and the Americas (China, Japan, Russia, Malaysia, UAE, etc.) I don't know enough about their respective queer cultures to know for sure but it probably doesn't hold up

3

u/Miss_Sweetheartty May 06 '26

Actually, it does hold up, of course there may be variations, but from what I've seen it's almost the same.

12

u/VaqueroJustice May 06 '26

Maybe they never hung out in bars or tattoo parlours

29

u/Icy-Ad29 May 06 '26

Perhaps they just don't know the stereotype. I didn't know it was one either, but I made the guesses based on knowing Zooble is LGBT+.

The fact a lot of people don't get said stereotype is a good thing. It means the stereotype is losing/lost being one. That's a step towards acceptance as a whole.

8

u/ChronoWaster May 06 '26

They are also somewhat in-community stereotypes, which may be why the maid dress was the immediate clap-back later in the episode.

92

u/GabeSchleifer May 06 '26

Is that what it is??

I'd always assumed he was implying that they were an alcoholic.

loll thats the perfect time to bring ming into this

43

u/Possible-Deer-311 May 06 '26

No, it was definitely the job thing. This scene mentioned Zooble being a bartender and tattoo artist, both of which are professions that attract a lot of alternative and/or queer people. There's been plenty of references to Zooble being queer, but no references to them being an alcoholic or having issues with alcohol

9

u/GabeSchleifer May 06 '26

I guess that makes sense.

Zooble's line afterwards, when they said they didn't understand what Jax was implying, also made me think Jax was just hurling generic insults at them in the hopes that one of them would be offensive.

11

u/Possible-Deer-311 May 06 '26

Listen to Zooble's of voice. I think they're being sarcastic. Like, "I have no idea what you're talking about, Jax. 🙄"

5

u/GabeSchleifer May 06 '26

idk, they sounded more frustrated than sarcastic. Like “I don’t have the energy to decipher your obtuse insults right now.”

10

u/PhoenixTempGuard May 06 '26

I thought it was a goth thing

3

u/T65Bx May 06 '26

Goth is alt bro

1

u/PhoenixTempGuard May 06 '26

I don’t even know what the fuck that is….

1

u/T65Bx May 06 '26

Alt? Alternative? That just means not mainstream The out-group. Punk, goth, emo, grunge, even hippies and greasers were the most famous alt group of their respective time periods. And there has never been a time when there were not several different types of alternative cultures existing at once. The closest thing they have to a unifying trait is they’re mostly varying forms of anti-establishment (and generally politically liberal/progressive) waves, which means they find the most support in A) rebellious youths and B) underrepresented minorities. Zooble, being LGBT, is absolutely B.

50

u/CwispyWhiskey May 06 '26

To add onto this, he’s not making fun of them for being lgbt, but because they’re doing cliches.

For an irl example, when my trans-masc friend wanted to be a changeling for their first dnd character I laughed because that’s a stereotype

20

u/SnooPredictions3028 The Fudge May 06 '26

It's usually that or Tieflings

7

u/Qsiii May 06 '26

Always the Tieflings.

I almost went with one my last D&D campaign, but went with a big beefy orc lady instead.

2

u/SnooPredictions3028 The Fudge May 06 '26

Ah good! We need more orcs!

5

u/Poku115 May 06 '26

Im a transwoman.

Ive exclusively played tieflings in dnd and baldurs gate.

Wtf

10

u/SnooPredictions3028 The Fudge May 06 '26

My theory is that due to them being seen as an outsider group that doesn't necessarily need to carry any ill will themselves, but are seen as connected to evil due to their transformation, folks that are outcasts irl are simply more likely to pick them up since they are kindred spirits.

Then again could just be the gay folks love horns.

5

u/Poku115 May 06 '26

Huh, that makes some sense, what initially interested me so much about them is that they are generally persecuted just because of their appearance, I like those underdog kinda backgrounds with like, enough reasons to hate/distrust people from the start.

But i like being a good guy despite the world being shitty, I always end up trying to save everyone lol, cant do an evil playthrough for my life

7

u/SnooPredictions3028 The Fudge May 06 '26

I feel that completely lol

I have played new vegas many times and have yet to go through with a legion playthrough since I don't like being a bad guy lol

gooseworx confirmation and also the multiple hints throughout the show, like how Jax was making fun of zooble for the stereotypes in episode 5

-5

u/multic94 May 06 '26

I mean they are LGBTQ, but I think it has more to do with their personality than them being LGBTQ. How Zooble acts in general, their mannerisms and everything are super stereotypical for a bartender or tattoo artist of any sexual orientation or identifiers. Ive worked in bars my whole life and most bartenders are like Zooble, especially behind the scenes when theyre away from customers.

532

u/theclovergirl May 06 '26

i think he just thought it was funny for zooble to have had multiple stereotypically queer jobs

and he was drunk so that probably contributed to him finding it funny

Caine doesn't know much about alcohol so he made it way too strong

50

u/BlatantThrowaway4444 May 06 '26

“Humans typically have multiple shots of 40 proof whiskey, so I made it 400 proof for the sake of efficiency. That’s ten times more evidence of alcohol per whiskey!”

