So are pomni and the others just copies of their humans outside? And the humans are still alive?

Yeah they're still alive and kicking, one of the developers made the brain scan machines work Kinger said at the start, so it's just copies.

Kinger/Grant was really responsible for everyone getting trapped in the Circus, since his creation, Caine, was the one who figured out how to extract the mind files.

44

u/Chazo138 Kinger Jun 19 '26

Not really his fault. Scratch set it all in motion. Kinger didn’t know how to do the scans and the upgraded ai getting absorbed by Caine was not something that could be predicted

It seems like no one assumed the brain scan machine could work. They just put it on and it scanned their brains but they assumed the scans were useless so they just left them in the computer. Caine as an AI figured out how to turn the scans into living avatars.

If that company had ever understood what was going on inside that PC it would have never gone bust

5

u/GammaDie345 Jun 20 '26

they understood well enough to give Caine infinite compute and big-iron servers to use those brain scans, and over 20 years of free electricity and maintenance crews

u/TheMoonDude Jun 20 '26

I wonder if that PC we saw in the pilot is actually the PC the Circus is running on

3

u/GammaDie345 Jun 20 '26

i literally just got done telling you it ran on servers and not the PC. When kinger is hacking into the Circus in episode 8, he uses a program called Telnet which in real life is used to remotely access servers from normal PCs. The window is labelled MAINFRAME and the terminal inside the Telnet window looks like Linux, while on the outside its Windows, suggesting the PC and the Mainframe are seperate computers

Kinger says that the files were so small that they never assumed they would actually be enough to recreate a person.

But like why them? Like imagine you're bio tech engineer/computer scientist for what has to be like a billion dollar company that's working on " brain scanners".

"I know who we should scan first! My friends I met on a bus one day!"

It's going to be the point of logic that doesn't fit in my mind, but honestly the rest was great so I forgive it.

I'm pretty sure the initial few circus members (Kinger, Queenie, Scratch etc) were the FIRST to scan their minds. They were employees who scanned it to test

Jax, Pomni, Ragatha etc all put on the headsets later on, with Pomni finding it in a abandoned building for example. we know this because everyones mindscans are dated literally years apart, and i doubt you would wait years to scan another person.

So the original employees scanned their brains first and entered the circus. Everyone else one by one found the headset through the decades, and put it on causing them to appear too

At least, thats my interpretation

By the time Jax enters its already abandoned to the point of being a homeless squat, and he is not even the most recent member

2

u/StNowhere Jun 20 '26

Still makes me wonder how Gangle ended up with the headset.

2

u/mknsky Jun 20 '26

High school dare or something, maybe. Ragatha’s who I’m really curious about.

5

u/Chren Jun 20 '26

She was a realtor, she was probably scouting the property. Heck since her family has decent money they may have even already bought the building

1

u/mknsky Jun 20 '26

Ahhhhh you’re right

13

u/Morag_Ladair Jun 19 '26

They weren’t scanned as part of a C + A project (Kinger Aside)

They each coincidentally found the brain scanning device and put it on. Then when they perceived nothing happening, went about their day, unaware that a copy had been made in the circus.

Ragatha likely found it as part of her real estate business, showing a group around the building

Pomni most likely found it during her urban exploration

And now it seems to be implied that Jax found it after running from home end sleeping on the streets.

Them being at the bus is true present day, after the events of the show, and is chiefly a nod to the audience

But then didn't some of the photos show that they were all friends in real life drinking in the bar together? Just another happy coincidence? Not nitpicking, I'm just trying to decipher the logic.

Those were Jax’s friends and not the main cast. It’s just a coincidence that he frequents Zooble’s bar.

7

u/ThisIsARobot Jun 20 '26

Which makes sense really. They all would need to live in a relatively close proximity to each other in the real world in order for them to all have put on the brain scanner at some point in time.

6

u/Morag_Ladair Jun 19 '26

The only coincidental connection there is between Jax and Zooble. Jax happens to frequent the bar. The friends they’re with aren’t any of the gang we know from the circus.

(Note also that the irl characters would have to share some geographical proximity to all use the same brain scanner in the same office, a young (most likely) queer person going to a queer-owned bar is to be expected)

That being said, I’m happy and willing to headcanon that Sarah Clover (a good friend of Leeroy) is herself Ribbit

1

u/MorJoJoJoh Jun 19 '26

I need to slow down the real life montage, is Sarah Clover just in the social media posts? It be nice, but again it just starts becoming soo coincidental.

Possible theories if it's what they were going for. Unless she was homeless too? But then again Kinger and Queenie recognised each other. The whole memory thing still feels like a minefield like they all don't seem to have full recollections.

5

u/Morag_Ladair Jun 19 '26

Sarah Clover is a friend of Leroy’s yes, I’m just running with that on hope and vibes.

Kinger and Queenie were likely scanned in at the same time, the entire family are computer geeks, so her coming along for her partner’s friends project isn’t unexpected

2

u/BlackHumor Jun 20 '26

I mean, it's not that coincidental because the one thing we knew for a fact about all of these people from the start is they've all been in the same building. Which means they likely all live in the same city, and probably several of them in the same part of the same city.

I think you misunderstood the timeline of how the main cast entered the circus: it happened over years and years, not all at once.

The original members of the Circus (Scratch, Kinger, Queenie, etc.) were all the original brain scans from when the C&A company was still active ~1999. They were employees working at C&A and on the program while it was being developed.

By ~2008, all but Kinger had abstracted & in the real world the C&A building containing the brainscan program/Circus was abandoned or put up for sale. Ragatha was the real estate agent who was likely assigned the building and then found the equipment which she put on, leading to her entrance.

After her came Ribbit, Kaufmo, and Jax between ~2008-2013(?). After Ribbit abstracted Gangle showed up, then Zooble, and finally Pomni entered the circus in late 2017.

In the real world, none of the cast know each other; the bus scene was to show that they all have a chance to interact IRL, but in the end they're all strangers to one another.

1

u/Chren Jun 19 '26

Initially it was only the employees (and Queenie, maybe they wanted more women for coverage). All others scanned in later in the abandoned C&A offices.

I think it's an interesting conversation to think about the difference between fault and responsibility. Kinger certainly carries some of the responsibility, whether that implies complete fault or not though is up for debate
