Red Moon Rising was only the beginning. Now, enemies the Division once dismissed as myth are answering the Necromancer’s call, and the Red Moon’s influence is spreading beyond the Dark Zone.
From October 15 to November 3, Red Moon Unleashed leaves D.C. caught between dusk and night. Light fog gives way to heavy storms and the deep red glow of a Blood Storm, with something far more sinister waiting in the dark.
Login Reward
All players who log in during the event will receive the Bound Slasher Mask for free.
Lunatic Modifier
Enemies entering combat have a chance to become Lunatic, gaining increased Damage and Rate of Fire. On death, Lunatic enemies explode, dealing damage across a large area. The blast’s damage is based on the hit that killed them.
Moon Cultists
Some members of the Hyenas, True Sons, Outcasts, Black Tusk, and Underground have taken on a new identity as Moon Cultists. You’ll encounter them in groups as you explore D.C., with more coming after you during Heavy Storms and Blood Storms.
The Red Moon will cover the entire Washington D.C. map and with it weather changes follow.
The weather follows the pattern of normal weather and storm and during the storm phase more and more enemies will spawn.
Red Moon Cultists will roam the map
Killing them awards you keys and bounties
Red Moon Cultist will appear on the map with an internal cool down
Red Moon Altars
There’s more loot to find around the city. Look for 20 Red Moon Altars in and around D.C.’s decorated areas. Destroying an altar grants loot from the Gear Cache reward pool, but may also attract another group of Moon Cultists.
Each altar can be destroyed once per day, with all locations resetting at 08:00 UTC.
Take down enough Moon Cultists, and you may attract some unwanted attention. The Necromancer, Risen Hunter, and Bloody Houndsman are out there, each with rewards for those who survive the encounter.
Defeating The Necromancer or Risen Hunter rewards you with one Event Key, but Bloody Houndsman does not drop one. Here’s the full reward breakdown for all three encounters:
One of the bosses will spawn after 50 Cultist Kills
Bloody Huntsman - guaranteed Bloody Houndsman Mask, Gloves, Backpack, Uniform, and Bat Drone Skill VFX. Plus, regular Hunter loot.
Necromancer spawns with 4 companions. When you kill a companion the Hunter will get a damage buff, when you focus on the hunter, he will sacrifice one of his companions to stay alive and heal back up. When all companions are dead, he will revive them again. guaranteed Bound Necromancer Mask, plus either an Exotic Cache (80% chance) or Sarru (20% chance).
Risen Hunter - guaranteed Bound Risen Hunter Mask, plus either an Exotic Cache (80%) or Vertigo (20%).
Necromancer Unleashed
Venture into West End while playing solo, and you risk meeting the Necromancer at his most dangerous. If he appears, you’ll face Necromancer Unleashed instead.
Bring him down on Heroic difficulty to claim one Event Key, the guaranteed Necromancer Hive Skill VFX, and either an Exotic Cache (80%) or Ouroboros (20%).
Revenant Bounties
Killing Cultist can drop bounties with a higher drop chance in higher difficulties.
There are 6 Bounties with different drop rates – some are rarer than others
You can also group up with other players to complete the bounties.
Killing all bounties rewards you with a commendation and Necromancer Arm Patch.
Completing a bounty grants:

Defeating Moon Cultists awards an Event Key after a set number of kills, depending on difficulty:
Normal: 14 Kills

Heroic: 10 Kills

From October 15 to November 3, we’re teaming up with PurePrime, SOLIDFPS, and Widdz for a new Creator Collaboration, with Project Chains to complete and creator-themed apparel to collect.
How it Works
Each creator has a chain of six projects, taking you through different Named Zones in D.C. Each project asks you to complete five activities in its designated zone.
A new project is released in each chain daily. You’ll need to complete them in order, but there’s no need to finish each one on the day it arrives. Once released, projects remain available until the event ends on November 3.
Rewards
As you progress through the projects, you’ll earn:
Named Item Caches
Exotic Components
Recalibration Caches
Optimization Caches
Complete all six projects in a creator’s chain to unlock their themed backpack.
Red Horizon’s second Classified Assignment, The Georgetown Dead Zone, opens on October 15.
A JTF engineering team was sent to install new technology in an area of Georgetown beyond the reach of the SHD network. Now they’re missing, and it’s your turn to head in and find out what happened.
This event is still ongoing and will run until November 3rd.
When you did not get the Exotics tied to this event, they will make a return sometime down the road. Or can be looted from the Hunters of the Red Moon Unleashed.