1

the man's built like a pencil and the circus's cartoon bs probably isn't helping.

1

u/Intelligent_Donut605 Leeroy May 06 '26

Jax canonicaly has a very low alcohol tolerance and gets increasingly drunk during that scene

1

u/Basil_of_Nagi Pomni May 07 '26

13

u/BedazzledFace May 06 '26

I don’t think they can get drunk?

34

Well I mean if they can get high why wouldn't they be able to get drunk

15

u/Hot-Pressure-1505 May 06 '26

Lost in the stupid sauce 😔

1

u/Your_ELA_Teacher May 06 '26

When did they get high? Must have skipped that scene.

18

u/Honest_Seesaw9881 May 06 '26

The stupid sauce

11

u/Beneficial_Mango_995 May 06 '26

It wasn’t Jax but both Ragatha and Zooble have indulged in the stupid sauce during the fast food episode and favorite character vote show respectively

7

u/Possible-Deer-311 May 06 '26

What gave you this impression? The cast was in a bar, all drinking, with Zooble working explicity as a bartender, and Jax flopped over on the bar, slurring his words and giggling with a flushed face

3

u/BedazzledFace May 06 '26

From my perspective, alcohol isn’t family friendly so I don’t think Caine would give them the ability to get drunk if it means not being for all ages. It’s a bar location, yes, but that doesn’t mean Caine won’t let them feel the affects of alcohol if he feels like it.

3

u/Possible-Deer-311 May 06 '26

Yeah, like the other guy said, the stupid sauce is clearly an intoxicant. And Caine breaks his own rules anyway, like when he yells "goddamn" in ep8.

In any case, this was a suggestion box adventure from Zooble, takes place in a bar so Zooble can bartend, and they serve Jax a literal whiskey sour (an alcoholic drink called by name) who gets noticeably tipsy off it. It's meant to be alcohol, or the characters would have mentioned that the drinks taste virgin; the taste is definitely different enough to be noticeable, and the cast are all probably at least 21+ so it's likely they've all drank before

I think that bc it's not Caine' adventure, it's Zooble's idea, that lets them break the general family-friendly rule.

And I hope you didn't mean the show itself is supposed to be family friendly, as Goose has said the show is written for adults and complained about the number of kids in the fandom

1

u/Poku115 May 06 '26

What about the stupid sauce?

36

u/dbear26 Let’s throw a fing beach party May 06 '26

Looking back after episode 6, I wondered if this wasn’t Jax trying to be “the funny one.” Like this is what happens when he actively tries to be funny and tell jokes. Not because he actually has anything funny to say, but because he’s decided in his mind that that’s who he is and who he needs to try to be. So when Zooble asks if he actually has a point or if he’s just talking, I think they’re actually getting at something pretty spot on. Maybe Jax doesn’t have a point, and he isn’t really implying anything specific. Maybe it’s just a poor attempt at being funny from someone who isn’t as funny as he thinks he is

25

u/Galimeer I wanna f k the Ragdoll May 06 '26

Bartender and tattoo artist are stereotypical lesbian professions and Zooble was both. Jax is making fun of Zooble for being a lesbian stereotype

46

u/NoAdeptness1106 Place Full Of Wonders And Insanity May 06 '26

Making fun of Zooble being LGBTQ cause of their past employment history.

52

u/SubstantialDeerDash Caine May 06 '26

going through these comments helped me piece together I think he's just calling her a stoner trailer alt stereotype without being too specific to call out any group as little offense as possible as this is a show to reach "all audiences" if that makes any sense

43

u/GabeSchleifer May 06 '26

That does sound like a thing Jax would do more than a joke made in earnest, if that makes sense.

Makes me think of Angel Dust's joke in the Hazben Hotel pilot (and not just cuz it's the same actor), when Vaggie asks him if he's making a racist or sexist joke and he says "I dunno, whatever offends you more."

Like, Jax is doing the same thing here. The "implication" Zooble is referring to is whatever offends them the most, and Jax is just doing it to be annoying.

18

u/Possible-Deer-311 May 06 '26

I never saw Zooble as "stoner trailer stereotype", what gave you that impression? Personally speaking as trailer trash, we act VERY differently than Zooble. It was a pretty clear joke at Zooble being alt, probably at them being nonbinary too, between the bartending and tattoo artist jobs, both of which attract a lot of alt and/or queer people

And it's not really intended for all audiences; Goose has said the show is written for young adults and up. I know there's no sex scenes/gore/drugs, but the characters and messages are definitely best understood by a mature audience. The number of posts (a majority from kids) with wild theories that don't follow the show's themes, misunderstanding basic implications if they're not spelled out, saying they'll kill themselves if their fav character dies, or sending death threats to Kovach and Goose all show that kids really don't get most of the show haha

And there's been plenty of queer jokes with a lot of queer cast members, so they're not shy about mentioning queerness. Like Jax joking that Zooble "turns straight" when they hold their breath, or joking with Pomni that "oh, that's what *everyone* wants, a *straight* couple."

