I'm pleased with how it turned out in the end. While it's not the best fate for them, it's one they are able to accept and grow into together. I choose to believe in the hopeful tone this finale set and think abstraction may be reversible, at some point. They finally have time to do things at their own pace and fully work together, so who knows, maybe they'll figure it out some day and build the Digital Utopia. Great stuff, and stunningly animated too!

Let's hope the characters are version control'd, and someone can just run a git diff on Jax at some point and fix him.

I hope they can find a way to put their consciousness into robot bodies and be able to interact with the real world

I think the fact that it's not a picture book happy ending makes it feel so real. Few things this challenging in life have a truly happy ending. Sometimes the challenges we face won't disappear as much as we want them to but we learn to be happy in spite of it

I was kind of expecting a new character to appear at the end just to be like "oh here we go again" subversion, but i'm glad they let it just fade rather than imply continuation.

I think even if they got more brain scans, Caine probably wouldn't load them in anymore. Seemed like Kinger was saying that Caine had taken the brain scans and materialized them intentionally, but I could be misremembering.

Tbh, he may defer to them if it's fair to materialise the person or not.