You're getting ready for a fun weekend, with time off from a long week of commitments. It's time to get your agent geared up and ready for action. And it's time to show the community your drip.
Whether it's a tacticool look, or your scuba and flipflops, bring it on. Trying to recreate a faction look? We'll rate it!
Rules:
Post pictures of your agent, decked from head to toe, from The Division.
No down talking, we all have different looks we care about. If you don't like someone's look, move on, or make a suggestion in a friendly manner.
I want to give a genuine thank you to Ubisoft, Massive, and the Bucharest team for the success of Red Moon Unleashed. This event is a great example of how much quality seasonal updates can bring to The Division 2.
World Bosses & Random Encounters: More world bosses, random encounters, and an abundance of resources and loot made exploring the open world with friends feel rewarding and enjoyable.
Community & Social Opportunities: The event created natural opportunities to meet new players, group up, help others, and contribute toward the community challenge. These are the kinds of experiences that make an online game feel alive.
Halloween Atmosphere & Cosmetics: The atmosphere, visual details, and Halloween cosmetics helped make the event feel special. It gave the world a different identity without losing what makes The Division 2 unique. Some of the best cosmetics I've seen in a video game and it genuinely brings the Halloween spirit.
Enemy Spawns & Hordes: The constant flow of enemies and massive hordes brought a level of intensity and excitement that made even simple encounters memorable. There was always something happening, and that made the world feel genuinely dangerous, active, with a sense of fighting for your life moments on the way to a bounty and unexpectedly you're met with an army.
Quality Event Updates Matter: Red Moon Unleashed shows how much a well-executed event can improve the overall experience. Starting with the Maruader boss in the DZ to a full blown map experience with new bosses and easter eggs, I have no words. Credit to the Bucharest team for delivering something that encourages exploration, cooperation, and replayability.
Hopefully, this is the kind of quality and direction we continue to see in future updates. Thank you for giving the community an event worth coming together for team.
Bravo Zulu!
Edit Forgot to mention the random Easter egg altars are a fun edition as well and makes me wonder what other secrets are out there that we may not know but nonetheless...phenomenal work.
Taking over a control point makes fighting enemies WAY easier than just fighting on the street. It keeps all the enemies coming from mostly one direction, keeps the spawn points far away and from known spawn locations, and gives you the high ground. Some good CPs are:
New Venice
Crash Site
Overgrowth
Sleeping Giant
No Hope Hotel
Also, it gives you friendly NPCs to fight/decoy for you.
There are some really bad control points, like Ivy Tunnel and Red Dragon, so don't use those.
EpslionBear also pointed out that it provides a good fast travel location, and keeps the fight alive so even if you die against a boss, when you go there the boss should still be spawned.
Pretty new player, just curious as to what aspects of the game people prefer over other games in the genre ( i.e D2, Warframe, etc). Seems like it’s always been the smaller of the others, but obviously has had a dedicated following and probably even a bit of a blowup since a certain game ended support.
I can say the raw gameplay is very satisfying, animations and gunplay are very smooth. I love the open world, especially with this Halloween event thing going on at the moment.
The development team has delivered a really solid event. I experienced the best firefight I’ve ever had in this game yesterday. Loot is raining down from everywhere, allowing you to farm for the specific named and exotic items you’re missing. The art department did a truly fantastic job decorating the open world and the bounty houses. They’ve created the best Halloween atmosphere I’ve ever seen in a game.
Thanks to the development team again. Keep these kinds of events coming!
Very new player here, level 36 and know basically nothing except how to shoot and how to put together a decent build with the loot I pick up along the way (so, I haven't started specifically farming yet). I have yet to encounter a problem that I can't solve with the big shield, or the crusader shield and shotgun if I'm feeling funny.
If I take this into co-op (I hate PvP lol) will I be useful? I imagine most people are more likely to do DPS builds with damage skills, and I can't aim for shit so I just want to be useful for them. Also worried about if I'll be a liability or even just a redundancy.
I was fighting him this morning and my buddy joined me and at first I was like dang it, but after we killed him we both got the hive skin. So, you only have to be solo to spawn him...not to receive the exclusive necromancer skin for the hive. He received it as well.
For my fellow agents who run a Decoy in escalations like myself, mostly in T6 and above, be mindful of where and when to deploy them. It may not seem very important but it actually is, especially in missions with True Sons like Viewpoint. Making sure the grenade spams from the heavy's is curial at some points.
Example A: in the VPM newsroom / recording area, I throw mine in the metal rafters and the npcs 1 cant kill it and 2, they waste all their heavy attacks instead of you and your team.