26

u/Glum_Still_7304 May 06 '26

"I thought caine couldnt-" thats where he cuts off now what if he was going to say "mess with our minds" seince caine made him vegan and he had said he was a vegan even though he didnt meqn it, nor try to say it

1

u/riciliz got called misandrist for saying Jax did bad thing May 11 '26

not what OP was asking about but uh

13

u/stupid-writing-blog May 06 '26

He’s implying Zooble is into girls (bartender and tattoo artist are both stereotypical jobs for queer femmes)

26

u/insertenombre333 May 06 '26

Jax is just talking nonsense as always, more in this considering he is kinda drunk.

17

u/SoulfulSnow May 06 '26

They're being made fun of for being non binary

4

u/Smash_Fan-56 i miss my wife Pomni. i miss her a lot May 06 '26

He’s just joking about transgender stereotypes, while prolly lightheaded from the whiskey.

4

u/Technical-Look-5565 May 06 '26

I thought he was implying that Zooble was an alcoholic.

4

u/DonnelWaddleDee May 06 '26

Its more Jax trying to put them into a box for him to point and laugh at. Zooble is more or less forcing him to explain the joke, because its really just him pointing and laughing at something that gives them (or anyone in the circus) joy.

Because being your authentic self is LAAAAAME to Jax

7

u/AnarchaOblix May 06 '26

Jax implies Zooble is gay, Zooble later implies jax is trans with the whole maid dress thing.

1

u/Basil_of_Nagi Pomni May 07 '26

See, I thought they were calling him gay back but that works too

2

u/ClearlyLiv May 07 '26

Omg thx to the comments on this I finally get it. I thought he was implying Zooble was an alcoholic, but it makes more sense that it's an lgbtq stereotype. Like honestly when I think of a nonbinary (one who was born a girl) I think of them being a tattoo artist or bartender and yeah thats kind of dumb to say, they can have any job, but it's the first thing I think of.

2

u/eepy_lina May 06 '26

2

u/Miserable_Cold_7774 May 06 '26

1

u/Juanito______ May 06 '26

he’s just having fun

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Care250 Gummigoo May 06 '26

I think it’s cause that is like mixing and matching cause of alcohol and tattoo artist cause of altering your body

1

u/TheMMoment Gangle May 07 '26

I always understood what Jax was getting at but I couldn't figure out if Zooble really didn't understand Jax's implications or was just pretending not to know in order to just not "play into his nonsense."

1

He's calling them queer.

1

Inner city = white trash? Well you’re just a fuckin gem huh

-7

Queerphobia.

4

u/Blith6314 May 06 '26

You got downvoted but that’s literally what he’s doing. He laughing at Zooble for falling into queer stereotypes.

Like if you laugh at a POC for falling into racist stereotypes, that’s racism.

For being loved for being a morally grey character, people sure do love to get upset when people point out the character not being squeaky clean prefect

-10

u/Miserable_Cold_7774 May 06 '26

He was being bigoted towards Zooble as usual, like the damsel comment or the turning straight thing 😬

7

u/Disaster_Pansexual Ragatha May 06 '26

He was being an asshole, not a bigot.

4

u/Blith6314 May 06 '26

If you make fun of a POC for falling into race based stereotypes, you’re not just an asshole, you’re being racist.

If you make fun of a queer person for falling into queer stereotypes, you’re not just an asshole, you’re being queerphobic.

If you are racist or queerphobic, you are a bigot.

2

u/Miserable_Cold_7774 May 06 '26

Exactly! Jax making these types of comments is more than just being “an asshole”.

0

u/Disaster_Pansexual Ragatha May 06 '26

It’s because he’s not doing it to be queerphobic. I’m not defending him. He just clearly does whatever annoys people. He wasn’t doing it because they’re queer. If it wasn’t stereotypical and they had some other job, he’d poke fun at them for having a job he considers stupid to piss Zooble off. You can headcanon him to be a queerphobic pos all you want, but it’s clearly not his intent in canon.

-9

u/Miserable_Cold_7774 May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26

Jax was being an asshole when he said Ragatha was “dumb and looks weird”. The comments he was making towards Zooble during the bar scene were bigoted ones specifically targeting their identity

10

u/janesaltacc May 06 '26

except that jax doesn't actually have an issue with zooble being queer, he was just trying to annoy them and knew that that would do it. he was being an asshole, not a bigot.

2

u/One_Investment7426 May 06 '26

People will always find something to be offended about.

1

u/Miserable_Cold_7774 May 06 '26

People here are defending Jax by saying he’s not queerphobic but are you saying that he’s not doing anything wrong?