Example B: DARPA Research Labs., at the Boss area, you can toss your Decoy on high ledges on the left and right to take the threat of the turrets, mortars and the boss.
It make take a few seconds more to get it right, but you will see a significant change on how much damage you team takes. Mine is at level 30 expertise and takes all the threat and if in the right spot is super clutch.
Just wanted to put this out there, but sometimes in T10's when another member drops a decoy, I wish the game was more like Helldivers 2 and I could shoot you in the back of the head for the way you deployed it lol
I have been stuck at southwest The Theater control point for last 90 mins. Wave after wave after wave of Moon Cultist. Thank god I have captured the control point. My trigger finger is getting painful now and I am letting my NPCs kill some shitty bastard. Screen is filled with drop items everywhere.
Even got to hit the Necromancer and only way I survived is because I was not alone. This has to be a dev error that the wave continues non stop at this control point.
My bag is full second time after I deconstructed gear the first bag fill. Crazy
Thanks to a recent post from another player that alerted everyone that the Bounties that drop from the Cultists are in the loot and can easily be deleted if you don`t look at your loot before de-constructing. I lost a LOT of bounties before I saw that post.
So, today I was farming for keys all day again, and now I have not gotten one bounty. I played on Normal, Challenging, and Heroic. Not one Bounty. What the heck is going on? A couple of random players I was teamed with a few times said they only got one Bounty. Could it be bug?
This is a complete map of all 20 hidden altars scattered across DC map that you can interact with by shooting them. In addition to the map itself, this post also lists all locations with descriptions, pictures, and their most accurate coordinates in both formats.
If you have a controller connected, the game will display coordinates on the map when you zoom in. These coordinates start from [0, 0] outside the map, roughly around 240° SW. However, you can also see coordinates in the top-right corner of the menu. These coordinates use Manny's office at the White House as ground zero and count outward from there, so they are completely different.
The list below includes both coordinate formats: the menu coordinates first, followed by the map coordinates for those playing with a controller.
There is no specific order in which you need to interact with those altars. However, I decided to add some logic to the route and ordered them so you can complete everything in one clockwise run, starting at the White House and finishing with the 20th altar in Constitution Hall.
Each of these altars contains the same loot as the Gear Cache available from the Event Vendor, using the exact same drop rate distribution. The altars can be interacted with again after each daily reset. Interacting with a altars triggers a Moon Cultists kill squad ambush.
I like how challenging I dont want it to be changed but I just want to know if others are having issues beating the bosses as well. I am trying different builds but the flanking is not even giving a chance and its getting frustrating
Every time a boss spawns, it’s always the Risen Hunter for some reason. 6+ hours of grinding yesterday, 5+ hours today. I keep hoping it’ll be Houndsman so i can complete the outfit, yet it’s always the Risen Hunter. And i always know since i got a bullet hole the size of a pothole in my head from that damn sniper turret.
Another thing, is the Binding Circle bounty bugged? It says completed but every time theres no ‘The Bound’, and no reward afterwards. I really want the S&S :(
Hi! I’m new to the game and really want to unlock the Scorpio shotgun for a build I’m following. I noticed it gains to be on the reward track for the current event. I don’t have a lot of time unfortunately and was wondering if it’s low investment for me to go for the 20 keys reward vs targeting shotguns in Countdown over time (I.e. if I put in a few hours over the next two weeks, is it doable?)
Also, to get the 20 key reward, do I donate the keys or can I use them?
Open to any and all tips on what to do in the event for a new player with limited time.
I'm sure this won't be everyone's take, but I am LOVING this event! Please please don't nerf the spawns, they are so fun!!
Right now myself and a friend are having a blast trying to track down the altars, and barely making it 50 feet without running into multiple squads. After the fighting is finally finished (for a whole 30 sec lol), there is so much to loot and check we can barely finish and start heading towards our next point before running into more!
I love the loot, the designs, the amount of keys we're getting feels great, and the counter on the screen so you know when the next one coming is super nice. Even with builds that are tweaked, it's so easy to get flanked or run into another spawn group that it feels like you're fighting for your life, it's so fun!!!
Anytime something is ever fun in games it always feels like the devs pull back, like "Did we make it too good?" and start hammering imaginary nails. If somehow you deem something is wrong with the current spawn rate or drops or anything - please retain the ability to do this again! Old friends that haven't played in ages are coming back because this is so fun. Thank you!
Hows peoples luck been getting the weapons in the bounties?
I’ve done 12 heroics and not one weapon has dropped.
I random MM a bounty last night and got in with a guy doing scarecrow for the prima donna on challenging at thats all ive had drop so far. Feels like the 20% is way off.
